Abstract

Kata kunci: Balita, Pola Konsumsi Makan, Underweight   Underweight in infancy can lower the quality of life of children both in the short and long term. Many factors contribute to the emergence of underweight, including daily consumption patterns that slow the growth and development of children. This study aims to determine the relationship between consumption patterns and underweight incidence in young people aged 24-59 months in the Puskesmas Anggut Working Region above Bengkulu City. The type of research is analytical observational with a case-control design on 60 samples (10 cases and 50 control). The data was collected using the FFQ (Food Frequency Questionnaire) form through interviews with babies and weight measurements of babies—sampling using accidental sampling techniques for control groups. The square test results showed a correlation between eating patterns and underweight incidence in young people aged 24-59 months (p-value = 0.001). Conclusions of children who had less eating patterns (if score ≤ 500) were found in the entire news, but the case group was higher than the control. The optimal growth and development of the baby starts with the mother paying attention to the proper diet (3 times a day), varied types of food, and served portions of meals to prevent underweight. Abstract

Background: Central obesity manifests as the accumulation of adipose tissue in abdominal (visceral). The assessment of this condition often employs abdominal circumference (AC) as a commonly utilized metric. The increasing prevalence of central obesity is linked to dietary habits encompassing simple carbohydrates, fiber, and protein, environment, behavior, and genetic factors. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the relationship between sugar, salt, and oil consumption patterns and central obesity in employees. Methods: This research was an observational study with a cross-sectional design on 35 employees. Data collection included sugar, salt, and oil consumption patterns collected using a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (SQ-FFQ), and central obesity was obtained by measuring abdominal circumference using measuring tape, then statistical analysis using the Chi-square test. Results: Most respondents had unhealthy consumption patterns of sugar, salt, and oil that were 71.4%, 62.9%, and 82.9%, respectively. There was a significant relationship between consumption patterns of sugar (p=0.002), salt (p=0.033), oil (p=0.019) and the proportion of central obesity in employees at the Regional Library and Archives Office of Bengkulu Province. Conclusions: Twenty-two employees experienced central obesity, with the majority surpassing daily sugar, salt, and oil intake recommendations as a notable risk factor. To mitigate this, Bengkulu Province Regional Library and Archives Office staff are advised to limit the consumption of sugar, salt, and oil-rich items such as salted fish, canned sardines, dried shrimp, instant chili sauce, soy sauce, instant noodles, palm oil, and coconut milk in their meals.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by chronic and sustained elevations in blood glucose levels. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the most common type and is often accompanied by complications such as hypertension, anemia, and urinary tract infections. This study aims to assess the results of implementing a standardized nutritional care process in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with complications of hypertension, anemia, and urinary tract infections. This study used an observational design with a case study approach in an inpatient (Tn H, 56 years) at Harapan Doa Hospital in Bengkulu City for three days of observation. The nutritional care process included assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and monitoring and evaluation. Data collected included dietary intake, anthropometry, biochemistry, and the patient's clinical physical condition. The results showed a gradual increase in energy and protein intake during the intervention, as well as a decrease in random blood sugar levels from 363 mg/dL to 157 mg/dL. In addition, there was an improvement in clinical condition, characterized by stabilization of vital signs and a decrease in blood pressure to near normal. Thus, the implementation of standardized nutritional care through a diabetes mellitus diet and the DASH dietary approach is effective in helping improve the patient's metabolic and clinical conditions.

Abstract

Food waste is an indicator of the quality of hospital nutritional services. A high percentage of waste indicates low patient intake and may affect the nutritional status and recovery. This study was conducted in May 2025 at Harapan Dan Doa Hospital, Bengkulu City, in the Safa, Marwah, and Mina wards, where food waste exceeded the standard (<20%). This study aimed to compare the Pictorial Dietary Assessment Tool (PDAT) and Comstock methods for measuring patient food waste. A descriptive cross-sectional design was applied to 50 inpatients selected through accidental sampling method. Data were collected through observation using both methods. The Mann-Whitney test was used to analyze differences, and sensitivity and specificity were assessed using cross-tabulation. The results showed no significant differences between the two methods across all food categories (p > 0.05). PDAT was considered more accurate because it uses photographs of meals before and after consumption, making the assessment more objective. Meanwhile, Comstock relies on visual estimates, which may introduce bias. Both methods had high sensitivity (>80%), indicating good agreement. In conclusion, the PDAT and Comstock tools are suitable for evaluating patient food waste and monitoring the quality of nutrition services in hospitals.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women is a significant public health problem, especially in developing countries. Iron deficiency in pregnant women can interfere with fetal growth and maternal health. One alternative to increase hemoglobin levels is to consume local foods such as tamarillo and date palm juice, which are rich in iron and vitamin C.Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the effectiveness of consuming tamarillo and date palm juice in increasing hemoglobin levels in pregnant women with anemia based on a systematic literature review.Method: The research design is a Systematic Literature Review of articles or journals published in 2020-2024, accessed on Google Scholar, PubMed and Scopus with the Prisma Flow technique. Relevant articles were selected using the PRISMA flow technique, with the inclusion criteria being in Indonesian or English that can be accessed in full. Results: The results of the analysis of 10 articles showed that consumption of tamarillo and date palm juice significantly increased hemoglobin levels in pregnant women with anemia. The increase in hemoglobin levels ranged from 1.0-2.0 g/dL in the intervention group. Tamarillo is effective due to its vitamin C content which increases the absorption of non-heme iron, while date palm juice provides additional iron and energy to support hemoglobin formation. Conclusions: tamarillo and date palm extract have been proven effective as non-pharmacological interventions in treating anemia in pregnant women. The combination of these two ingredients can be a safe natural alternative and has the potential to increase the success of managing pregnancy anemia
