Abstract

Microplastics (MPs) are pollutant agents that have been absorbed and detected in aquatic ecosystems at high concentrations. This study aimed to investigate the presence of MPs pollution in green mussel (Perna viridis) products sold at the Kedonganan fish market, Badung, Bali. A total of 150 mussels with an average weight of 3,2 ± 0,71 g/mussels from three traders each composed and followed by the pre-treatment stage using 5 M NaCl solution, extraction with wet oxidation peroxidation (WPO) + Fe(II) catalyst and filtered. The highest percentage for the form of MPs was successively obtained by the Line form in Trader A at 85,42% and the lowest in Trader C at 50,00%. The highest form of fragments was obtained in Trader C at 42,86%. Film and filament forms were only obtained in Trader A. The highest MPs color was black and the lowest was gray. The highest average MPs particle size was found in the form of a filament of 1944,37 ± 88,41 μm which was found in Trader A. Estimates of MPs intake per year/capita in Indonesia showed that exposure to MPs through consumption of green mussels in this study amounted to 498,330 MPs/year/capita items. Overall, the green mussel from Trader A had the highest percentage and size of MPs, with the shape of fragment MPs being dominated by Trader C and the color of the MPs being dominated by black. MPs exposure to green mussel consumption in Indonesia is very high, but no health impact category has yet been found for this estimate.

Abstract

Background: The Celuk - Sukawati Village tourist area is one of the favorite tourist attractions in Gianyar Regency. Most of the population work as silver and gold craftsmen. Even though the local community has relatively high income and education, empirically the community still maintains the tradition of using herbal medicine to prevent or treat disease, but they do not understand how to process it and do not understand the correct dosage. Community service activities are organized by Udayana University and Bali International University, to educate the community. Method: the method of implementing this activity includes several important stages, namely socialization of osteoporosis prevention exercises to maintain bone health; followed by education regarding herbal medicines regarding their types and benefits; and ended with a discussion and question and answer session to deepen participants' understanding. The activity closed with a demonstration on making herbal drinks, where participants could see the making process directly and taste the results, so they could practice it themselves at home. Result: This activity involved around 100 people from various age groups, who actively participated in the entire series of events. The activities ran smoothly and were supported by extraordinary attention and positive responses from the community. Conclusion: The target and output of this service program is to provide knowledge and insight to the community about how to make herbal drinks and improve physical health through exercise to prevent osteoporosis. The implementation of community service with various parties needs to be intensified to provide benefits to improve the level of public health.

Abstract

This study aims to prove that administering BBLE as a natural antioxidant can prevent atherosclerosis by maintaining lipid profiles, antioxidant enzymes, and netrin-1 levels in hyperlipidemia in rat models. The research subjects were 20 adult male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus), which were divided into 2 groups using a randomized pretest and posttest control group design. Before treatment and after treatment for 3 months, lipid profiles, MDA, SOD, and netrin-1  were examined. The control group was only given high-cholesterol diets (HCD), while the treatment, apart from HCD, was also given BBLE 4mg/day. The data obtained was tested using paired t-test and group t-test. The results of the study showed that there was a significant decrease in netrin-1 in the control group (p<0.05) after being given HCD for three months. In the treatment group, it also decreased but it was not significant (p>0.05). Netrin-1 levels in the treatment group were higher than the control (p<0.05). The lipid profile experienced a significant increase in HDL in the treatment group accompanied by a significant decrease in MDA and an increase in SOD (p<0.05) when compared with the control group. This study concludes that administering BBLE at a dose of 4 mg/day to rats given HCD caused an increase in netrin-1 levels accompanied by improvements in lipid profiles and prevention of oxidative stress. The findings of this study reveal the novelty of BBLE in treating and maintaining blood vessel function in mice given HCD by increasing netrin-1 levels.

