Abstract

Receptive language ability in early childhood is an important indicator of language development, influenced by various factors. However, the understanding of the factors that contribute most significantly to receptive language remains limited, warranting further investigation. This study aims to confirm the factors affecting receptive language and identify the most significant contributors to children's receptive language development. This research employs a quantitative method with an ex post facto design. The sample consists of 87 children from five kindergartens. Data were collected using a 1-5 Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive analysis and SEM-PLS, including CFA, t-test values, p-values, and bootstrapping, using SPSS 25.0 and SmartPLS software. The results of the study indicate that the intelligence construct has a significant effect on receptive language, contributing 62.8% (t = 20.543 > 1.9; p-value = 0.00 < 0.05). The social and cultural environment construct has a significant impact on receptive language, contributing 22.5% (t = 6.707 > 1.9; p-value = 0.00 < 0.05). The family environment construct also significantly influences receptive language, contributing 25.3% (t = 6.991 > 1.9; p-value = 0.00 < 0.05). The most influential factor on receptive language is intelligence, with the highest contribution of 62.8%. The conclusion of this study is that intelligence is the primary factor influencing children's receptive language ability, followed by the social and cultural environment and the family environment.

Abstract

Play is a fundamental early childhood activity in supporting development in physical, cognitive, language, social-emotional and spiritual aspects. This article discusses the role of educators and parents in supporting children's motivation to play in supporting optimal early childhood development. This research uses the literature review method to analyze various data sources from relevant scientific journals. Based on the findings, PAUD educators have an important role in designing learning strategies that integrate the principle of “playing while learning”, using innovative learning methods, such as storytelling methods and traditional games. In addition, the role of parents as educators, motivators and facilitators at home greatly supports children's motivation to play. Collaboration between PAUD educators and parents is a major factor in creating a conducive learning environment and stimulating children's enthusiasm for learning. The development of digital technology also offers opportunities for the use of educational games as an interesting learning medium, although their use needs to be accompanied by parents to prevent negative impacts. Overall, children's motivation to play can be strengthened through the active role of educators and parents, and good collaboration between the two. This is very important to support optimal early childhood development, both in the school and family environment.

Abstract

The moral development of early childhood is crucial for shaping their character and social interaction. This study examines the efficacy of the Project Approach in fostering moral development in young children within early childhood education settings.  The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative scoring of moral development with qualitative analysis of the children's responses. Using a five-point scoring rubric, the researchers assessed the moral reasoning abilities of the child participants through observations. The findings indicate that a majority of the children exhibit notable progress in their moral development, predominantly clustering within the "Developing" category, suggesting a shift towards more nuanced moral reasoning. The Project Approach's emphasis on real-world social interaction, critical thinking, and empathy cultivation appears to positively influence children's moral development. The results also highlight the importance of educational approaches that prioritize the cultivation of both cognitive and emotional aspects of morality. The study's conclusion is that the Project Approach significantly supports the development of more mature moral principles in students, facilitating children's transition to higher stages of moral development and fostering the foundations of healthy and sustainable morality. This result contributed to a more comprehensive understanding of how best to support children's moral growth.

Abstract

This quantitative study employs an ex post facto design to investigate the predictive relationship between tolerance and self-regulation in early childhood (N = 99; ages 4–6 years). Participants were purposively sampled from Tabir District, Indonesia, to represent the key socioeconomic and cultural characteristics of the region. Validated instruments measuring tolerance (α=0.793) and self-regulation (α=0.799) demonstrated robust psychometric properties through content validity testing and Cronbach’s Alpha reliability analysis. Linear regression analysis (SPSS v.28) revealed tolerance as a statistically significant predictor of self-regulation (β = 0.398, p < 0.001, 95% CI [0.291, 0.505]), accounting for 15.8% of the variance (R² = 0.158). Crucially, we identify a novel mechanistic pathway: tolerance not only enhances behavioral regulation but also significantly contributes to social-emotional competencies within learning contexts (b = 0.427, SE = 0.098, p < 0.001). These findings advance the Social Learning Theory framework by demonstrating how prosocial dispositions scaffold regulatory development. We propose empirically testable models for tolerance-based interventions to optimize early childhood developmental trajectories.

Abstract

Emotional regulation is one of the essential aspects of early childhood social-emotional development that plays a significant role in preparing children to face social and academic challenges. However, understanding of children’s ability to recognize, manage, and express their emotions remains limited, thus further research is needed to provide a more in-depth picture of emotional regulation levels in early childhood. The aim of this study is to explore the emotional regulation level of children aged 5–6 years. This study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive survey method. Data were collected using a questionnaire with a Likert scale. The questionnaire consisted of 11 items and had undergone expert testing using Lawshe’s content validity as well as empirical testing using SPSS 25 for Windows. The reliability test in this study used the Cronbach’s Alpha technique, which yielded a result of 0.947, indicating high reliability. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis techniques. The results showed that most children aged 5–6 years were in the excellent category (50.54%), although some children were in the quite capable category (1.88%) and required more attention to further develop their emotional regulation. Thus, it can be concluded that, in general, early childhood children are capable of managing their emotions well in various situations. The implication of this study is the importance of the roles of parents, teachers, and policymakers in creating environments that support the development of emotional regulation in children from an early age.

Abstract

This research highlights the urgency of enhancing Kindergarten teachers' readiness in facing educational transformation through the Merdeka Curriculum. The study focuses on analysing the effect of: (1) teachers' self-awareness, (2) teachers' self-management, and (3) the simultaneous influence of both variables on readiness to implement the curriculum. Employing a quantitative ex post facto approach, the research involved 205 Kindergarten teachers across 17 sub-districts in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. Sampling was determined based on the Krejcie & Morgan Table using probability and cluster random techniques. Data were collected through questionnaires and analysed with multiple linear regression. The results indicate that self-awareness and self-management, both individually and jointly, significantly influence teachers' readiness for curriculum implementation. These findings confirm that the development of personal capacities is a crucial foundation for effective educational change. The contribution of this study lies in providing empirical evidence that strengthening self-awareness and self-management is not only beneficial for individual teacher growth but also serves as a strategic key in supporting the broader success of early childhood learning transformation under the Merdeka Curriculum.
