Abstract

This study analyzes the research methodology of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) from the epistemological perspective of Karl R. Popper, particularly the principle of falsification, to develop critical rationalism. The findings show that integrating falsification into PAI research can enhance scientific validity through critique, hypothesis testing, and continuous theory improvement, enabling Islamic education scholarship not only to legitimize religious values but also to develop them scientifically. The implications of this study include the need to reformulate PAI research methodology, strengthen curricula based on critical epistemology, and foster an academic culture that is open to correction positioning Popper’s epistemology as a bridge between Western scientific traditions and Islamic spirituality for the advancement of progressive and contextual Islamic education.

Abstract

Modern educational systems frequently emphasize cognitive outcomes, often at the expense of moral and spiritual development, resulting in graduates who may be academically adept yet ethically or spiritually unfulfilled. This study aims to reconstruct a holistic educational paradigm inspired by the pedagogical philosophies of three Islamic intellectuals—Al-Ghazali, Ibn Qayyim Al-Jauziyah, and Az-Zarnuji—by examining their conceptualizations of purposive learning, moral cultivation, and the role of the educator. Using a qualitative literature review method, the research analyzes primary classical texts and compares their holistic framework with Western holistic educational traditions such as Waldorf and the Humboldtian model. The findings reveal a tripartite pedagogical structure: spiritual purification (tazkiyat al-nafs), ethical integrity as a safeguard against intellectual hubris, and etiquette-infused teacher–student dynamics. These elements, when synthesized with Western models that prioritize creativity, individuality, and interdisciplinary growth, offer a robust paradigm for integrated human development. Ultimately, this framework proposes an education reoriented toward cognitive, ethical, and spiritual wholeness

Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance teachers’ competencies in implementing mathematics instruction oriented toward the development of students’ critical thinking skills through training on the RHOMI (Realistic and Holistic Mathematics Integration) model. The program was conducted at SMPN 8 Kota Sungai Penuh using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, positioning teachers as active participants throughout all stages of the program, including planning, action, observation, and reflection. The PAR approach was selected to ensure that the training was participatory, contextual, and sustainable, in line with teachers’ actual classroom needs. The results indicated an improvement in teachers’ understanding of realistic and holistic mathematics learning, as well as a shift in instructional practices from procedural teaching toward more dialogical, reflective, and critical-thinking-oriented learning. Teachers were able to design RHOMI-based instructional materials that integrated real-life contexts with mathematical concepts in a coherent manner. Furthermore, the program fostered collaboration and reflective practices among teachers. Therefore, the PAR-based RHOMI training proved to be an effective community service strategy for improving the quality of mathematics instruction and enhancing students’ critical thinking skills

Abstract

This study examines the political-social historiography of Islamic education in Minangkabau, focusing on the transmission of knowledge and the concept of talaqqī in the formation of the Islamic scholarly tradition in the Indonesian archipelago. The study aims to trace, reconstruct, and interpret the historical dynamics of Islamic education in Minangkabau within the context of socio-politics and the transmission of knowledge. This study adopts a qualitative approach with historiography and literature review. Through a historical-critical literature review approach, this study analyzes the dynamics of Islamic education from the 17th to the 20th century, starting from the traditional surau system to modern madrasahs such as Sumatera Thawalib and Diniyah School. The results of the study show that Islamic education in Minangkabau not only functions as a religious institution but also as a socio-political arena in shaping the intellectual awareness and Islamic identity of the community. The concept of talaqqī becomes the epistemological foundation of knowledge transmission, which guarantees the authority and blessings of knowledge through the spiritual relationship between teacher and student. In the modern context, talaqqī has been recontextualized into a system of values and scientific ethics that is relevant to the development of contemporary Islamic education. This study confirms that Islamic education in Minangkabau is a manifestation of the dialectic between tradition and modernity, as well as an integrative model of Islamic education based on sanad, spirituality, and rationality.

Abstract

The industrial era brought profound transformations in the social, economic, and educational order, while presenting serious challenges to the formation of character and morals. The dominance of the logic of efficiency, instantaneousness, and individualism has the potential to erode the foundations of moral values that are transcendent and require a long-term internalization process. This research aims to analyze the impact of changes in industrial civilization on the construction of moral values, identify the basic principles of Islamic education in character formation, and explore its role as a mechanism of social transformation in the midst of secular paradigm hegemony. Using the library research method, this study analyzes primary sources of classical Islam—such as the thought of Ibn Miskawaih and al-Ghazali—as well as secondary sources in the form of scientific journals and contemporary studies. The findings show that Islamic education offers a holistic framework that places morality as the main axis of tarbiyah, not just a curricular complement. Principles such as tazkiyat al-nafs, uswah hasanah, and the integration of knowledge-charity-morals remain relevant when reinterpreted contextually in the digital ecosystem. More than that, Islamic education has the potential to be a balancing force that reconstructs the relationship between technology, ethics, and social responsibility, thus ensuring that the progress of civilization remains on the side of a whole humanity

