Abstract

Increasing stress, anxiety and pressure conditions in various ways make most people experience a decrease in psychological well-being, especially among Generation Z today. One of the interesting approaches to be studied further to improve psychological well-being is positive Psychological Interventions. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of positive psychological interventions on psychological well-being. This study is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the PRISMA guidelines, with literature searches on Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SagePub databases in the range of 2013–2023. The results of the selection screened 6 studies that met the inclusion criteria, namely experimental research based on Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT). The results of the analysis showed that positive psychology interventions, such as mindfulness, gratitude, optimism, and approaches based on the PERMA (Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment) model, were proven to improve psychological well-being. The reviewed studies revealed that positive psychological interventions are able to increase happiness, reduce stress and depression, and increase individual resilience in the face of life's challenges.

Abstract

This study discusses the division of gender roles in the culture of Mamasa, West Sulawesi, focusing on the Pa'bannetauan ritual related to marriage and childbirth. The study finds that the bilateral kinship system in Mamasa allows for an equitable division of roles between men and women, supporting gender equality. Although there is freedom in choosing a partner, strict customary rules must still be followed, including offerings and agreements between both families. These findings are compared with patrilineal and matrilineal kinship systems in other cultures, showing that the bilateral system in Mamasa better supports gender equality. The article concludes that the customary norms in Mamasa can serve as an example of how traditions can support gender equality and justice in society.

Abstract

Traffic congestion is a major transportation issue in Surabaya, prompting the city government to introduce solutions such as the "Wira-Wiri Suroboyo" feeder service. While the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) has been widely used to explain public transportation use, it has not yet been applied to this context. To fill this lacuna, this study used TPB to explore the public perceptions of the Surabaya to use or not using the "Wira-Wiri Suroboyo" feeder. A qualitative approach was used with six purposively selected participants. Data were gathered through interviews and analyzed using interactive techniques. The research findings indicate that the reasons for using or not using the "Wira-Wiri Suroboyo" feeder are significantly influenced by positive or negative evaluations of the feeder, the influence of significant others, and the perceived ease or difficulty of accessing the "Wira-Wiri Suroboyo" feeder. The participants recommended improvements, such as expanding routes, adjusting schedules, enhancing app use, and improving infrastructure and facilities. These insights can help the government improve the effectiveness of the service and contribute to easing traffic congestion.

Abstract

Body image dissatisfaction, caused by a discrepancy between cultural-based ideal body and individual actual body, is experienced by most of adolescent girls. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of bibliotherapy on adolescent girls with body image dissatisfaction. Subjects were 15 senior high school girls, aged 14-17 years, with BMI (Body Mass Index) thin to normal, with average to high body image dissatisfaction. By using pretest-posttest control group design, the subjects were assigned into three groups, i.e. interactive and reading bibliotherapy as experimental groups and the waiting-list control group. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) is employed to measure the differences of body dissatisfaction among the three groups. The result showed that there were no significant differences of body dissatisfaction in the pretest – posttest and posttest – follow-up, between the three groups. It means that neither interactive nor reading bibliotherapy was effective in reducing the adolescent girls’ body image dissatisfaction.

Abstract

Ina pluralistic religious society, fostering tolerance is essential for promoting mutual understanding and respect across differing perspectives. This study examined the relationship between intrinsic religiosity orientation, personality traits (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, intellect, and emotional stability), and religious tolerance among Christian students toward their Muslim peers. A cross-sectional survey with quota-accidental sampling was conducted involving 402 Christian students aged 18-24 years, enrolled in Christian-affiliated, public, and multicultural universities in Surabaya. Data were collected using the Religious Orientation Scale, Religious Tolerance Scale, and IPIP-BFM-25 Scale. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that intrinsic religiosity orientation and personality traits collectively explained a significant proportion of the variance in religious tolerance [F (6, 401) = 68.140, Adj. R² = .501, p < .001]. Partial analyses indicated that intrinsic religiosity orientation, extraversion, agreeableness, and conscientiousness significantly influenced religious tolerance, whereas intellect and emotional stability did not. These findings provide important insights into personal factors shaping interreligious harmony in diverse societies

Abstract

Bapukung is a unique tradition of the Banjar people in South Kalimantan that has been passed down through generations, involving putting a baby to sleep in a sitting position within a cloth cradle wrapped with a long fabric. It is believed that this practice helps babies sleep soundly, reduces fussiness, and supports physical development by strengthening the neck, spine, and posture, and providing a sense of security and comfort. This study aims to explore the cultural meanings, emotional significance, and psychological values embedded in the Bapukung tradition, particularly in relation to child well-being and parental mental health. The methodology employed in this study is a literature review, which involves systematically searching for and critically evaluating relevant sources from academic journals and published papers. The results revealed that beyond health benefits, Bapukung positively impacts a child’s intelligence by promoting quality sleep and establishing healthy sleep patterns. The rocking motion mimics being cradled, offering tranquillity even in noisy environments, and eases parents to care for the baby while managing other activities. Spiritual values such as reciting dzikir and hymns accompany the practice, adding moral and educational dimensions. With its numerous benefits, Bapukung deserves preservation as a cultural heritage that supports holistic child-rearing.

Abstract

The research aimed to examine and explain the relationship between religious fundamentalism and intergroup threats toward undergraduate students’ prejudice against gays and lesbians. Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, a slogan about tolerance, is supposed to protect and enhance diversity in Indonesia. On the contrary, sexual minority groups, gays and lesbians, often accept stereotypes, prejudices, and discrimination from the majority of Indonesian because they are considered against the religious values and morality of Indonesian. The research used a cross-sectional survey design with accidental sampling methods. The research subjects were students aged 18 to 24 years who studied at universities in Surabaya, identified as heterosexuals, and with diverse religious backgrounds (N = 414). The instruments used were the Attitudes Towards Lesbians and Gay Men (ATLG), the Revised Religious Fundamentalism Scale (RFS-12), and the Perceived Threat of Homosexuals (PTHS) Scale. Multiple regression analysis shows that religious fundamentalism and intergroup threat plays a significant role in explaining prejudice against gays and lesbians (R = 0,872; R² = 0,761; F = 654,817; p < 0,001). The role of intergroup threat as a predictor of prejudice against gays and lesbians is higher than religious fundamentalism.Additional analysis shows that academic discipline, contact, empathy, religion, and university characteristics affect students’ prejudice.
