Abstract

The Community Service Program was carried out at the Harapan Farmers Group, Kereng Bangkirai Sub-district, Palangka Raya City, as an effort to provide innovative solutions to pest attack problems that often reduced fruit farm productivity. Previously, farmers had relied on manual pesticide spraying, which required considerable time, labor, and cost, and posed health risks. To address this challenge, the service team from the University of Palangka Raya developed an automated pest control system that was able to regulate pesticide spraying independently and efficiently. The activities were conducted through stages of socialization, training, and system mapping of automation in the fruit farm area, involving members of the farmers group actively. The implementation results showed an increase in participants’ understanding of the technology by 30–40 percent, improved efficiency in pesticide use by up to one-third compared to manual methods, and a reduction in working time by nearly 50 percent. This activity not only improved farmers’ skills and productivity but also served as a concrete step toward the implementation of sustainable smart farming in Palangka Raya through collaboration between the university and the community.

Abstract

Turmeric contains the active compound curcumin, which has been studied for its various biological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and immunomodulatory properties. Kaffir lime is a plant commonly found on the island of Borneo and is used in traditional medicine and culinary flavors. Kaffir lime fruit and leaves contain various bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids (hesperidin, naringenin), essential oils (citronellal, limonene), and vitamin C. Flavonoids are known to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that can boost the immune system. Pills are one of the oldest dosage forms in the pharmaceutical world and are still relevant, especially for herbal preparations due to their ease of manufacture and stability. This study aims to formulate pill preparations by combining turmeric and lime juice. The method used is wet granulation to make pills with varying turmeric concentrations, namely F1 0.26% and F2 0.52% using polyvinyl alcohol as a binder. Physical evaluations include water content, weight uniformity, pH, and disintegration time tests. The pills were then tested for antioxidant activity against DPPH. The results showed that the water content of F1 pills was 4.06% and F2 pills 3.75%, pill weight uniformity with RSD value criteria of F1 was 0.21% and F2 pills 3.40%, the average pH of F1 was 6.32 and F2 pills 6.22, and the disintegration time of F1 was 30 minutes and F2 pills 8.26 minutes. The results of the antioxidant activity of the pill preparations showed that the F1 IC50 was 6.36 ppm and the F2 IC50 was 5.53 ppm. From the results obtained, it can be concluded that F2 pill preparations have good physical properties and potential antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Citrus aurantifolia (Christm.) Swingle lime peel, widely discarded as agricultural waste in Kediri, East Java, Indonesia, is a promising source of bioactive compounds for antibacterial applications. Quality standardization of herbal materials is prerequisite for reproducible pharmacological activity, yet comprehensive physicochemical and microbiological characterization of lime peel simplicia from this region has not been reported. This study aimed to characterize the dried powder of C. aurantifolia lime peel collected from Kediri according to Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia (IHP) standards, including microbial quality parameters (Total Aerobic Plate Count/ALT and Mold-Yeast Count/AKK), and to conduct phytochemical profiling of both simplicia and the ethanolic extract. Lime peels were cleaned, dried at 40–50°C, powdered, and characterized for water content (8.64%), water-soluble extract (26.67%), ethanol-soluble extract (18.14%), total ash (5.62%), acid-insoluble ash (0.35%), ALT (3.5 × 10³ CFU/g), and AKK (1.2 × 10² CFU/g)—all within IHP requirements. Phytochemical screening detected alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, tannins, and steroids/triterpenoids in both simplicia and extract. These findings establish a standardized pharmacognostic profile supporting the use of Kediri-sourced lime peel extract in evidence-based antibacterial research.
