Abstract

This research purpose to describe metacognition in solving Open Ended SPLDV Problems Based on Sensing Intuition personality. This research type is qualitatif descriptive conducted in class VIII I SMP Negeri 1 Purwosari. Subjects of this research consist of 3 students with Sensing personality and 3 students with Intuition personality selected based on the highest score on personality type. Six students will solve Open Ended problem and inteview. The results showed that students sensing type receive information based on the facts, while students Intuition type personality found a correlation based on information. Students Sensing type only solve Open Ended problems using two different methods the teacher had been taught, while students Intuition type able to solve Open Ended problems using new methods and able to explain solution more than two correctly answers. On the worksheet students Sensing type tend to be systematic, while students Intuition type tend to be not systematis. Although there is a difference metacognition activities in solving Open Ended SPLDV problems, students with Sensing and Intuition personality able to meet all indicator metacognition planning, monitoring, and evaluating.

Abstract

Abstract. This research describes the process and the development result development of math literacy based on Madura ethnic culture for SMP / MTs students. This research is a development research that refers to the steps of Plomp model development. In this research, it was produced 1 package of test item consisting of 5 theme questions amounted to 8 questions. The package of test item developed is related to the use of mathematics in social life, especially in Maduran ethnic culture. Before this package of test item was tested, firstly, an assessment by 2 validators is done. On the assessment result of these experts, it was obtained the coefficient of validity of 2.61 with a high validity interpretation. In addition to the packages of test item validated by the validator, the package of test item is also given to 6 students of 8th grade students of MTs Nurul Islam Jember to conduct legibility test. The next stage was testing the package of test in the field. The result of this try out from field was analyzed. The analysis conducted is the validity test for each test item, reliability test, test item differentiation power assessment, test item difficulty level assessment and the level of students' mathematical literacy ability. The results of validity test item on the package of math literacy test item based on Madura ethnic culture obtained all the questions developed were valid. In the package of math literacy test item based on Madura ethnic culture showed high reliability with a coefficient of 0.76. The result of differentiation power test obtained two test items with a category of good, two questions with a category of enough and four problems with a category of bad. On the assessment of difficulty level, it was obtained five questions with a category of difficult, two problems with a category of medium and one problem with a category of easy. The students' math literacy ability level indicated that students were at level 1, level 2, and level 3. Based on the result of the analysis conducted, it can be concluded that the quality of the developed problem package is good. Key Words: Mathematical literacy test items, Madura ethnic culture

Abstract

The purpose of the research are to describe the types of students’ errors based on Watson's criteria assessed from their mathematical ability and gender, and examine the causes of students’ errors. This type of research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. Data collection methods used are observation and interviews. The subjects of the study were 6 students consisting of 3 male students and 3 female students of class VIIIB of SMP 4 Jember which each students represented a high, medium, and low level of mathematics ability. Based on the results obtained, many students experience errors when working on the Two Variable Linear Equation System problem, both for male and female students at the level of high, medium, and low mathematical abilities. Each type of error has a cause of error. Keywords: errors, gender, mathematical abilities, Watson's criteria, Two-Variable Linear Equation System

Abstract

Abstract. This research aims to describe students’ misconception to solve evaluated problem based on Certainty of Response Index. It is a descriptive qualitative research. This research was conducted in SMPN 3 Jember with 67 students grade VIII. The instrument used test the higher order thinking of mathematics problems and guidelines for interview. The data collection methods were test and interview. The respondences were given test then the result of test would be categorized into lucky guess, lack of knowledge, understand concept, and misconceptions based on CRI. Based on data analysis, it can be conclude there are students’ misconceptions. In CRI scale 3, students had misconceptions in translation, systematic, strategy, and counting to solve evaluated problem. In CRI scale 4, students had misconceptions in translation, systematic, and strategy. In CRI scale 5, students had misconceptions in translation, systematic, strategy, and counting. Abstract

Abstract. This research aims to describe mathematics representation ability of students’ with impulsive and reflective cognitive style in solving open-ended problem. Instruments which were used are MFFT, open-ended question, and interview. MFFT test used to categorize reflective-impulsive cognitive style. From MFFT test result obtained 2 reflective students and 2 impulsive students who then tested with open-ended problem and interview in order to knowing subjects’ mathematics representation ability in solving open-ended problem. Based on analysis and discussion can be concluded that students with reflective style fulfilled all of the mathematis representation indicators which are visual representation, expression or mathematics equation and words or written text. Students with impulsive cognitive style only fulfilled some of the mathematics representation indicators which are expression or mathematics equations and words or written text. Abstract

Abstract. Based on interview results, some students said that gradient was the most difficulted topic. It caused by learning model that teacher used is monotonous and too bored, that’s why we need Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) with games media to solve the problem. Through the games media, students are expected to be easily in understanding mathematical concepts especially to solve problems that related to the topic of gradient. This study aims to knowing the effectiveness of MMP’s learning model with games media on Equation of Straight Line’s topic for student’s mathematics learning outcomes. This research is a pure experimental research with Posttest-only control design design. The population are all of students in second class of SMP Negeri 1 Banyuglugur. Sampling is choosed by cluster random sampling technique. The sample consisted of 2 kinds of class. Hypothesis testing method that used in this research is T test (One Sample Test). This research show that H0 was rejected with tcount = 3,416 > ttable = 2,060 and p-value = 0,002 ˂ 0,025. It means that the learning model of MMP with games media on Equation of Straight Line’s topic is effective for student’s mathematics learning outcomes. Abstract

Abstract. There are manystudentswhohave difficultyin solvingmath problems. Difficultiesresulted instudentsmaking mistakein solvingproblems. The kinds of student’s mistakes consist of the use of data errors, error of theorem or definition, technical errors, language interpretation errorsand another errors. Therefore, appliedcooperative learning modelof jigsaw type toovercome thestudent’smistakes in solvingthe Algebraic Factorization problems at eighthgradeSMP Negeri 11 Jemberacademic year2013/2014. This research design is Classroom Action Research (CAR). Basedon this research, the application ofcooperative learning modelof jigsaw type canincrease the activity ofstudentsanddecreasestudent’s mistakesin solvingAlgebraic Factorization. The percentage ofeffectivenesson the first cycle of 43.23 % and 33.05 % for the second cycle . So it can be concluded that the application of cooperative learning model of jigsaw type is effective enough to overcome student’s mistakesin solving Algebraic Factorization.
