The results show that the management system of shifting cultivation conducted by local people cannot be separated from the local wisdom in the community. This is indicated by some activities which explain that phenomena such as forest clearing, land burning, land management, technology utilization, and ceremony accompanying the activities of shifting cultivation. Communities live in a harmonious relationship with forests and land, manage land in a limited area (1-2 ha) without the risk of land fires, live in communal and mutual cooperation (gotong-royong), and have local knowledge that has a positive value.JEL Classification: D19, O33, O35

Abstract

Abstract —  The role of women as farmers has existed in the history of human life for centuries. However, the Green Revolution made the role of women who were previously trusted to select seeds, weed, plant, fertilize, harvest and pound rice replaced by the role of technology. As with other designs and technologies, there has been a gender bias, so the researchers suspect that there is a gender bias in the design of agrotechnologywhich has an impact on the marginalization of female farmers. Through a literature review, researchers explored gender bias in design of agrotechnology and its impact on female farmers. Design of agrotechnology is still gender biased because it was designed without taking women's ergonomics. In fact, women have different ergonomic characteristics from men, but that does not mean they do not have the capacity to farm.  Feminization of agriculture will be a profitable job opportunity for women if it is accompanied by the feminization intervention of agricultural machine and tool. Keywords: gender bias, design, agrotechnology, agriculture, female farmer

Abstract

Previous research has shown that musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are one of the barriers for women to adopting tea-picking mechanization technology. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are defined as a group of injuries that affect the musculoskeletal system including nerves, tendons, muscles, and supporting structures. MSDs are also referred to as injuries due to overactivity or from using a device excessively. Some research results significantly show that gender greatly affects the level of risk of autonomic complaints and that women are more likely to show musculoskeletal symptoms than men. This study examines the comparison of musculoskeletal disorders due to the use of tea picking machines for male and female pickers.  Data collection on musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) complaints was carried out using the Nordic Body Map instrument, in the form of an open questionnaire by interviewing mechanical tea pickers directly. From the data obtained, the average difference in scores for male mechanical tea pickers is 5.3 while the average difference in scores for female mechanical tea pickers is 9. This means that the average female mechanical tea pickers experience musculoskeletal complaints 70% more height than male mechanical tea pickers. MSDs complaints comparison between male and female tea pickers with NBM measurement is 5:9. In conclusion, female mechanical tea pickers suffer from MSDs almost twice as much as males. Considering that the majority of tea pickers are women, gender-responsive machine design interventions are needed.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the structure of land ownership and agricultural land management strategies in the Gunungsari region and explore the socio-economic and ecological conditions that drive the selection of existing land management strategies. The case study was chosen as a research design with Gunungsari agricultural land area as the case. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with key informants, semi-structured interviews with sample farmers, field observations and documents. Data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The results of the study illustrate that dominant individual agricultural land ownership is fragmented into different plot locations with an area of less than 0.5 hectares. Perennial crop monoculture, annual intercropping, perennial crop intercropping, and mixed gardens are available agricultural land management strategies. Perennial crops as the main crops as well as edge crops are still the dominant choice of farm families, according to the internal uniqueness of each family in their interactions with external factors. This choice has consequences for the current land cover of the Gunungsari region. The actor approach that places social practice as a result of dynamic interactions between the actor's internal conditions and the context of his social-ecological environment is seen as relevant.

Abstract

Coastal areas and their natural resources have an important meaning for the economic development of the Indonesian people. This is reflected in the East Java region, which is one of the provinces rich in natural resources, both in the form of minerals and fishery products. For example in the area of Watu Coast Pecak there is potential for natural resources such as Pasir Pantai which has good quality sand for house building and this is an attraction for itself to develop. The purpose of this study was to identify the implementation of the management of Watu Pecak Beach in developing coastal resource potential at Watu Pecak Beach, identifying the role of stakeholders in the management of Watu Pecak Beach, analyzing the activities of the WatuPecak Coast community in utilizing coastal resources available at Watu Pecak Beach, and designed a Social Adapter Model for the development of coastal resource potential in Watu Pecak Beach. The data analysis used in this study used a qualitative descriptive method. The results showed that the implementation of the management of Watu Pecak Beach was still not optimal. The role of stakeholders in implementing Watu Pecak Beach is still not fully active because it is still constrained by administrative permits. The activities of the coastal communities of Watu Pantai Pecak have a variety of activities. The design of this ring circumference social adapter model is used as a frame to strengthen the institutions of coastal communities in Watu Pecak Beach.

Abstract

The aims of this research delve into the identification and analysis of key factors that influence the role of coastal women in ensuring family food security and preventing beach abrasion in Indonesia, from an ecofeminist perspective. Structural equation modeling is used to identify and analyze the influence of factors such as Role Identification (X1), Involvement and Control (X2), Coastal Women Contribution (X3), and the Influence of the Impact of the Adaptation Era (X4) on the Factors that influence the role of coastal women (Y), in food security and preventing beach abrasion in Indonesia. The research results show that coastal women farmers earn 58% more income than men. The role of coastal women in preventing beach abrasion is by 4 social movements, are Pokdarwis, Reforestation, Education, and against mangrove logging. There are 3 factors that influence the role of coastal women in food security and abrasion prevention (Y), involvement and control (X2), the contribution (X3), and the impact of the Adaptation Era (X4), with P values < alpha value (?) 0.05. The implications of this research extend beyond the Indonesian coasts, offering insights into global initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality, sustainable development, and climate change mitigation.
