Abstract

Mental health among university students is a critical issue that affects academic performance, quality of life, and overall well-being. This study aims to develop and validate the Student Mental Health Scale (SMHS), a culturally contextualized instrument designed to assess mental health status among Indonesian university students. Utilizing a quantitative, cross-sectional design, data were collected from students across nine faculties at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. The Rasch Model was employed for data analysis, providing precise and objective insights into mental health distribution. Results indicated that 19.8% of students demonstrated healthy mental status, 59.5% experienced moderate mental health concerns, and 20.6% exhibited poor mental health. These findings suggest that approximately 80% of university students require mental health support, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive campus-based interventions. Key stressors include academic pressures, social dynamics, and financial burdens, with female students showing greater vulnerability. Effective interventions, such as peer support programs and resilience training, are therefore essential. This study underscores the importance of distinguishing between universal mental health instruments and culturally adapted tools, with the SMHS filling a critical gap by providing contextually appropriate assessments that international scales cannot adequately capture in Indonesian university settings. The findings hold significant implications for mental health interventions and institutional strategies in higher education.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the Community Guidance Model on women’s empowerment in the fishing village of Nelayan, Pangandaran Regency, Indonesia. It explores how this model promotes gender equality by enhancing social support, improving resource access, and driving cultural change. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research focuses on women participating in the community guidance program, selected through purposive sampling. Data collection methods included in-depth interviews, participant observations, and analysis of program documents. Thematic analysis revealed that the Community Guidance Model significantly strengthens social support networks, grants women greater access to economic and educational resources, and fosters a shift in cultural norms that traditionally limit women’s roles. These changes enable women to take on active roles within their communities, enhancing both their welfare and social standing. The study concludes that the Community Guidance Model is an effective strategy for empowering women in fishing villages, offering a pathway to sustainable gender equity and social inclusion. These findings support the expansion of such programs to achieve lasting improvements in the well-being and agency of women across Indonesian coastal communities.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of student gratitude from the perspective of organizational culture within two prominent Islamic student organizations in South Sulawesi: IMM (Indonesian Muhammadiyah Student Association) and PMII (Indonesian Muslim Students Movement). Gratitude, as a vital attitude and value, is explored through the lens of organizational culture, which shapes how gratitude is expressed and internalized within these organizations. The research employed a saturated sampling method, involving 530 active students who held leadership or committee roles during the 2022-2023 period. Participants were selected from seven universities in South Sulawesi. Data were categorized into three levels of gratitude: low, moderate, and high. To gain deeper insights, virtual group discussions (VGD) were conducted with 6 participants, representing various levels of gratitude. The study's findings suggest that organizational culture in IMM and PMII plays a significant role in fostering gratitude, with members demonstrating appreciation through acts of kindness, volunteerism, and community service. The integration of religious and cultural values in the organizational practices of both IMM and PMII enhances the sense of collective responsibility. It supports the development of responsible, empathetic, and socially engaged citizens. This research contributes to understanding how gratitude, as a personal and collective virtue, can be cultivated within the framework of organizational culture, promoting social justice, inclusion, and the holistic development of students. The findings provide valuable insights for the development of guidance and counseling models that focus on enhancing students' gratitude in academic settings.