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of student delinquency within elite boarding schools, challenging the dominant assumption that prestigious educational institutions inherently guarantee holistic student development. Using a qualitative exploratory case study design, research was conducted in three upper-class boarding schools in Indonesia. Data were collected over a three-month period through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis, involving 29 participants consisting of students, teachers, dormitory supervisors, counselors, and parents. Thematic analysis was employed to identify recurring patterns and underlying meanings in participants’ lived experiences. The findings reveal four interconnected themes: symbolic pressure within dormitory environments, student resistance to institutional rules, cold and functional patterns of parental communication, and delinquency as a form of identity expression. Symbolic competition related to lifestyle, family background, and social status shapes peer interactions and generates psychosocial strain. Institutional discipline, while designed to foster excellence, may unintentionally restrict identity exploration, leading students to express autonomy through rule-breaking behaviors. Furthermore, achievement-oriented and emotionally distant parenting patterns contribute to feelings of alienation and limited affective support. The study integrates sociological, psychological, and Islamic educational perspectives to interpret delinquency as a relational and structural response rather than mere deviance. The findings suggest that elite educational settings require a balanced approach that integrates academic rigor, moral cultivation, and emotional well-being. This research contributes to broader discussions on educational quality by highlighting the need to reconsider how prestige, discipline, and family expectations shape adolescent development in competitive schooling environments.

Abstract

This community engagement program aims to strengthen the political awareness of party cadres through the integration of the Baddeley–James model and the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach in Kerinci Regency. The primary issue addressed is the limited analytical capacity of cadres in understanding power dynamics, alongside suboptimal ethical political behavior. A participatory method was employed using the ABCD cycle (discovery, dream, design, define, and destiny), combined with training in reading and carrying skills. The results indicate significant improvements in political understanding, active participation, and behavioral transformation toward more critical, reflective, and ethical political practices. Participants were also able to apply these competencies in field activities, particularly in capturing public aspirations and formulating policy recommendations. Furthermore, the program produced a training module and an ABCD-based political awareness model with replication potential. These findings highlight that integrating cognitive and participatory approaches is effective in fostering political behavior transformation and strengthening substantive local democratic practices

Abstract

This study examines students’ acceptance of the Academic Information System Platform (SIAKAD) at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Kerinci by extending the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) with the construct of scientific sanad. Using a quantitative cross-sectional survey design, data were collected from 306 active students selected through purposive sampling and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4. The findings indicate that students’ acceptance of SIAKAD is generally moderate to high. Attitude Toward Using was the strongest predictor of Behavioral Intention to Use (β = 0.618; p < 0.001), while Sanad Urgency significantly influenced Perceived Ease of Use (β = 0.726; p < 0.001), Perceived Usefulness (β = 1.358; p < 0.001), and Behavioral Intention to Use (β = 0.190; p = 0.008). Conversely, Self-Efficacy showed a significant negative effect on Perceived Usefulness (β = −0.436; p < 0.001). These results suggest that integrating scientific sanad into academic platforms is not merely a technical innovation but also an epistemological need in Islamic higher education. This study contributes to TAM literature by incorporating Islamic scholarly authority into technology acceptance research and offers practical implications for developing a Digital Sanad feature in SIAKAD.

Abstract

Talaqqi, a classical face-to-face method of transmitting Islamic knowledge that emphasizes sanad authenticity and meaningful teacher-student relationships, constitutes the cornerstone of traditional Islamic pedagogy. This study maps the intellectual structure and research landscape of talaqqi in international literature through a hybrid Systematic Literature Review and bibliometric analysis of 24 Scopus-indexed documents published between 2013 and 2026. Employing the PRISMA 2020 protocol along with VOSviewer and Biblioshiny, the findings reveal talaqqi as an emerging research field experiencing a significant paradigmatic shift. While remaining firmly rooted in classical principles of sanad, Qur’anic education, and interpersonal pedagogy, the literature demonstrates an inductive emergence of technology, digital platforms, and automated classification models. The study highlights substantial opportunities for hybrid learning frameworks that integrate traditional talaqqi practices with artificial intelligence and digital tools while preserving epistemological integrity. These results offer important theoretical contributions and practical implications for the development of technology-enhanced Islamic pedagogy in higher education institutions.
