Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the proportion of food grade and effective ethanol solvent to extract antioxidant phytoconstituents in wangon leaves. This study used 50%, 70% and 96% ethanol solvent. Wangon leaves were extracted with soxhlet method to produce the corresponding extract. Then the extract was tested for its antioxidant activity and the levels of the compound suspected to be active as an antioxidant compound including flavonoids and phenolic total were determined. The results showed that the best solvent proportion for extracting wangon leaves to have the greatest antioxidant activity was 96% ethanol. It was proved that 96% ethanol extract has potency as antioxidant with IC50 value equal to 71,27 ppm better than 50% and 70% ethanol extract. The 96% ethanol extract also had the greatest flavonoid and phenolic content of 99.44 ± 1.27mg Quercelia equivalent (QE)/g samples and 121.66 ± 1.39 mg Gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g samples. The content of flavonoid and phenolic phytoconstituents in the extract has a linear correlation and was strongly associated with its antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Meracik sediaan serbuk merupakan salah satu bentuk pelayanan resep. Sediaan pulveres yang biasa disebut puyer biasanya berasal dari sediaan tablet. Teknik penggerusan sediaan pulveres umumnya menggunakan mortir-stamper dan alat blender (pulverization). Penggerusan dengan menggunakan alat blender dapat mempercepat proses penggerusan dan lebih praktis, tetapi panas yang ditimbulkan pada alat blender dikhawatirkan mampu menurunkan kadar aktif pada suatu sediaan yang memiliki bahan aktif tidak stabil terhadap adanya panas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kadar aktif pada tablet vitamin C yang telah dilakukan penggerusan dengan metode blender dan mengetahui apakah penggerusan dengan metode blender dapat mempengaruhi kadar aktif terhadap tablet vitamin C. Sampel pada penelitian ini ada 3 macam merek tablet vitamin C yang dijual di salah satu apotek di Surakarta. Ada 2 macam perlakuan yaitu tablet vitamin C yang digerus dengan metode blender dan tablet vitamin C yang tanpa perlakuan. Uji kualitatif dilakukan dengan menggunakan pereaksi KMnO4, Iodium, Fehling A dan Fehling B yang menunjukkan hasil positif. Uji kuantitatif menggunakan metode Spektrofotometri UV-Vis dengan panjang gelombang 266nm. Hasil penelitian ini pada tablet vitamin C dengan metode Spektrofotometri UV-Vis terdapat kadar asam askorbat pada sediaan tablet vitamin C blender (1) 45,11±0,494mg/tablet, tablet vitamin C blender (2) 45,93±0,275, tablet vitamin C blender (3) 44,12±0,684mg/tablet. Berdasarkan penelitian ini penggerusan dengan metode blender dapat menyebabkan penurunan kadar vitamin C dibandingkan dengan hasil tablet vitamin C yang tanpa perlakuan.

Abstract

Tamarind leaves contain compounds that have conjugated chromophore groups from aromatic rings such as phenol and its derivatives that can absorb ultraviolet radiation at a wavelength of 200-400 nm. Lotion is a form of sunscreen preparation that is comfortable to use because it has a lower oil content. This research aims to determine whether tamarind leaves extract obtained through multilevel maceration can be made into a sunscreen lotion with good physical stability and quality, determine the SPF value of each and compare them. Multilevel maceration is used to extract tamarind leaves. Solvents used are in sequence from non-polar, semi-polar and polar. Three formulas containing n-hexane extract, ethyl acetate extract, and 70% extract; and one more as a negative control. The three formulas contain tamarind leaves extract have the same concentration, 5%. Each formula is then tested to determine its qualities by physically. The SPF value was measured using UV-Visible spectrophotometer instrument at a wavelength of 290-320 nm with 5 nm intervals. The research results showed that the lotion preparation with tamarind leaf extract had good physical quality and maximum ultraviolet protection category, with SPF value for Formula 1 namely 9,81±0,07; Formula 2 namely 11,65±0,17; and Formula 3 namely 12,32±0,52. Formula 3 has the best physical quality and SPF value among the other formulas.

