Abstract

Waste problems in coastal areas are a serious issue affecting environmental quality and ecosystem sustainability. This study aims to identify and map waste distribution patterns by type along the coastal area of Rumah Tiga Village, Teluk Ambon District, Ambon City. The research employed a field survey with a line transect approach, supported by GPS-based spatial recording and GIS analysis. The findings reveal that waste distribution is strongly influenced by community activities, particularly around markets and residential zones, with inorganic waste dominating—soft plastics accounting for 33% and hard plastics for 17%. Meanwhile, open coastal areas were mainly filled with natural debris such as wood and leaves. These results confirm that most coastal waste originates from land-based sources rather than marine input. This research contributes essential spatial evidence for formulating more effective waste management policies, raising public awareness, and encouraging multi-stakeholder engagement in preserving coastal ecosystems. Recommendations emphasize strengthening local regulations, implementing community-based management systems, and establishing continuous educational programs at the community level

Abstract

Abstract: This article examines the involvement of Malukan nationalists in the Indonesian National Revolution, particularly in confronting the attempted re-colonisation by the Netherlands Indies Civil Administration (NICA) during the 1945–1947 period. The research employs historical methods—including archival research, primary and secondary literature studies, and narrative and social historiographical approaches—to trace the dynamics of local resistance, reflecting ideological, political, and diplomatic strategies in defending independence. The findings show that Malukan nationalists—through organisations such as PIM, PRIMA, KRIM, and PARPIM—succeeded in forming networks of struggle that transcended regional, religious, and social class boundaries, rejected colonial co-optation, and voiced the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia in both national and international forums. This resistance was not only military-based but also emphasized dimensions of identity, national solidarity, and the influence of local intellectual elites. Within the theoretical framework of postcolonial nationalism and political settlement, this study demonstrates that various active and strategic local actors and contexts shaped Indonesian nationalism. Thus, this article challenges the dominant Java-centric historiography and offers an academic contribution to the global discourse on decolonisation, national integration, and the agency of local communities in building the postcolonial state.

Abstract

The integration of interactive digital media is increasingly important in teacher education, particularly in Micro Teaching courses that aim to develop students’ basic teaching skills. However, learning media used in such courses often lack interactivity and visual engagement, limiting students’ participation and skill development. This study employed a Research and Development (RD) approach using the Borg and Gall model to develop Canva-assisted interactive learning media for a Micro Teaching course at FITK IAIN Ambon. The participants were 60 teacher education students, consisting of 20 students in a limited trial and 40 students in a large-scale trial. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, student questionnaires, and pre-test and post-test assessments. The developed media included infographics, instructional videos, and interactive quizzes aligned with Micro Teaching competencies. Expert validation indicated very high content and media validity, with scores for ease of use (85%), clarity (88%), curriculum alignment (90%), and visual design (82%). Reliability testing using the test–retest method produced coefficients ranging from 0.72 to 0.85, indicating high consistency. Descriptive analysis of learning outcomes showed increased post-test scores compared to pre-test scores across all measured indicators. In the limited trial, students’ comprehension, engagement, and motivation increased by approximately 20 points. In the large-scale trial, material comprehension improved from 70 to 92, teaching skills from 65 to 87, and student involvement from 72 to 91. The findings suggest that Canva-based interactive media are associated with improved learning outcomes and teaching skill development in Micro Teaching courses. This study highlights the potential of visually rich and interactive media to support student-centered learning in teacher education, particularly in resource-constrained higher education contexts.

Abstract

Mapping of land units in the aquifer zone is a step in water resource management and environmental impact mitigation. Aquifers are geological formations that can store and transmit water, making them the main source of groundwater that is crucial for various needs, including agriculture, industry, and domestic consumption. A deep understanding of the characteristics of land in the aquifer zone allows managers to determine the potential and limitations of water resources in the Karang Panjang area of Ambon City. In the mapping process, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology plays a key role by providing tools to collect, analyze, and visualize spatial data. The use of GIS by utilizing the Surfer application allows the identification and analysis of important parameters such as porosity, permeability, and aquifer distribution, as well as the interaction between the aquifer and the surrounding ecosystem. In addition, this mapping also helps in identifying zones that are vulnerable to contamination and over-extraction, which can endanger the sustainability of water resources. The results of land unit mapping in the aquifer zone can be used to support better decision-making in spatial planning, infrastructure development, and environmental management. This mapping is not only important for the conservation and sustainable use of water resources, but also to improve the quality of life of communities that depend on groundwater as the main source of clean water.
