Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Covid-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. On March 11 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared Covid-19 a pandemic. In Indonesia, the first positive case was detected on March 2 2020. Covid-19 can cause several symptoms in infected individuals such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, loss of sense of smell and taste, headaches, etc. One of the psychological impacts caused by the Covid-19 pandemic is psychological distress. Psychological distress is an individual's emotional state when facing something that is perceived as threatening, which is characterized by depression and anxiety.Purpose: To determine the effect of fear of Covid-19 and personality traits on psychological distress during the Covid-19 pandemic.Method: Quantitative cross-sectional survey using a questionnaire as a means of collecting data. Respondents were obtained using convenience sampling, which is a non-probability sampling method that takes respondents who are easy to access. Respondent criteria are individuals who are at least 18 years old and express consent through informed consent. The research was conducted on 8 November - 2 December 2021 using Google forms which were distributed via various social media with 337 respondents. Results: The average age of respondents in the study was 27.37 years with an SD value = 7.787, most of the respondents were in the 18-30 year age range, 264 people (78.3%). Fear of Covid-19 and neuroticism have a unidirectional influence on psychological distress, which means that the higher the fear of Covid-19 and the more dominant the individual's neuroticism personality, the higher the psychological distress felt during the Covid-19 pandemic. On the other hand, the agreeableness dimension has an inverse effect, so that the more dominant the individual's agreeable personality, the lower the psychological distress felt. Conclusion: Fear of Covid-19, personality trait agreeableness, and personality trait neuroticism are factors that can predict individual psychological distress during the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the personality traits extraversion, conscientiousness, and openness do not have a significant influence on psychological distress during the pandemic. Apart from that, demographic factors such as age, who the individual lives with, monthly income, and history of comorbidities can cause differences in levels of psychological distress. Pada tanggal 11 Maret 2020, World Health Organization (WHO) resmi menetapkan Covid-19 sebagai sebuah pandemi.

Abstract

Students, especially in the final year, often encounter various sources of stress and increasingly high academic demands, which have the potential to cause academic anxiety. This study aimed to determine the effect of perceived social support on academic anxiety through self-efficacy as a mediator. Employing a cross-sectional quantitative research design, this study involved a sample of 80 final-year undergraduate students, comprising 49 females and 31 males. Data were collected via an online questionnaire encompassing three scales: General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (ASES), and The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). The mediation analysis results revealed that academic self-efficacy acts as a full mediator in the relationship between perceptions of social support and student anxiety. These findings highlight the potential effectiveness of interventions to bolster students' self-efficacy to mitigate the adverse effects of academic-related stressors, ultimately enhancing their overall well-being and academic performance.

Abstract

The post-COVID-19 pandemic has had various impacts on human life, including on educational institutions and sophomore students. One of the negative consequences has been an increase in perceived stress, which has necessitated the development of coping strategies. Resilience is believed to play a significant role in influencing the quality of these coping strategies. This research aims to examine the moderating influence of resilience on coping strategies for perceived stress among sophomore students in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era. Participants included students in their third to sixth semesters, selected through snowball sampling. Data were collected via an online questionnaire encompassing three scales: Brief COPE, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and Brief Resilient Coping Scale (BRCS). Data analysis involved descriptive analysis and moderated regression analysis. The study concludes that resilience significantly moderates the relationship between coping strategies and perceived stress (t = -10.722, p < 0.05). The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are further discussed.

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Petrokimia Gresik Volleyball Club’s female athletes have to do training from home (TFH). Unfortunately, this prolonged TFH has caused the athletes to experience a decrease in motivation and training goals. This community service aimed to increase the athletes’ achievement motivation through a Virtual Goal Setting Training (VGST). The methods used to facilitate the partners’ skill formation in designing SMART goal-setting were lecturing, coaching, individual, and group discussion. The achievement motivation was measured by Achievement Motivation Scale for Specialists of the Sport for All (AMSSSA) as well as by observation and interviews. The results revealed that VGST could increase not only the athlete’s skill in designing SMART goal setting but also their motivation to engage in the Training from Home (TFH) Program individually and in a group. Therefore, a well-structured VGST’s design can be an alternative to increase the athlete’s achievement motivation during the Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract

Abstract

Interreligious conflicts can change the state system regarding religious tolerance and the emergence of terrorist behavior. In Surabaya, terrorism incidents have occurred in three Christian churches, and the alleged perpetrators are the Islamic fundamentalist group JAD. These incidents have fueled feelings of threat and fear of death, which can lead to prejudice. This research aimed to determine the role of social dominance orientation and interreligious empathy as predictors of prejudice toward Islamic fundamentalists. It used a quantitative design with a sample of 400 Christian students aged 17-24 in Surabaya. Furthermore, SDO-7, BES-A, and the Prejudice toward Islamic Fundamentalists Scales were adopted. The results showed that social dominance orientation and interreligious empathy predicted the prejudice toward Islamic fundamentalists (R=0.056; R2=0,061; F(2, 378)=12.876; p<0.001) using multiple linear regression tests. Social dominance orientation did not significantly predict prejudice (t= -0.91426; p=0.361), unlike interreligious empathy (t=4.365; p<0.001). Therefore, intergroup relations need to consider interreligious empathy in reducing prejudice.

Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the McMaster Family Assessment Device subscale General Functioning (GF-12), an assessment tool with 12 indicators of family educational function in high school present in the Indonesian form. A purposive non-random sampling method was employed on 103 adolescent students, aged 16-18 years, consisting of 75 females and 27 males currently in high school. The results showed that the questionnaire was valid and reliable. The GF-12 subscale items showed r value of 0.5-0.8 compared to the table index of 0.3 using the pearson correlation. The Cronbach's alpha value for the GF-12 subscale items was 0.8. In light of these results, the GF-12 questionnaire of the Indonesian version is a valid instrument for assessing family function. This showed that the level of family functioning in adolescents can be assessed more accurately. The results are recommended as the basis for a more accurate assessment of the Indonesian cultural and linguistic context. Furthermore, it is suggested a standard for researchers, practitioners, and educators who focus on adolescent welfare issues.
