Abstract

Abstract

The egg production and quality are crucial indicators in the layer chicken industry. Optimal productivity in layer chicken farming requires the use of nutraceutical-based feed comprising probiotics, herbs, amino acids, and vitamin A. This study aims to assess the effects of nutraceutical feed on two primary parameters: productivity and egg quality. The study was carried out over four weeks at the Peternakan Rakyat Tepus in Mojogedang, Karanganyar with a chicken population of 1.206. This study was a designed in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two treatments: feed without supplementation (T0) and feed with supplement contains probiotics, herbs, amino acids, and vitamin. The study findings indicated that adding the nutraceuticals PR12 at 4 kg/ton in the feed did not exhibit a significant difference (P0.05) in daily feed consumption. However, feed conversion ratio (FCR), hen day production (HDP), egg weight, egg mass, yolk index, and Haugh unit were significantly different (P0.05). The incorporation of nutraceuticals (PR12) into the feed can enhance HDP, egg weight, and egg mass, and improve FCR. In conclusion, adding PR12 nutraceuticals, composting of probiotics, herbs, amino acids, and vitamin A at a dosage of 4 kg/ton in the feed can enhance the productivity of laying hens by 16.39%, resulting in eggs classified within the AA quality category.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effects of the interaction of the addition of vitamin C, the type of diluent, and the duration of storage at 5°C on the quality and fertility of Rooster Kampung spermatozoa and the fertile period of Red Kedu hen eggs. Semen was collected from 10 roosters subjected to vitamin C level treatment (0 mg, 0.1 mg, 0.2 mg, or 0.3 mg), two diluent types (lactated Ringer (RL) and skim milk + 50 mM glucose), and storage durations (0 hours, 3 hours, 6 hours, or 9 hours). The sperm samples meeting the quality standards were inseminated into 64 Red Kedu hens. Phase 1 of the study used a factorial randomised design (2´4´4) followed by variance analysis and orthogonal polynomial testing. Phase 2 applied the eight best result treatments from phase 1 via a completely randomised design with Tukey’s test for post hoc analysis. The results revealed a highly significant interaction effect (P<0,01) between vitamin C level and diluent type on motility, plasma membrane integrity (IPM), and sperm abnormality. The interaction effect of vitamin C level and storage duration had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on motility, IPM, and viability. The interaction effect of diluent type and storage duration significantly affected (P<0.01) motility and IPM. However, no significant effect (P>0.05) among all three variables was observed on fertility or the fertile period. In summary, the addition of 0.3 mg of vitamin C, lactated Ringer’s diluent, and 6 hours of storage at 5°C maintained sperm quality and resulted in 51.78±37.64 fertility and a fertile period of 15 days in Red Kedu hens.

Abstract

Microclimate conditions significantly influence broiler production efficiency in tropical climates. This study evaluated microclimate conditions and their impact on production and economic efficiency in open, semi-closed, and closed housing systems. The research was conducted on three commercial farms representing each housing system in West Java. Microclimate parameters (temperature, relative humidity, heat stress index) and production performance (body weight, FCR, mortality, production index) were measured over one production cycle. Results showed that the closed-house system maintained significantly better microclimate conditions with lower temperature deviations (brooding: -0.52°C; post-brooding: -0.35°C) compared to open (1.06°C; 5.11°C) and semi-closed houses (0.07°C; 1.54°C). The closed-house system achieved significantly higher final body weight (2397.6 g/bird), production index (434), and income over feed cost (Rp 31,238/bird) compared to other systems. Correlation analysis revealed strong negative relationships between temperature parameters and production performance (p<0.01). The closed-house system demonstrated superior microclimate control, leading to significantly improved production efficiency and economic returns.
