Abstract

This research analyzes the phenomenon of judges' introverted attitudes as a protective mechanism for maintaining integrity in carrying out judicial functions. This introverted attitude serves as a foundation for understanding the boundaries of professional conduct for judges. The research methodology employs a literature study of statutory regulations, the Indonesian Judges' Code of Ethics and Conduct Guidelines (KEHI), and analysis of judicial ethics violation cases. The research findings indicate that judges' introverted attitudes play a crucial role in maintaining judicial independence and impartiality by creating professional distance that protects against conflicts of interest and external pressures. However, this attitude has limitations where excessive introversion may hinder access to justice and necessary communication in judicial processes. This research recommends the importance of achieving balance between appropriate professional conduct and proportional openness in carrying out judicial duties.

Abstract

Abstract

The basic rule in communicating is to respect the interlocutor so that the process of communication can run smoothly. Then, the concept of impoliteness by Culpeper (1996) appears and raises new views. Rather than protecting the face of the interlocutor, the concept of impoliteness is used to attack. In communication, impoliteness should be avoided because of its potential to cause conflict. Uniquely, impoliteness is used in the entertainment sector, such as in The Simpsons Movie. With various impoliteness strategies combined with varied implementations, impoliteness that has a negative impression becomes something entertaining. This research aims to 1) Explain the use of impoliteness strategies and 2) explain its function in The Simpsons Movie. The theories used are Culpeper (1996) and (2011), while the method is descriptive qualitative. The detailed findings are bald-on-record 14%, positive impoliteness 42%, negative impoliteness 32%, sarcasm 8%, and withhold politeness 4%, which each strategy has its uniqueness. From this study, it is found that there are various implementations, combinations of delivery, and functions of impoliteness. The use of the impoliteness function plays an important role. The utilization of affective, coercive, and entertainment functions provokes the emotions of the interlocutor and audience to make the movie interesting.

Abstract

The translation of non-academic texts as movie subtitles has its level of complexity, so translation errors often occur. An assessment is needed to maintain the quality of the translation of movie subtitles. Thus, the researchers were interested in investigating the translation quality of movie subtitles by analyzing the level of accuracy, acceptability, and readability in the translation of The Hounds of Baskerville movie subtitles. The study applieda qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The data consisted of English and Indonesian subtitle transcripts of The Hounds of Baskerville movie and the results of the research questionnaire. The research questionnaire was filled by raters whoare a graduate of an English education/English literature study program, and experienced in translating non-fiction texts. This study applied the translation quality assessment model by Nababan (2012). From the results of the assessment of each aspect, a weighting obtained score of 2.2, indicated that the translated text was less accurate, less acceptable, and less readable for the target audience. This finding underscores the importance of balancing those three criteria in a translation. It can encourage those working in the translation and subtitling industry to create subtitles that are accurate, accessible to a wide range of audiences, and culturally relevant.

Abstract

Standard time measurement of bandsaw and cross-cut machine work processes for planning and evaluating order fulfillment] The furniture industry is continuously innovating to produce the best products, with buyers' preferences related to function, quality, and design. To increase productivity, companies need to optimize machine cycle times and reformulate production time durations. Lead time needs to be optimized to ensure order fulfillment until the transaction is completed on time. In measuring productivity, standard time is critical to setting production targets, budgets, product cost estimates, and machine requirements, and determining standard operator wages to measure. Companies in the garden furniture sector need to calculate standard time in their production processes, particularly in the RST (Raw Sawn Timber) processing stage, in order to achieve on time production targets and avoid potential losses. Productivity analysis of the RST processing stage is carried out by calculating the standard time of the bandsaw and cross-cut or radial arm saw machines. The research was conducted through the motion study measurement, uniformity and sufficiency testing of data, and normal and standard time calculations to determine the required duration for each production stage. The time study measurement results and standard time calculations for 18 work elements show that the standard time in the RST processing stage is 4.92 minutes or equivalent to 12 units/hour, which means the company can ideally produce 88 unit of products per day

Abstract

Language ethics in the digital era are a crucial moral foundation for building a civilized communication civilization. Social media, as a modern public space, has shifted the function of language from a mere communication tool to a determinant of image, opinion, and social identity. However, freedom of expression is often misused as a means of spreading hate speech, sarcasm, body shaming, and hoaxes. Various studies (Rozak et al., 2023; Wijayanti et al., 2022; Ramdlanah, 2022) show that the crisis in language ethics is correlated with low digital literacy, moral degradation, and a loss of empathy in online interactions. Polite language reflects not only individual character but also national dignity. Therefore, strengthening digital literacy and language ethics education need to be integrated into the national education system as an effort to foster a civilized digital character. Amidst viral culture and the post-truth era, language ethics serves as a moral filter to maintain truth and social harmony. In conclusion, language ethics is not simply a matter of politeness, but a reflection of the nation's moral, social, and spiritual values, determining the direction of Indonesia's digital civilization.

Abstract

This article highlights the patterns of tolerance behavior among religious communities in Ngablak Village, Cluwak Sub-district, Pati District, as reflected in the practices of individual, social, and communal life. Individual awareness within a multi-religious and multicultural society constitutes the fundamental capital in constructing human attitudes and behavior. This article aims to identify the characteristics and foundations of society in practicing religious tolerance, as manifested in human attitudes and behavior, so that tolerance emerges regardless of religious background. This study is field research employing a qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Interviews were conducted with religious and community leaders in Ngablak Village and analyzed using Gadamer’s historical hermeneutic model. The results indicate that the fundamental capital of society in building religious tolerance is grounded in communal (social) awareness, religious awareness, and humanitarian awareness. Religious tolerance cannot be assessed solely from a religious perspective; rather, historical context and human values also play a significant role in shaping tolerant behavior.