Abstract

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a condition marked by excessive fat accumulation in the liver and poses a significant health challenge. The leaves of Blumea balsamifera and Sargassum aquifolium have been reported to have anti-atherogenic effects. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of B. balsamifera extract (BBLE) and S. aquifolium extract (SAE) in preventing and treating liver fat accumulation in Wistar rats induced by a high-cholesterol diet through the expression of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK)/ Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1)/peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) pathway, and the leptin receptor. The experimental design of this study is laboratory-based, involving, 20 Wistar rats were fed a high-cholesterol diet over a period of 21 days. The rats were divided into four groups for the evaluation of BBLE and SAE effect: negative control (P0): induced with a high-cholesterol diet + distilled water, positive control (P1): induced with a high-cholesterol diet + simvastatin, P2: induced with a high-cholesterol diet + 4 mg/kg/bw BBLE, and P3: induced with a high-cholesterol diet + 4 mg/kg/bw BBLE and 4 mg/kg/bw SAE. The treatment duration extended over three months. Immunohistochemical analyses were performed on liver tissues to measure AMPK, SIRT1, PPARγ, and leptin receptor expression. The results indicated that leptin expression was lower in the BBLE+SAE group compared to the simvastatin group, and differences were significant between the BBLE and BBLE+SAE groups. No significant differences were noted in AMPK, SIRT1, and PPARγ expression between the simvastatin and BBLE+SAE groups (p≥0.05). In conclusion, BBLE and SAE effectively reduce liver lipid accumulation and enhance fat metabolism in hypercholesterolemic rats.

Abstract

SMAN 2 Mengwi merupakan salah satu sekolah menegah atas yang berlokasi di Kabupaten Badung, Bali yang mendukung adanya kegiatan pengembangan diri Karya Ilmiah Remaja (KIR) sebagai wadah siswa untuk meningkatkan prestasi. Namun dalam pelaksanaanya terutama dalam KIR untuk terus dapat mengikuti dan dapat meraih juara dalam berbagai lomba olimpiade dan lomba penulisan artikel ilmiah dan lainnya terkendala dalam kurangnya pengetahuan mengenai potensi penggunaan laboratorium di sekolah untuk melakukan mini riset dalam mendukung berbagai lomba sains yang akan diikuti. Kurangnya pengetahuan dalam melaksanakan riset ilmiah dan menyusun artikel ilmiah yang sesuai dengan kaidah ilmiah. Oleh karena itu tim PKM melakukan pendampingan dan pelatihan terhadap mitra yaitu: 1)memberikan penyuluhan terkait jenis-jenis hewan coba yang digunakan dalam riset ilmiah bagi guru dan siswa; 2)memberikan penyuluhan terkait terkait teknik penggunaan hewan coba dalam riset ilmiah bagi guru dan siswa; 3)melakukan pendampingan terkait praktek secara langsung teknik penggunaan hewan coba dalam riset ilmiah bagi guru dan siswa; 4)memberikan penyuluhan terkait tenik penulisan artikel ilmiah bagi guru dan siswa; 5) melakukan pendampingan terkait praktek membuat proposal riset ilmiah bagi guru dan siswa. Hasil PKM ini adalah: 1) Wawasan mitra terkait jenis-jenis hewan coba yang digunakan dalam riset ilmiah meningkat setelah sosialisasi dari rata-rata nilai 52 pada pre test menjadi 87 setelah post test; 2)Pengetahuan mitra terkait teknik penggunaan hewan coba dalam riset ilmiah meningkat setelah sosialisasi dari rata-rata nilai 50 pada pre test menjadi 80 setelah post test; 3)Keterampilan mitra terkait teknik penggunaan hewan coba dalam riset ilmiah meningkat setelah pelatihan dari rata-rata nilai 60 pada pre test menjadi 80 setelah post test; 4)Pengetahuan mitra terkait tenik penulisan artikel ilmiah meningkat setelah sosialisasi dari rata-rata nilai 53 pada pre test menjadi 83 setelah post test; 5)Keterampilan mitra dalam membuat proposal ilmiah meningkat setelah pendampingan dari rata-rata nilai 62 pada pre test menjadi 87 setelah post test.

