Abstract

By using the ergonomic concept, the physical environment of a residence’s inhabitant, namely indoor environmental quality (IEQ), becomes one of the determinants of its inhabitant’s psychological state. However, there are still limited previous studies examining the IEQ and its elements such as thermal comfort, acoustic comfort, indoor air quality, and visual comfort in small housing settings and its role on the psychological condition of its occupants, namely psychological well-being (PWB). However, there are still limited previous studies examining the IEQ in small housing settings and its role on PWB of its inhabitants. This study aimed to determine and explain the role of IEQ and its aspects on PWB of small housing inhabitants. This quantitative survey research used questionnaire as the main data collection and supported by interviews and observations. The participants of this study were 90 residents of the flat, representing the occupants of the unit, which were selected by random sampling technique from the 112 occupied units. Simple regression analysis was used to test the research hypothesis. The results showed that the quality of the environment in the dwelling had a significant positive role on PWB of the small house inhabitants (R = 0.272; R2 = 0.074; p <0.05) by 7.4%. Among the four aspects of EIQ, there were two aspects that played a significant role on PWB, namely air quality and temperature. This study also revealed that majority of the participants had PWB in the high category, and IEQ in the medium category. Moreover, the ability of residents to adapt and change the environment were considered as psychological factors that influence the small housing inhabitant’s interaction toward indoor physical environment.

Abstract

Abstract

The Procrastination at Work Scale (PAWS) is an instrument that can be used to measure the level of procrastination that occurs in employees. Procrastination can make employees slow in completing assigned tasks. This research aims to obtain a standardized PAWS to be used in Indonesia. PAWS consists of two dimensions, namely soldiering and cyberslacking, and has a total of 12 items. PAWS was analyzed using the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) method. The analysis results found that PAWS is an instrument with good validity and reliability values. The items contained in it can also measure the workplace procrastination level. However, PAWS is suggested to be a unidimensional instrument.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic can have a negative impact on the psychological condition of the basketball athlete community from this service activity. The purpose of the service program in the form of psychoeducation to the basketball athlete community is to increase self-esteem and coping self-efficacy. Coping self-efficacy describes a person's ability to perform certain behaviors successfully with the expected results. Self-esteem is a global evaluation of an individual's thoughts and feelings, and evaluations can be positive or negative. The partner groups in this training are four students who are members of the women's basketball group in Samarinda, with an age range of 15-17 years. The training materials are tailored to the needs of the partner community which is explored through needs analysis. The training is carried out online via Zoom in small groups of 4 people. Measurement of the process and results of service activities is carried out through questionnaires, observations, and online interviews. The results of the service showed an increase in self-esteem scores and coping self-efficacy in the partner group. From this training, service partners gain a new and more positive understanding of coping self-efficacy, self-esteem, and its aspects. Partner groups are able to apply the material that has been given in real life as basketball athletes.

Abstract

A series of acts of terrorism involving women in various parts of the world, including in Indonesia, allegedly carried out by radical Muslim groups, has strengthened stereotypes and created prejudice against Muslim women who wear the veil. This study aims to explain the role of right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) and intergroup anxiety as antecedents of prejudice against veiled Muslim women. Using a cross-sectional survey design, the study sample (N= 403), domiciled in the city of Surabaya, Indonesia, was selected by accidental sampling. RWA, intergroup anxiety, and prejudice against veiled Muslim women were measured using a questionnaire, and the research hypotheses was analyzed by multiple linear regression. The results show that RWA and intergroup anxiety play a significant role in explaining prejudice against veiled Muslim women (R = .826; R2 = .682; F = 428.68; p < .01), with the relative contributions of RWA and intergroup anxiety being 34% and 66% respectively. The theoretical implication of the research is that RWA and intergroup anxiety act as antecedents of prejudice against veiled Muslim women.