Abstract

The harmful effects caused by solar UV radiation cause sunburn. Using sunscreen is one way to protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays. Binahong leaves (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) have alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids, and terpenoids which are helpful as sunscreens. This study aims to determine whether the extract and cream formula of binahong leaves has the potential as sunscreen in vitro and in vivo and the SPF, Tp(%), Te(%), and MED values. Binahong leaf extract was macerated with 96% ethanol. The SPF test uses a UV-VIS spectrophotometer with a 290-320 nm wavelength. Results were analyzed using ANOVA. They made sunscreen using various concentrations of binahong leaf ethanol extract 0.85, 0.95, and 1%. Sunscreen was tested in vitro and in vivo on rabbit test animals. The in vitro test results of the binahong leaf extract yield an SPF value of 45.7 ± 1.76 (ultra protection), Tp (%) of 10.39 ± 1.14 (fast tanning), and Te (%) of 15.49 ±1.74 (sunblock), in vivo, the extract has a MED value of 0 and FIII (1%) cream of binahong leaf extract is the best preparation because it has physical quality that meets the requirements, with an SPF value of 43.8 ± 1.88 (ultra protection), Te (%) was 18.96 ± 1.04, and Tp (%) was 28.00 ± 1.65, in vivo the extract had a MED value of 0.

Abstract

Sun Protection Factor or SPF is defined as the ratio between the amount of sunlight energy (in this case UV-B) needed to cause minimal erythema on sun-protected skin with the amount of energy needed to cause minimal erythema on skin that is not protected by sunscreen. Rosela flowers contain flavonoids, anthocyanes, and polyphenols. Flavonoids compound have the potential as sunscreens because they have a chromophore group (single conjugated double bond) that is able to absorb UV-A and UV-B rays so that it reduces the intensity of the skin. This research was conducted to find out the SPF value of the n-hexane fraction, the ethyl acetate fraction and the water fraction from the rosela flower. And it is known that the faction that has the highest SPF value can be used as sunscreen. Rosela flower extract then fractionated with n hexane, ethyl acetate and water solvents. The resulting fractions in the form of n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and water and extract fractions were measured for their SPF values. SPF measurements can be done in vitro using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. In vitro testing was useful for preliminary tests in the process of developing sunscreen products. The SPF value of the extract, the n-hexane fraction, the ethyl acetate fraction and the water fraction from the rosela flower extract, respectively 6,63±0,23; 10,11±0,61; 13,83±1,50; 11,15±0,47. The ethyl acetate fraction was the fraction that has the highest SPF value that can be used as a sunscreen.

Abstract

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation can penetrate the epidermis layer of the skin so that it can irritate and damage skin tissue. Chitosan containing chitin compounds has the potential to provide protection against ultraviolet (UV) exposure. This study aims to determine the activity of chitosan gel sunscreen seen from the SPF value, the influence of the use of variations in concentration in a combination of carbopol and HPMC as a gelling agent on the activity of chitosan gel sunscreens, concentration variations in the combination of carbopol and HPMC which are able to provide good physical properties and gel stability. The variation of concentration in the combination of carbopol and HPMC as a gelling agent was made into 3 formulas, F1 (100% carbopol: 0% HPMC), F2 (50% carbopol: 50% HPMC), F3 (0% carbopol: 100% HPMC). Chitosan gel sunscreen activity test was carried out with the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) test using UV-VIS spectrophotometry. The SPF value price is calculated using the mansyur method. SPF test results were statistically analyzed using One Way ANOVA. SPF test results from variations in concentration in a combination of carbopol and HPMC as a gelling agent, F1 (9,091348), F2 (5,419107), F3 (6,437869). SPF test results that were statistically analyzed using One Way ANOVA showed that all the data tested were significantly different from the most active formula, F1 (100% carbopol: 0% HPMC) with the SPF value price 9,091348.

Abstract

Pomegranate leaves (Punica granatum L.) contain flavonoids as a decrease in blood glucose levels and prevent tissue damage due to oxidative stress. This study aims to determine the effect of white pomegranate leaf ethanol extract on blood glucose levels, body weight, and the effective dose of white pomegranate leaf ethanol extract in reducing blood glucose levels in mice induced by alloxan. A total of 30 male mice were divided into 6 treatment groups, namely group I (normal), group II (negative control of CMC-Na 0.5%), group III (positive control of glibenclamide), group IV (extract 140 mg/Kg BW), group V (extract 280 mg/Kg BW) and group VI (extract 560 mg/Kg BW). The treatment was given for 14 days by measuring blood glucose levels and body weight on days 0, 3,10, and 17. The results of the analysis of blood glucose levels and body weight were carried out statistically through the Multivariate Test and Tukey Post Hoc test, while the decrease in glucose levels analyzed using One-Way Anova test and Tukey Post Hoc test. The results showed that the extract had antihyperglycemic activity in alloxan-induced mice. The ethanol extract of white pomegranate leaves at a dose of 280 mg/Kg BW had an effective antihyperglycemic activity compared to doses of 140 mg/Kg BW and 560 mg/Kg BW which were comparable to the positive control group.