Abstract

Brown algae are considered to be a source of antioxidants that can contribute to improving health. The purpose of this study was to determine the best combination of brown algae and solvent types based on the parameters of antioxidant capacity, toxicity to Vero cells, and bacterial contamination that affects brown algae simplicia during 30 d of storage. Brown algae, Sargassum aquifolium and Padina australis, were collected from Sanur Beach at the lowest point in the intertidal zone. Extraction was performed using three solvents: ethanol, methanol, and distilled water. The antioxidant capacity of the brown algae extracts was measured using the DPPH method. The brown algae extract, which showed antioxidant capacity and IC50 in the strong category, was used for cytotoxicity testing. Bacterial contamination testing was performed based on the simple storage time of brown algae for 30 d. The results showed that the combination of S. aquifolium and P. australis ethanol extract (ratio 1:10) had a yield percentage of 37.2% with an antioxidant capacity of 0.935±0.003 mg/L GAEAC and an IC50 value of 89.03 μg/mL (strong category). The combination of S. aquifolium and P. australis ethanol extracts had an IC50 value of 382.30 μg/mL (the weak category). Total plate count (TPC), Enterobacteriaceae, and coliforms increased with the storage time of simplicia for 30 days. These findings indicate that the combination of ethanol extracts of S. aquifolium and P. australis is a potential source of natural antioxidants.

Abstract

Desa Wisata Catur telah dikenal dengan produksi Kopi Arabika yang telah diekspor ke mancanegara. Sejauh ini inovasi pengembangan produk dari tanaman kopi telah dilakukan oleh masyarakat di Desa Catur seperti inovasi teh dari pucuk daun kopi dan kue molen kopi. Inovasi pemanfaatan biji kopi untuk membuat produk kecantikan seperti lulur kopi masih belum dikembangkan di Desa ini. Sehingga Tim PKM berencana untuk melakukan pendampingan terhadap kelompok wanita tani di Desa Catur untuk membuat produk kecantikan yaitu produk lulur kopi.   Permasalahan mitra:    1)Mitra hanya mengolah biji kopi menjadi kopi bubuk, inovasi produk olahan biji kopi dalam bentuk lulur belum pernah dicoba. Oleh karena itu perlu adanya inovasi dan kreatifitas dalam  meningkatkan daya saing dan penjualan hasil olahan biji kopi, 2)Mitra belum memiliki merk dagang dan kemasan produk hasil inovasi pengembangan produk lulur kopi, 3)Mitra belum memiliki sistem atau strategi pemasaran khusus dan professional. Solusi yang ditawarkan yaitu 1)Pelatihan dan pendampingan untuk membuat inovasi produk olahan biji kopi dalam bentuk lulur, 2) Pendampingan dan pelatihan membuat merk dagang dan desain kemasan baik label maupun pembungkus kemasan supaya produk lulur kopi memiliki nilai jual dan mampu bersaing di pasar tradisional maupun pasar modern, 3) Pelatihan dan pendampingan pembuatan media sosial untuk pemasaran melaui online.Kata Kunci : Desa Catur, lulur kopi, Inovasi, Pemasaran

