Abstract

Abstract

Rumen liquid is a waste product of slaughterhouse that has the potential to be a pollutant, contains lactic acid bacteria which can be used as bio preservatives in food. The purpose of this study was to identify the antimicrobial activity of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolates from rumen fluid against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria using well diffusion and disc diffusion methods and using lactic acid bacteria isolates (supernatant) and non-filtrate from rumen fluid. The main research materials used were LAB rumen fluid isolates, MRSA media (Mann Rogosa Sharpe Agar), MRSB media (Mann Rogosa Sharpe Broth), MHA media (Muller Hinton Agar), and pathogenic bacteria Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella Enteritidis. The results of the study showed that the LAB of rumen fluid carried out as an active LAB with Gram positive characteristics, round shape, negative catalase and non motile. Based on the results of testing the antimicrobial activity of lactic acid bacteria from rumen fluid isolates against pathogenic Gram positive (B. cereus and S. aureus) and Gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Salmonella Enteritidis) using well and disc diffusion methods showed that Gram negative bacteria were more sensitive to antimicrobial of LAB compared to Gram positive bacteria. The diameter of the larger inhibition zone is produced using the disc method with the inhibition zone diameter range of 13.66-28.3 mm, while the well method ranges from 0-24.2 mm. The antimicrobial activity of LAB using non filtrate BAL produce inhibition zone diameter size range of 0-26.1 mm, while the filtrate BAL produce inhibition zone diameter range of 0-28.3 mm with the optimum time to produce antimicrobial activity 48 hours compared to 24 hours after incubation.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to know resistance status of filariasis vectors from Southwest Sumba to bendiocarb 0,1% insecticide. Sampling was carried out in 4 sub-districts from 11 sub-districts. The larvae were collected randomly from water containers. The collected larvae was than taken to laboratory to be maintaned until became fully grown mosquitos. As many as 25 adult mosquitos that have been took were identified to ascertain the type of mosquito suspected to be a filariasis vectors. Test of resistance to bendiocarb 0,1% was done using impregnated paper refers to the WHO method. In this test the sample was divided into two groups, namely the test group and the control group with each sample group used was 25 mosquito. The test results were obtained by counting the number of mosquitoes that knock down mosquitoes and dead mosquitoes. The test observations were recorded every 15 minutes on the first 1 hour then the observation continued for 24 post holding. The result shows that filariasis vectors from Southwest Sumba is resisten to bendiocarb 0,1% insecticide with the average percentage of deaths mosquitos of 70,27%.

Abstract

The effects of gastrointestinal parasties on feed intake and growth is well-established. The emphasis here is on raising awareness that parasites do have effects on body compositon and meat quality atrributes. Body composition refers to the acceptable balance of lean to fat ratio when animals were parasitised or when they were free of parasites. Rejection of carcases due to parasitism is also covered. It was concluded that parasitic infections at subclinical level lead to reduced quantity and impaired quality of meat indirectly by in protein and energy intake as well as through altering and diverting of protein availability for both body maintenance in the forms of establishing resilience to infection as well as repairing of tissues damaged by parasites at sites of predilection. Ineficiency in meat production and alterations to body composition due to nematode parasitism is very much associated with alterations in nutrient absorption and utilisation.

Abstract

African swine fever (ASF) is an infectious and hemorrhagic disease that attacks pigs caused by a double-stranded DNA virus, in family Asfarviridae and genus Asfivirus. Known that vaccines and treatments for pigs infected by the virus have not been found can increase the risk of transmission in pig farms, so that biosecurity is a very important measure in reducing or minimizing the spread and prevention of the disease. The purpose of this study is to identify the types and evaluation of biosecurity application techniques on pig farms after ASF outbreak in Kupang Regency. Method of this study is used cross sectional method and descriptive analysis by conducting observational interview and data collections by filling the questionnaires. Data of this study are presented in the form of a weight processing table and a comparison table of types of biosecurity. There are three types of biosecurity, conceptual, structural and operational biosecurity. Value of the application of biosecurity of the three types of biosecurity in six farms got a good category, namely conceptual biosecurity has value of 128, structural biosecurity has value of 261, and operational biosecurity has value of 204. Evaluation the values of the three types of biosecurity in 6 pig farms has good category. This category is evidenced by the application of the three types of biosecurity by the six pig farms. Researchers suggest to increasing the application of biosecurity, especially manage the distances from residential areas by means of higher walls, making septic tanks for waste collection so that they are not environmentally friendly, providing sanitation and disinfection facilities, namely places and soap for washing hands and feet, toilet facilities, and procurement of PPE for workers.

Abstract

The outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) disease as a disease that can affect the swine has distributed in many countries including Indonesia. The Province of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) is the biggest swine population in Indonesia being risk because Timor Island directly bordered Timor Leste, which an area that affected ASF. The outbreak of ASF caused a big loss to the economy and the public's fear of consumption of pork and other swine products. The purpose of this activity is to given information about characteristics of good pork quality and appeal public to control and prevent dissemination of ASF. According to this activity, the public knowing ASF as a danger and zoonotic disease, which caused public anxiety to consumption pork and other swine products. Although the public knowing about the danger of ASF, there is no preventive action they know. This activity is a tool for breeders to prevent ASF in their animal husbandry and for the public to know that ASF, not a zoonotic disease. However, consumption of pork and other swine products infected with ASF can spread ASF continuously.
