Abstract

A study on the intervention of human factors engineering (known as ergonomics) on sustainable living based on biopsychological needs was conducted, taking samples of small housing inhabitants. In total, 90 participants were involved. Those who were living in small housings have a significant challenge of how to live comfortably given very limited space. The measurement of the quality of human life through WHOQOL-BREF (World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF) and ergonomics-based usability were used to describe the current human well-being satisfaction, to propose the modified physical facilities, and to validate the proposed design and improvement. The findings showed that all implemented improvements have supported the inhabitant’s quality of life.

Abstract

Existing knowledge indicates that responsive parenting significantly influences the quality of friendships among adolescents. However, previous research has not fully elucidated the dynamics within the relationship between responsive parenting and friendship quality. This study seeks to investigate the role of interpersonal communication skills as a mediator in relationships between responsive parenting and friendship quality. It involved 150 respondents aged 12-20 years (Mage = 16.87; SD = 2.51), comprising 50 early adolescents, 50 middle adolescents, and 50 late adolescents. Measurement of the three variables utilized scales: the Parental Responsiveness Scale subscale, the Interpersonal Communication Scale, and the McGill Friendship Questionnaires-Friend's Functions. Hypothesis testing using mediation analysis reveals that interpersonal communication skills mediate the relationship between father/mother's responsive parenting and friendship quality. These findings suggest that positive interactions between parents and adolescents through responsive parenting serve as models for adolescents in their peer relationships by enhancing interpersonal communication skills. The limitations and directions for further research are discussed.

Abstract

Adolescence, marked by significant changes, often leads to emotional tension and instability associated with alexithymia. This study aimed to validate the Indonesian version of the Adolescent Alexithymia Scale, hypothesizing that its internal structure was unidimensional. Participants included 70 adolescents aged 13 to 18 years (M_age = 16.44; SD = 1.44). Data were collected using the Indonesian version of the Adolescent Alexithymia Scale, consisting of 24 items representing the four alexithymia indicators. The results revealed that the scale has a unidimensional internal structure, with 11 valid items, and sufficient validity and reliability coefficients. These items collectively represent the four main characteristics of alexithymia. The most dominant indicator is the difficulty in identifying and distinguishing between feelings and emotional bodily sensations. This research implies that this scale needs to be tested on different populations and in different contexts.

Abstract

Assertive behavior plays a crucial role for bullying victims in authentically expressing themselves and maintaining self-respect, while a positive school climate fosters identity development and reduces bullying. This study aims to examine the relationships between self-esteem, school climate, and assertive behavior in adolescents. The research employs a systematic literature review with a scoping review approach based on the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) protocol. Sources include journal articles and books published within the last ten years, retrieved from databases such as Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Wiley Online Library. Analysis of 30 sources reveals that self-esteem influences assertive behavior, while a research gap exists regarding the correlation between school climate and assertive behavior in adolescents. This study holds significance for adolescents and schools in reducing bullying by emphasizing the role of both personal and contextual factors.

Abstract

“Sedekah bumi” known as earth alms is a traditional Javanese ceremony to express their gratitude to God Almighty. This tradition is linked to the relationship between humans and nature as studied within the ecocentrism paradigm. This study aims to explore the psychological construct of gratitude within the ecocentrism paradigm in “Sedekah Bumi” tradition as local wisdom. The methods used weare interviews and literature reviews. The interviewed participants were obtained using a purposive sampling method, and a narrative literature review was employed. . The results show that there are three themes from the interviews (Earth Almsgiving as a tradition, implementing the Earth Almsgiving Tradition, and the meaning of gratitude in the Earth Almsgiving Tradition). Meanwhile, the results of the literature review reveal three main meanings: social gratitude, gratitude to God, and human concern for the environment)). that the Javanese Coastal Community carried out the Earth Alms Tradition as a form of gratitude for the harvest that shows how humans not only receive the produce of the land but also care for it by working together to clean the environment. This concept is in line with the ecocentrism paradigm which describes all biotic and abiotic creatures as important because they can help human survival. Furthermore, with the escalating environmental crisis, these locally rooted traditions based on wisdom and eco-centrism can serve as alternatives in maintaining harmony between humans and nature.

Abstract

“Cheng Beng” is an annual tradition carried out by ethnic Chinese people in Indonesia to honor their ancestors by visiting cemeteries to clean the graves and make offerings. This research explores the psychological constructs related to the Cheng Beng ceremony using a qualitative method with a narrative literature study approach. The data were collected through interviews and literature review, with subjects selected using purposive sampling. Three themes emerged from the interviews: the implementation of the Cheng Beng tradition, its meaning, and changes in its implementation of Cheng Beng. The literature review revealed the themes of respecting ancestors, strengthening family bonds, and enhancing relationships with other ethnic groups. The psychological constructs explored in this research are spirituality, emotional well-being, and social identity. Participating in the Cheng Beng tradition fosters a spiritual connection with ancestors, enhances emotional well-being by helping individuals cope with feelings of loss, connects to the family who have died. Participating in this ceremony strengthens one’s connection to Chinese culture and family history, which in turn strengthens their social identity as members of the Chinese community.

Abstract

The results of the fraud survey in Indonesia in 2019 show that out of 239 cases of fraud found, 167 cases (69.9%) were related to corruption. Three conditions trigger fraud: pressure, opportunity, and rationalization. Fraud has a harmful impact, whether financial or non-financial, and therefore prevention efforts are needed such as implementating a whistleblowing system. Cultural factors significantly impact the effectiveness of such systems. This study explores the "ewuh pakewuh" culture through the lens of the theory of planned behavior (TPB). When reviewing the three determinants in the TPB, namely attitude toward the behavior, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, the "ewuh pakewuh" culture influences the intention of fraud behavior and the whistleblowing system. Literature studies reveal that in cultures with high "ewuh pakewuh" presence, fraud intention is high, and whistleblowing effectiveness is low. Although "ewuh pakewuh" fosters harmony and reduces conflict, courage is needed to report illegal actions for organizational sustainability. Research on "ewuh pakewuh" is more common in government settings, as it is believed to be more prevalent in government institutions than in egalitarian corporate organizations. Further research is necessary to understand this phenomenon and to evaluate how private companies in Indonesia are affected by the "ewuh pakewuh" culture and its impact on their performance.