Abstract

Potensi Desa Luwus sebagai desa pendukung pariwisata karena dilewati jalur utama penghubung antar kota kabupaten serta beberapa tujuan destinasi pariwisata di Bali menjadi faktor pendukung utama mendukung pengembangan produk-produk agraris di desa tersebut. Salah satu produk budidaya lokal yang saat ini berkembang di desa Luwus adalah buah lemon. Tanaman lemon mulai dikembangkan masyarakat setempat sejak pandemi covid-19 mewabah di Indonesia, karena melihat kebutuhan masyarakat terhadap bahan alam yang mampu meningkatkan kekebalan tubuh. Namun dalam perkembangannya saat ini para petani lemon menemui kendala dalam hal pengembangan diversifikasi produk olahan buah lemon, pemasaran dan penurunan jumlah produksi buah lemon segar akibat serangan hama lalat buah. PKM ini memberikan solusi untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut. Sehingga ke depannya diharapkan setelah dilakukan pelatihan diperoleh luaran untuk keberdayaan mitra: 1) Peningkatan 100% keterampilan pengolahan buah lemon menjadi minuman kesehatan yang dapat dikomersilkan, 2) Peningkatan 80% kemampuan memasarkan buah lemon dan produk minuman sari buah lemon dengan memanfaatkan media sosial dan e-commerce 3), Peningkatan 100% keterampilan petani untuk menanggulangi hama lalat buah berbahan dasar atraktan alami ramah lingkungan. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan PKM ini meliputi 1)Aspek produksi yaitu terjadi peningkatan pemahaman terkait manfaat air lemon untuk kesehatan dan peningkatan keterampilan mitra dalam membuat dan mengemas minuman sari buah lemon; 2)Aspek teknologi informasi dan pemasaran yaitu usaha mitra memiliki akun media sosial (facebook, Instagram) dan situs e-commerse berbasis web dan keterampilan mitra dalam membuat dan mengelola akun media sosial dan situs e-commerse meningkat setelah pelatihan dan pendampingan; 3)Aspek solusi hama lalat buah yang menyerang tanaman atau buah lemon yaitu .terjadi peningkatan pengetahuan ekologi dan siklus hidup hama lalat buah dan peningkatan keterampilan mitra dalam membuat perangkap dan menanggulangi hama lalat buah.

Abstract

Batu Lumbang Mangrove Ecotourism, located in Pemogan Village, Denpasar City, is one of the natural destinations located in a conservation area. Problems still faced by partners include not understanding the use of non-timber forest products (NTFPs) from mangroves as raw materials for food and traditional medicine and partners still need assistance to develop diversified tea bag products from mangrove leaves. Mentoring activities were carried out for 3 months at the Segara Guna Batu Lumbang Mangrove. The aim of this program is to provide education and training in making tea bags made from jeruju leaves (Acanthus ilicifolius) that are hygienic, in the right dosage, and increase partners' understanding of NTFPs through a pocket book. The method used in this community partnership program is a qualitative approach and observation. The target and output of this program is to increase partners' knowledge and skills in processing herbal drinks made from mangrove leaves and increase partners' understanding of the use of mangrove NTFPs. The results of the activity showed that there was an increase in partners' skills and knowledge of 88.87% after the program took place in processing and making herbal tea bags and utilizing mangrove pocket books.

Abstract

Masyarakat Desa Luwus berupaya menyediakan kebutuhan para pengunjung yang singgah untuk perjalanan wisata terutama produk lokal yang dihasilkan dari sektor pertanian seperti panganan khas dan buah-buahan lokal. Produk-produk tersebut diusahakan oleh para petani lokal dengan prinsip dari hulu ke hilir yaitu dari menyediakan bibit tanaman pangan atau hortikultura hingga produk pangan olahan industri rumah tangga. Namun dalam perjalanan usaha para petani khususnya petani bibit menghadapi kendala yaitu media tanam yang kurang subur, serangan penyakit pada bibit dan pemasaran. Pendampingan kepada mitra petani bibit hortikultura di Desa Luwus bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan mitra dalam hal membuat media tanam bibit yang baik, menangani serangan penyakit pada bibit, dan perluasan pemasaran bibit secara online. Metode yang digunakan untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan mitra adalah sosialisasi dan pelatihan membuat media tanam, pembuatan fungisida nabati dan pemasaran melalui media sosial. Pengisian kuisioner oleh mitra kelompok tani bibit hortikultura sebelum (pretest) dan setelah pendampingan (posttest) dilakukan untuk mengukur tingkat keberhasilan pendampingan. Hasil pendampingan menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan mitra dalam hal cara membuat media tanam organik dengan metode fermentasi, membuat dan menggunakan fungisida nabati dari ekstrak bawang putih serta perluasan pemasaran online. Pendampingan menghasilkan dampak terhadap peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan mitra dalam hal membuat media tanam, membuat fungisida nabati serta perluasan pasar secara online dengan rata-rata persentase peningkatan sebesar 51,25% serta peningkatan omzet penjualan bibit.
