Abstract

Arboretum of Riau University is a habitat whom build a one connection potential habitat for wildlife and more organism. As a supporting tool that provides useful information for various purposes, booth in terms of education, social, economic and ecology. It is necessary to support the complete data by conducting research on the animals in the Arboretum of Riau University, especially mamals, to find out the large index of diversity and richness of mammals species contained in Arboretum of Riau University. This Research held on November 2016 until Januari 2017. Method used for this research is a line transects method and trap. On research location obtained result is there 9 of mammals from 6 family founded with 63 individu that founded. The indeks of species diversity in both dry line (1,93) and wet line (1,73) was moderate. Richness indeks good varieties dry line (1,97) wet line (1,80) is low. Most of mammals on Arboretum of Riau University are animals living on forest floor (teresterial), small flying mammals are met for while research only bats and kind of living animals on canopy area crown and the middle of the canopy crown (arboreal).

Abstract

The forest-based activities in Indonesia that were judged to increase the income of the state, leading to massive decline of forest cover. Based on this, the government has established several conservation areas. One of the areas established by the government as a conservation area is the Bukit Rimbang Bukit Baling Wildlife Sanctuary. The communities surrounding the forest generally use existing forest products, especially Non Timber Forest Products (NTFPs), so it is important to know the amount of the contribution of NTFPs to the people's income. This research was conducted in Koto Lamo Village around of Bukit Rimbang Bukit Baling Wildlife Sanctuary area, Kampar Kiri Sub-district, Kampar District, Riau Province. Abstract

Tapir is a large endemic mammal on the Sumatra island, this animal is prioritized for conservation because it is categorized as an endangered species. The population is at risk of extinction >20% over a 20 year period, when no conservation efforts are made in accordance with their habitat. Tapirs can live in swamp habitats, lowlands, mountains, hilly forests, secondary forests, shrubs and palm plantations. All of the most important types of habitat are the availability of food, water and shelter. A habitat that is suitable for the survival of the tapirs is needed, such as the availability of sufficient food and an environment that supports tapirs to breed. This research aims to find out the characteristics of Asian tapir habitat (Tapirus indicus) in several types of primary forest vegetation, secondary forests and shrubs in the working area of Resort Lahai SPTN II Belilas Bukit Tiga puluh National Park and surrounding areas in Riau Province. This research was conducted using purposive sampling method by determining the characteristics of tapir habitat. The characteristic of tapir habitats in TNBT and surrounding areas in the three vegetation are the closure of tree headers in the bush 0%, secondary forests 3.63%-54.21% and primary forests 4.37%-85.66%. Availability of feed plants in primary forests 3.03%-83.33%, secondary forests 39.13%-100.00%, shrubs 50.00%-100.00%. The characteristic of tapir habitats in primary forests, Secondary forests and shrubs include low land with topography ramps up to rather steep, distances with natural forests from primary forests are 633.54 m-1,155.00 m, secondary forests 1,253.32 m-1,791.76 m and shrubs 1,539.76 m-1,985.14 m. Distance by river from secondary forest 100.84 m-325.95 m, primary forest 126.58 m-290.99 m and shrub 111.33 m-356.04 m.

Abstract

The Indonesian government is committed to reducing carbon and greenhouse gas emissions through the Forestry and Other Land Uses (FOLU) Net-Sink 2030 scheme. Efforts that can be made to support the FOLU Net-Sink 2030 is by knowing the carbon storage potential in a forest area. This research aims to calculate the amount of potential biomass carbon storage in the talang forest. The methods used in this research are non-destructive sampling and destructive sampling. The method with destructive sampling for seedlings, understorey and litters, while for saplings, poles, trees and necromass with non-destructive sampling method. The calculation results showed that carbon stocks were trees (77.76 tons/ha), poles (9.56 tons/ha), saplings (7.99 tons/ha), seedlings and understorey (0.65 tons/ha), litters (1.20 tons/ha) and necromass (2.39 tons/ha). Aboveground carbon storage in the talang forest was found to be 99.56 tons/ha. The total aboveground carbon storage potential of the gutter forest was 7,933 tons of carbon.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the potential and utilization of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) in TAHURA sultan syarif hasyim, Minas District, Riau Province. The research method is a survey method, with objects of forest area and the community around the forest. The data taken is primary data, namely the type of vegetation that has the potential to produce NTFPs and respondent profile data as well as their interest and to develop NTFPs. While secondary data in the form of conditions Tahura sultan syarif hasyim, Minas District, Riau Province and other supporting data. The results of all data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively. Interviews and answers to questionnaires from communities around the forest found 21 types of NTFPs that were utilized by the community. Only 18 respondents were aware of the potential of NTFPs, out of a total of 35 respondents. 21 types of NTFPs are utilized with various functions and benefits, such as food, medicine, and industrial raw materials. It can be concluded that the potential of NTFPs in the Minas Tahura Model KPHP is 21 species with different levels of diversity and dominance as well as different benefits and utilization of NTFPs utilized by communities around Tahura, namely wood, rattan, honey, fruits and resin resin.

Abstract

Timor deer (Cervus timorensis) is the second largest tropical deer after sambar. Compared to other Indonesian tropical deer, the timor deer (Cervus timorensis) is unique in that it is a deer that has many sub species, with a wide spread area. Timor deer (Cervus timorensis) are widely bred in various locations because they have high economic value, in which all parts can be utilized. The potential of timor deer can be developed as part of environmental services that have high value as recreational objects. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of timor deer feed (Cervus timorensis) at the University of Riau and determine the production of timor deer feed (Cervus timorensis) at the University of Riau. The study was conducted at a prospective location for timor deer breeding (Cervus timorensis), Riau University campus covering an area of approximately 2.07 ha. Sampling was carried out using a plot of 41 plots, with a size of 1 m x 10 m. Riau University has potential as a location for timor deer breeding (Cervus timorensis). Production of all types of deer feed in captive breeding sites amounted to 2,878.67 gr/m.