Abstract

The ethyl acetate fraction of the ethanol extract of roselle flower petals (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) was reported to have an SPF value of 13.83 ± 1.50 which was higher than the ethanol extract. So with the SPF value, the ethyl acetate fraction of roselle flower ethanol extract can be used as a sunscreen. One of the cosmetic preparations that is currently growing rapidly is serum. The purpose of this study was to formulate the ethyl acetate fraction of roselle petals into a serum that had good physical quality with variations in the concentration of xanthan gum and then the SPF value was determined. This research begins with the manufacture of ethanol extract of roselle petals. Then fractionation (liquid-liquid partition) was carried out using solvents with different polarities, namely n-hexane and ethyl acetate. Furthermore, the ethyl acetate fraction was formulated into serum with variations in the concentration of xanthan gum 0.3%, respectively; 0.6% and 1.2% were then tested for physical quality and stability. The next step is to determine the SPF value of the serum by using the UV spectrophotometric method and its calculation using the Mansur equation. The results showed that the serum ethyl acetate fraction of the ethanolic extract of roselle petals could be made into gel preparations with good physical qualities including organoleptic, viscosity, pH and homogeneity. Serum ethyl acetate fraction ethanol extract of roselle flower formulas 1, 2 and 3 had SPF values ​​F1 respectively, namely 6.8595 ± 0.08 which included moderate protection potential; F2 is 7.0089 ± 0.17; and F3 which is 8.2251 ± 0.32 with extra protection potential. Variations in the concentration of xanthan gum in the serum formula affect the physical quality of the viscosity and potency of sunscreen preparations.

Abstract

Papersoap is a thin printed solid soap product as a unique innovation because it resembles paper. Soursop leaves contain flavonoid compounds, tannins, alkaloids and saponins that are useful as antibacterial. preparations papersoap with soursop leaf extract require glycerin as a plasticizer is believed to produce good physicochemical properties. This study aims to determine the physical quality of papersoap from the effect of soursop leaf extract and variations of glycerin and to test the antibacterial activity of the Papersoap against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Soursop leaf extract was obtained by maceration method with 96% ethanol as solvent. The concentration of soursop leaf extract 5% was formulated into papersoap with three variations of glycerin formula, namely 10%, 15%, and 20%.preparation papersoap includes organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, foam stability, water content, and free alkali tests which have passed the curing for two weeks as the preparation evaluation stage. Antibacterial activity test against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 using well diffusion method. The data obtained were processed using Shapiro-wilk, one way ANOVA/Kruskal. The results showed that the formula of the papersoap preparation of soursop leaf ethanol extract (Annona muricata L.) with glycerin variations can provide differences in the physical quality of papersoap preparations and have an inhibitory diameter against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria ATCC 25923 successively 25.26; 24,67; 23.47 mm.

Abstract

Antioksidan adalah senyawa kimia yang menyumbangkan elektron ke radikal bebas agar menjadi tidak reaktif. Antioksidan alam yang bisa dimanfaatkan yaitu daun kunyit (Curcuma longa L.). Kandungan flavonoid dalam daun kunyit bertindak sebagai antioksidan. Penelitian ini bermaksud untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan, kadar fenolik total dan flavonoid total pada fraksi n-heksana, etil asetat dan air ekstrak daun kunyit. Daun kunyit dimaserasi menggunakan etanol 96%. Ekstrak yang didapatkan dilanjutkan difraksinasi dengan n-heksana, etil asetat dan air serta dilakukan aktivitas antioksidan dengan DPPH. Fraksi dan ekstrak dianalisis kadar flavonoid total dengan AlCl3 dan fenolik total dengan folin-ciocalteu, Pengujian menggunakan spektrofotometri UV-Vis. Hasil pengujian antioksidan dengan IC50 ekstrak, fraksi n-heksana, etil asetat dan air yaitu 41,11 ± 0,09, 130,62 ± 0,07, 32,35 ± 0,03, 100,30 ± 0,2 ppm. Kadar flavonoid total pada ekstrak, fraksi n-heksana, etil asetat dan air  sebesar 39,79 ± 0,33, 10,38 ± 0,26, 42,00 ± 0,56, 12,91 ± 0,14 mg QE/g. Kadar fenolik total pada ekstrak, fraksi n-heksana, etil asetat dan air sebesar 140,74 ± 0,21, 55,41 ± 0,19, 303,86 ± 0,99, 63,88 ± 0,56 mg GAE/g.
