Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Medan City faces low household participation in waste sorting—only 20 % regularly—and limited integration of the informal sector, which nonetheless collects approximately 30 % of recyclable materials. This study examines the role of collaborative governance in enhancing community engagement, formalizing the contributions of waste pickers, and improving policy coordination to establish a sustainable plastic recycling system. A qualitative case study design was adopted, comprising 15 in‑depth interviews with representatives from government agencies, informal sector actors, recycling businesses, and community members; field observations at three TPS/TPA sites; and analysis of relevant policy documents. Results reveal that inadequate sorting facilities and deficient public education impede household involvement; waste pickers operate without formal incentives, leading to suboptimal participation; and overlapping institutional mandates hinder effective policy implementation. In response, an integrated education campaign with the distribution of 10000 sorting bins over six months, direct subsidies of IDR 50000 per ton for registered waste pickers, and the establishment of a quarterly cross‑sectoral coordination forum are proposed. Implementation of these measures is projected to increase sorting rates to 60 % and integrate 80 % of informal actors into the formal recycling framework.

Abstract

Fakfak Regency is one of the areas in the West Papua region consisting of a cluster of islands and Andamata Village is one of the clusters of islands with a location far from the city center of Fakfak Regency. With such geographical conditions, it is a challenge for the local government, especially PLN, to be able to distribute electrical energy properly. However, PLN as the main supplier of national energy has made developments by implementing solar power plants for areas far from the city center of Fakfak. However, to maintain the sustainability of this power plant, experts are needed who can carry out maintenance and care on the solar power plant system. Therefore, this community service activity is carried out to train local communities and youth leaders to be able to carry out maintenance and early response if there is a problem with the PLTS system. The method used in this activity is to provide material on PLTS system maintenance, carry out system maintenance practices and evaluations. Based on the results of the evaluation, the community's understanding and skills in maintaining the PLTS system are classified as very good. This can be seen from the level of understanding of participants, the average very understanding reached 28%, the understanding category with an average of 60%, the fairly understanding category with an average of 10% and the average category of not understanding reached 2%.

Abstract

Women and children’s issues in Indonesia include high rates of domestic violence and gender inequality that impact access to education, health and economic opportunities. This research aims to analyse the implementation of community development related to the impact of the role of the Central Leadership of Nasyiatul Aisyiyah’s, which is one of Muhammaidiyah’s autonomous organisations, in creating women-friendly and child-caring villages in Indonesia. This study utilized Muhtadi’s Community Development theory with indicators of participation, gender equality and justice, democracy, transparency and accountability, and sustainability. This research uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques based on observation, interviews and document studies. Data were analyzed with several tools, including Biblioshiny and Nvivo 12 Pro to obtain in-depth analysis. This study shows that Nasyiatul Aisyiah collaborates with the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Village Governments spread across 4 Provinces, 8 Districts, 16 Districts and 16 Villages in Indonesia. Overall, the role of Nasyiatul Aisyiah in running the Women-Friendly Village and Child Care programme has a positive effect on the legal protection of women and children from violence. It also provides full access to the percentage of women included in the village government system. However, in reality, not all villages in Indonesia provide a clear legal umbrella through village regulations to follow up on the Women-Friendly and Child-Caring Village programme. Therefore, the central government needs to promote Village Regulations and engage non-governmental institutions to sustain the Women-Friendly and Child-Caring Village programme.
