Abstract

water samples used were taken from three coastal areas of Aceh, namely Tibang, Uleelheue, and Kaju. Water is taken from 3 different water sources for each area of the region. Initial measurements were made for distilled water to see the accuracy of using a hollow prism made of commercial glass. The water sample is inserted into a hollow prism made of commercial glass with an angle of 450. The helium-neon laser beam with a wavelength of 564 nm is directed to the hollow prism so that it undergoes refraction. The measurement results on the distilled water sample obtained a refractive index of 1.33, the result is the same as the measurement using the Abbe refractometer. Meanwhile, the measurement results found that the refractive index of water taken from water sources in the coastal area has a relatively similar index of refraction. The refractive index of water taken from three coastal areas ranged from 1.341 to 1.349. The value of the refractive index of water is also affected by the level of mineral content and the level of saltiness

Abstract

Cultural sites are important historical relics. Damage to cultural sites or artifacts is triggered by various factors. High levels of salinity in the soil or environment of cultural sites can be one of the triggers. Another factor can be soil pH which is related to the level of acidity and salinity of the soil. For this reason, it is important to monitor soil quality in cultural site areas to anticipate damage to cultural sites. This research aims to measure soil pH in the Malikussaleh cultural heritage site area and map soil quality conditions (pH and temperature) in the Malikussaleh cultural heritage area. The research location is in the Malikussaleh cultural heritage area in Samudera subdistrict. This research is a type of basic research with a quantitative approach. In this study, pH and temperature of soil were measured using pH meter and thermometer, respectively. The pH and soil temperature data obtained were interpreted based on correlation with regional conditions. Based on the measurement results, the soil in the Malikussaleh site area has an acidity level in the range of weak base and high acid (pH 4.5-7).

Abstract

Flash floods are a hydrometeorological disaster that frequently strikes Indonesia, including East Aceh. Their impacts include not only physical damage but also social and economic disruption to residents. This article describes a community service activity involving the distribution of community donations to flash flood survivors in Pante Bidari District. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this article analyzes the process of collecting, managing, and distributing aid and links it to theoretical findings in the scientific literature on disaster management, social solidarity, and community resilience. The literature review indicates that local community involvement significantly influences the effectiveness of disaster management (Hariyal & Anhar, 2015); (Faiz, 2025) The results of this activity indicate that community-based aid distribution can accelerate the fulfillment of basic needs, strengthen social networks, and increase the social resilience of affected communities. Thus, this activity confirms that strengthening solidarity among residents is a crucial component in disaster emergency response. Community-based aid distribution not only ensures targeted assistance but also fosters a spirit of mutual cooperation that strengthens long-term social resilience.

Abstract

This study is motivated by low levels of self-efficacy and learning achievement among students in General Chemistry, which are often associated with the material's abstract nature and the limited use of active learning approaches. This study aims to examine differences in students’ self-efficacy and learning outcomes between the Case-Based Learning (CBL) model and the Direct Instruction (DI) model. The study employed an intact-group comparison (quasi-experimental) design involving 44 students from the Chemistry Education Program at Malikussaleh University, divided into an experimental group (CBL) and a control group (DI). Research instruments included a self-efficacy questionnaire and a multiple-choice posttest. The results revealed statistically significant differences between the two groups in both self-efficacy (t = 13.715; p < .001) and learning outcomes (t = 8.793; p < .001). Students in the CBL group obtained higher mean scores in self-efficacy (72.86) and learning outcomes (83.27) compared to those in the DI group. These findings indicate that Case-Based Learning is associated with higher self-efficacy and better learning outcomes in General Chemistry. The study suggests that CBL can be considered an alternative instructional approach to support active and contextual learning in science education.