Abstract

Abstract— Stereo types toward persons with disability have resulted in many people having prejudice about persons with disability and committing discriminatory behavior. This negative attitude and behavior toward persons with disability may be due to a lack of empathy. This study aims to determine the relationship between empathy and student prejudice toward persons with disabilities. The research subjects were 167 students with an age range of 18-25 years in the city of Surabaya. Interpersonal reactivity index (IRI) and attitude to disability scale (ADS) were used to measure empathy and prejudice against persons with disabilities. The hypothesis was tested using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results showed that empathy negatively correlated with prejudice (r = -0.286, p < 0.001), which revealed that the higher the empathy, the lower the prejudice toward persons with disabilities. In addition, it was found that two of the empathy aspects, namely fantasy and personal distress, were not correlated with prejudice. Mean while, the other aspects were perspective taking and empathic concern had a negative correlation with prejudice. The implications of this research’s results were discussed. Keywords: empathy, prejudice toward people with disability, college student Abstrak— Stereotip terhadap penyandang disabilitas mengakibatkan banyak masyarakat yang berprasangka buruk terhadap penyandang disabilitas hingga melakukan perilaku diskriminasi. Abstract

This systematic review investigates the effectiveness of online mindfulness-based interventions in addressing burnout and related psychological factors among resident physicians and medical students. The investigation adhered to the guidelines outlined in Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA). A comprehensive literature search was conducted across integrated databases, namely Google Scholar, PubMed, SagePub, and Springer using pertinent keywords. Nine articles met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were included in the analysis. The results revealed that online mindfulness-based interventions show promising results in alleviating burnout among healthcare professionals and medical students. However, several factors must be considered, and a follow-up measurement is required to maintain its effectiveness. Abstract

Modernization and individualistic culture have shifted the values and expectations of the younger generation regarding marriage, leading to delays or decisions not to marry. However, in Indonesia, many single individuals still face social pressure due to societal stigma, as well as religious and cultural values. This pressure can negatively impact the well-being or flourishing of single individuals. This study aims to examine the relationship between sense of community and emotion regulation (cognitive and expressive suppressions) with flourishing among single individuals, using a correlational quantitative method with 105 respondents (Mage = 34.90; SD = 5.84 years) from the Catholic Singles Community “J”. A purposive sampling technique was employed to select the sample. The results of multiple correlation indicated that sense of community and emotion regulation together significantly positively correlate with flourishing (R = 0.293, R2 = 0.086, p < 0.05. Nevertheless, partial correlation analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between the sense of community and flourishing (p<0.05), but a non-significant correlation between emotion regulation (both cognitive and expressive suppression) and flourishing (p>0.05). Although emotion regulation did not directly correlate with flourishing, emotion regulation (cognitive and expressive suppression) were significantly positively correlated with most aspects of sense of community. The implications of this research suggest that enhancing the sense of community plays a crucial role in achieving flourishing among members of a community. Sense of community can be further strengthened when supported by emotion regulation skills within the community context.

Abstract

Existing knowledge indicates that responsive parenting significantly influences the quality of friendships among adolescents. However, previous research has not fully elucidated the dynamics within the relationship between responsive parenting and friendship quality. This study seeks to investigate the role of interpersonal communication skills as a mediator in relationships between responsive parenting and friendship quality. It involved 150 respondents aged 12-20 years (Mage = 16.87; SD = 2.51), comprising 50 early adolescents, 50 middle adolescents, and 50 late adolescents. Measurement of the three variables utilized scales: the Parental Responsiveness Scale subscale, the Interpersonal Communication Scale, and the McGill Friendship Questionnaires-Friend's Functions. Hypothesis testing using mediation analysis reveals that interpersonal communication skills mediate the relationship between father/mother's responsive parenting and friendship quality. These findings suggest that positive interactions between parents and adolescents through responsive parenting serve as models for adolescents in their peer relationships by enhancing interpersonal communication skills. The limitations and directions for further research are discussed.

Abstract

Adolescence, marked by significant changes, often leads to emotional tension and instability associated with alexithymia. This study aimed to validate the Indonesian version of the Adolescent Alexithymia Scale, hypothesizing that its internal structure was unidimensional. Participants included 70 adolescents aged 13 to 18 years (M_age = 16.44; SD = 1.44). Data were collected using the Indonesian version of the Adolescent Alexithymia Scale, consisting of 24 items representing the four alexithymia indicators. The results revealed that the scale has a unidimensional internal structure, with 11 valid items, and sufficient validity and reliability coefficients. These items collectively represent the four main characteristics of alexithymia. The most dominant indicator is the difficulty in identifying and distinguishing between feelings and emotional bodily sensations. This research implies that this scale needs to be tested on different populations and in different contexts.
