Abstract

Transformational leadership is a style focused on change and the development of positive values within educational institutions. The principal, as a leader in learning, has the duty to direct all members of the school towards developing a robust religious and disciplined character. Nonetheless, observations conducted in various elementary schools in Central Lombok Regency reveal that the application of transformational leadership values remains limited, particularly concerning the principals' roles as religious role models and their discipline. This community service initiative seeks to offer transformational leadership support to elementary school principals in Central Lombok to cultivate a religious and disciplined character in school administration. The activity method is executed in four stages: (1) preparation and collaboration with the local education office, (2) training and workshops in transformational leadership, (3) direct support at schools, and (4) assessment and reflection on the outcomes of the activity. This initiative engaged 35 elementary school principals from Praya District, Central Lombok over a period of three day. The activity's outcomes demonstrated a notable improvement in the principals' comprehension of transformational leadership, their capacity to create a vision and mission rooted in religious values, and their consistency in enforcing work discipline within the school setting. Moreover, a network of key communities was established aimed at enhancing religious culture and discipline within their individual schools. This mentoring initiative showcased the success of a transformational leadership style as a character-development strategy for elementary school principals in Central Lombok. There are hopes that comparable initiatives can persistently evolve in a sustainable manner to enhance the quality of leadership and educational administration at the primary school level.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of formal Islamic education in character development among students in the Wetu Telu indigenous community in Lombok. The Wetu Telu community has a unique belief system and traditions, a blend of Islamic values with deeply rooted animist and Hindu practices. This situation presents unique challenges for formal Islamic educational institutions in instilling Islamic values while respecting the local wisdom that exists within the community. This study uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods to explore in depth how schools or madrasahs formulate learning strategies, integrate Islamic religious education curricula, and build harmonious relationships between normative Islamic values and Wetu Telu traditions. The results indicate that formal Islamic education plays a significant role in shaping students' character through a dialogical and accommodative approach, not eliminating local traditions but instead serving as a bridge for internalizing moral values, honesty, responsibility, and religiosity. However, various structural and cultural barriers remain that need to be addressed for the character development process to be optimal and sustainable.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate junior high school (SMP) students' mathematics learning using the APIPA (Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Product, and Appreciation) evaluation model. The APIPA model is used as a comprehensive evaluation framework to assess the quality of mathematics learning processes and outcomes. This study used a quantitative approach with a survey method of 157 junior high school student respondents in North Lombok Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire instrument and analyzed using the Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach through the SmartPLS application. The results showed that all stages of the APIPA model had a positive and significant effect on the quality of junior high school students' mathematics learning. Thus, the APIPA model is considered effective and relevant as an evaluation model for mathematics learning at the junior high school level

Abstract

This research examines the process of internalizing Islamic education through the Jamaah Tabligh movement in shaping the religious character of the Wetu Telu indigenous community in Bayan, Lombok. The Wetu Telu community is an indigenous community with unique Islamic practices, blending local traditions with Islamic teachings. The presence of the Jamaah Tabligh movement, as a transnational da'wah (Islamic missionary) movement, has significantly influenced the transformation of religious understanding and practices among the local community. This research aims to analyze the da'wah strategies of Jamaah Tabligh in internalizing Islamic educational values, identify the dynamics of interaction between normative Islamic teachings and Wetu Telu local traditions, and evaluate the impact of the movement on the formation of the community's religious character. A qualitative approach using ethnographic methods was employed to collect data through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document studies. The results show that Jamaah Tabligh applies a persuasive and cultural approach in the process of internalizing Islamic education, emphasizing practical worship, noble morals, and purification of faith. This internalization process faces challenges in the form of cultural resistance and concerns about the loss of local identity. However, cultural negotiation occurs, resulting in a synthesis between universal Islamic values and local wisdom. The impact of this movement is evident in increased awareness of worship, strengthening of community morals, and a gradual shift in religious practices towards a more orthodox understanding of Islam, although some members of the community still maintain elements of Wetu Telu tradition as part of their cultural identity.

Abstract

This research examines the socio-cultural negotiation processes that facilitate accommodation between Islam and indigenous customs in the learning practices of the Wetu telu community in Bayan, North Lombok. Using a qualitative ethnographic approach, this study examines how the Wetu telu indigenous community negotiates Islamic values with local wisdom, strategies employed by internal community actors in accommodating Islamic implementation, and the development of a contextual Islamic model that respects local wisdom while maintaining Islamic authenticity. The findings reveal three main strategic approaches: (1) elite power approach through structural negotiation with traditional leaders, (2) emotional approach through relationship building and interpersonal trust, and (3) cultural approach through integration of Islamic teachings into local traditions without negating cultural identity. This research produces a multidimensional accommodation model that enables the integration of Islamic values within indigenous social systems while maintaining cultural integrity. The resulting framework demonstrates that effective Islamic implementation in indigenous communities requires recognition of existing cultural knowledge systems and integration of religious teachings within traditional learning processes. This model provides a practical framework for developing contextual Islamic integration that can be applied in other regions with similar characteristics, emphasizing the role of internal community actors as primary agents of change who ensure religious transformation emerges from within existing social structures.

Abstract

This study examines the patterns of family conflict resolution practiced by the Sesait Customary Law Community (Wet Sesait) in North Lombok. Using a legal sociology approach with qualitative methods, this research analyzes the integration between Tau Lokaq Empat (the traditional leadership structure) and the Majelis Krama Desa (MKD) in resolving family conflicts. Tau Lokaq Empat consists of four pillars: Mangku Gumi (traditional/adat leader), Jintaka (socio-economic leader), Penghulu (religious leader), and Pemusungan (governmental leader). The MKD, established under North Lombok Regent Regulation No. 20 of 2017, functions as a formal village institution integrating three legal systems: positive law, customary law, and religious law. Research findings reveal that conflict resolution follows a structured yet flexible procedure involving complaint submission, victim-centered verification, formal meetings integrating all four Tau Lokaq Empat pillars, and participatory mediation that synthesizes positive law, customary, and religious perspectives. The binding force of MKD decisions derives from dual legitimacy: formal legal legitimacy through the regent's regulation and socio-cultural legitimacy through the involvement of Tau Lokaq Empat. This integrative model demonstrates constructive legal pluralism in practice, where different legal systems function as complementary resources that create comprehensive and contextual justice, rather than competing entities. This study contributes to understanding how indigenous communities maintain traditional conflict resolution mechanisms while adapting to formal legal systems, offering important lessons for victim-centered restorative justice approaches
