Abstract

Islamic universities have been accused of being the milieu of the growing movement of radicalism along with the new facts about the involvement of two state Islamic universities among 10 state universities involved in radicalism. The campus management has responded to the movement by developing a religious curriculum and interreligious-based learning to improve religious literacy competence. This paper aims to evaluative the practice of religious curriculum and literacy as a strategy in improving counterradicalism in campus. The interviews, observations, and data analysis resulted in the finding that the religious curriculum development with open minded principles, religious universality, local wisdom, and humanism values in the learning activities in either classroom and or places of worship of other religions can foster good counterradicalism and interfaith literacy and eliminate the evolution of radical attitudes among students. This paper suggested that the learning of religious education in campuses and schools include observation to the areas of interreligious activities and religious literacy studies to improve students' understanding of religious values among religious communities, so tolerance and counterradicalism can be fostered.

Abstract

The integration between creative and innovative logic and the concept of bid’ah within the management of Islamic education, particularly in the context of modernization. Using a qualitative approach through literature review and field research conducted at MA Miftahul Ulum Subang, the study reveals that creativity and innovation are strategic necessities for both instructional and managerial development in Islamic educational institutions in the digital era. Questionnaire data indicate that the majority of students (87–93%) positively accept technology-based innovations in Islamic education and do not perceive them as conflicting with Islamic values. Interviews with teachers and the principal show that innovation is only considered bid’ah when it interferes with ritual worship (ibadah mahdhah), whereas innovations in management, curriculum, and technology fall under the permissible domain of muamalah. The study concludes that Islamic educational management must integrate creative and innovative thinking with core Islamic principles through the framework of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah and the classical guideline al-muḥāfaẓah ‘alā al-qadīm al-ṣāliḥ wa al-akhdzu bi al-jadīd al-aṣlaḥ. Findings provide a model for how Islamic educational institutions can modernize effectively without falling into reprehensible bid’ah.

Abstract

This study explores how Islamic education managers experience and manage complexity and ambiguity in the era of digital disruption through reflective, value-based practices. Digital transformation has intensified tensions between technological adaptation and the preservation of Islamic ethical and spiritual foundations within educational governance. These tensions often manifest as policy uncertainty, generational gaps, and challenges in aligning technology with institutional identity. This research adopts a qualitative phenomenological design and is conducted in selected Islamic boarding schools, using in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. Data were analysed through iterative processes of data condensation, thematic display, and verification to capture the essence of managerial lived experiences. The findings reveal that value-based management grounded in tauhid, amanah, justice, and maslahah provides a stable framework for navigating uncertainty. Curriculum integration and human resource management emerge as ongoing epistemological and axiological negotiations rather than fixed administrative procedures. Musyawarah and philosophical reflection function as central adaptive mechanisms, enabling collective sense-making, ethical deliberation, and contextual responses to digital challenges. Technology is positioned as a supportive means for education and da‘wah, not as a determinant of institutional direction. This study contributes by reconceptualising Islamic education management as an interpretive and ethical practice and recommends strengthening reflective leadership and dialogical governance to sustain adaptive capacity.

Abstract

The transformation of Islamic values into the management system of modern Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) is a crucial issue because Islamic boarding schools are required to maintain their Islamic identity while simultaneously fulfilling the need for effective, transparent, and adaptive educational governance. Previous studies generally discuss Islamic boarding school modernization, character building, or educational quality, but have not specifically explained how Islamic values are translated into the structure of policies, administration, learning, student development, and the institution's work culture. This study focuses on how the values of trustworthiness, sincerity, discipline, deliberation, responsibility, courtesy, and exemplary behavior are transformed into the management system of the Al-Musyarrofah Modern Islamic Boarding School. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design at the Al-Musyarrofah Modern Islamic Boarding School. Data were collected through interviews with foundation administrators, boarding school leaders, teachers, administrators, students, and alumni, as well as through observations of Islamic boarding school activities and documentation studies of rules and regulations, activity schedules, development records, and administrative documents. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, triangulation, and conclusion drawing. The research findings indicate that the transformation of Islamic values occurs through the institutionalization of values into policies, daily practices, teacher role models, institutional deliberations, and administrative services. This study recommends strengthening value evaluation indicators and expanding the study to other Islamic boarding schools so that the values-based management model can be tested more comparatively

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of an integrative curriculum in shaping students' spiritual character at Modern Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren) Al Ma'soem, Bandung. The background of this research is the persistent dichotomy between religious and general sciences in Islamic education, which often weakens the internalization of spiritual values. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving curriculum leaders, teachers, and students. The findings reveal that the integrative curriculum at Al Ma'soem is implemented by unifying the national curriculum and pesantren curriculum within a value-based educational framework grounded in the Qur'an and Sunnah. Spiritual values are integrated into academic learning, daily religious practices, and the boarding school culture. The results indicate positive changes in students' spiritual awareness, discipline in worship, moral responsibility, and their ability to perceive learning activities as part of worship. The discussion shows that the success of the integrative curriculum is strongly supported by structured spiritual habituation, teacher exemplarity, and value-based leadership. In conclusion, the integrative curriculum contributes significantly to the development of students' spiritual character and offers an effective model for Islamic educational institutions in responding to contemporary educational challenges while maintaining their religious identity.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of correlation of the neoliberal paradigm in the management of Islamic educational institutions, particularly the relationship between the neoliberal paradigm, value orientation, and management practices. In contemporary educational management discourse, neoliberalism emphasizes the principles of efficiency, accountability, competition, and performance orientation, which have the potential to influence the governance of educational institutions, including Islamic boarding schools. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the neoliberal paradigm and value orientation and managerial practices at the Darul Falah Islamic Boarding School in West Bandung. The study used a quantitative approach with a survey method using a questionnaire compiled based on research variable indicators. The research sample consisted of 35 respondents selected using probability sampling techniques. Data analysis was performed using SPSS through the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and the Spearman Rank nonparametric correlation test. The results showed that the neoliberal paradigm has a positive and significant relationship with value orientation (r = 0.401; Sig = 0.017), but has a weak and insignificant positive relationship with management practices (r = 0.308; Sig = 0.072). In addition, value orientation has a strong and significant relationship with management practices (r = 0.682; Sig = 0.000). These findings indicate that the influence of neoliberalism is selective, where Islamic educational values remain a dominant factor in the management practices of Islamic educational institutions

Abstract

Islamic education in Indonesia is increasingly confronted with neoliberal governance that emphasizes efficiency, accountability, and competitiveness, potentially marginalizing its spiritual mission. This study aims to examine how neoliberal control mechanisms and knowledge capitalism operate in madrasah governance and how Islamic educational values respond to these pressures. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach with a single case study design, the research was conducted at MTsS Al-Maziyyah Cilaku, Cianjur Regency. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, documentation, and indirect observation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings reveal that accreditation systems, national assessments, performance reporting, and bureaucratic supervision significantly shape institutional management, reflecting neoliberal control and knowledge commodification. The madrasah demonstrates adaptive capacity by internalizing Islamic values such as amanah, ihsan, and ikhlas as ethical foundations of managerial practice. This study concludes that Islamic educational institutions are not passive recipients of neoliberal pressure but active agents capable of negotiating it through “managerial soft resistance.” The study contributes theoretically by enriching Islamic educational management discourse with an empirical model that integrates spirituality, professionalism, and critical engagement with neoliberal education policies.
