Abstract

Lam Ujong Village is one of the villages in the Baitussalam sub-district of Aceh Besar Regency. The majority of people in this coastal area work as salt farmers to support their livelihoods. Despite the abundant salt production, it has not significantly increased the community's income, as salt processing is limited to selling salt directly to consumers. Processing sea salt into creative, economically valuable products has not been pursued due to a lack of innovation and skills. Sea salt is rich in minerals with great potential to be utilized as a key raw material in producing spa salts and liquid soap. This community service activity will be conducted in Lam Ujong Village in 2024, in partnership with a group of salt farmers. The project will be carried out in three stages: pre-activities (socialization and initial preparation for educational activities), main activities (training and technical guidance on producing environmentally friendly spa salt and liquid soap), and post-activities (evaluation of results). The program results demonstrated a significant improvement in the technical skills and understanding of salt farmers regarding the production process of spa salts and liquid soap. This success highlights that well-targeted technology transfer can be a key driver in the economic transformation of local communities while promoting more sustainable natural resource management. Abstract

Tabam waters are waters in Ternate City where the average population works as fishermen using gillnet fishing gear with the target fish being tuna (Eutynnus affinis) locally called Tongkol. Fishing activities in this area are generally carried out around FADs. Fishing that is carried out on an increasing basis and accompanied by an increase in gillnet fishing gear can endanger the sustainability of mackarel tuna/ tuna fish/komo tuna. Therefore, to maintain the sustainability of tuna fish resources in Tabam waters, an assessment of the biological status is needed which includes the structure of length, weight, circumference, growth patterns, and age groups. Establish guidelines for fishermen on the appropriate size of tuna to be harvested in order to preserve the sustainability of the tuna population. This research was conducted in December 2018-March 2019, using a sample size of 200 fish, using a survey method. The survey was conducted by examining the technical characteristics of gillnet fishing gear, FAD aids, and tuna catches. The results showed that the average fish caught was gilled with an isometric growth form and the average age group of tuna fish was around 21.7 cm, 17.2 cm, 18.9 cm, and 21.0 cm.Keywords:GillnetFADSAsessingKomoTunaTabam

Abstract

This community service program was conducted in Gampong Umong Seuribee, Aceh Besar, to address the underutilization of abundant local papaya harvests, which were traditionally sold raw at low prices. The program aimed to revitalize and commercialize papaya as a value-added product through the production of papaya chips, thereby improving household income and fostering local entrepreneurship. Twenty-five women participated in training sessions covering hygienic food processing, appropriate use of drying and frying equipment, packaging design, and basic marketing strategies. The activities employed a participatory approach, combining demonstrations, hands-on practice, and mentoring. Results showed a significant increase in participants skills, with over 90% mastering production techniques and more than 80% ready to market the product. The initiative successfully established a distinctive village brand and created a foundation for sustainable microenterprise development, contributing to economic empowerment and aligning with sustainable development goals on poverty reduction, decent work, and responsible production.

Abstract

Water bikes can be used as one of the vehicles in water tourism areas such as Ulee Lheue. Water bikes are used as a medium for surface transportation and fishing. Of course, this can increase the enthusiasm of those who visit the tourist destination of Ulee Lheue on weekends and holidays. High enthusiasm can increase the number of tourists, which increases income and sustains the economy of people around Ulee Lheue. Personal watercraft are constructed using fibrous pins or floats, using propeller drives, and using bicycle frames, usually modified. The steering wheel has a plate at the front and is designed to control the direction of rotation (left and right). A good community economy is expected to deliver the goodness of the community itself. Therefore, watercraft manufacturing activities must be carried out in Ulee Lheue. The implementation of this activity takes place in his two phases of implementing the activity, including creating the water bike design and manufacturing the water bike frame. The existence of water bikes can be used as an alternative to water tourism like Ulee Lheue. Water bikes are used as a medium for surface transportation and fishing. Of course, this can increase the enthusiasm of the community to visit her Ulee Lheue, a tourist destination. In fact, this water he slide is a popular ride for visitors wanting to explore lakes, reservoirs, and artificial ponds.

Abstract

The distribution and abundance of fish are strongly influenced by several oceanographic parameters, one of which is chlorophyll-a. Chlorophyll-a is one of the oceanographic parameters that play an important role in primary productivity in the sea. The distribution of chlorophyll-a contained in phytoplankton can be used as a measure of fertility in water. With advances in geographic information systems or remote sensing, the distribution of chlorophyll-a can be used to estimate fish catchment areas. This study aims to look at the distribution of chlorophyll-a in Aceh waters both spatially and temporally to predict fishing locations. This study used satellite imagery combined with a Geographic Information System (GIS) to detect chlorophyll-as distribution. The results of satellite image processing show that the average monthly value of chlorophyll-a in Aceh waters ranges from 2.71 23.54 mg/m3, areas with high chlorophyll-a are generally located in the western waters of Aceh to the southwestern waters of Aceh, while areas with The lowest chlorophyll-a is generally in areas far from the coast (towards the open sea) with a range of 0.04 0.5 mg/m3 where the lowest average occurs in the east monsoon. However, in general, the potential locations for fishing grounds are more in the waters west of Aceh than in the waters north of Aceh, Aceh waters.Keywords:Chlorophyll-aSatellite imageFishing areaGeographic information SystemAceh Waters

Abstract

Fishery management is an activity that must be carried out to achieve sustainable fisheries. Fisheries management using the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) approach is the sustainable use of fishery resources and protection of fish stocks in nature. One of the objectives of fisheries management in social and economic aspects is how fisheries can ensure the socio-economic welfare of the fishing community. Using fishing gear that is not environmentally friendly is one of the triggers for social conflict between fishermen and the uncertain selling price when the peak season of fish impacted the fishermen's economy. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to examine the socio-economic domain indicators from the aspect of EAFM-based coastal and marine resource ecosystem management. This research was conducted from January to February 2021, located in Simeulue District, Sub-District East Simeulue. The data collection method used in the study was interviews and field surveys. The determination of respondents is done by using a gradual sampling technique or stratified random sampling. Data analysis uses an ordinal-based Likert score of 1,2,3 for each indicator, namely the economic domain, fishery household income (RTP), savings ratio, asset ownership, and the social domain, namely stakeholder participation fisheries conflict and the use of local knowledge in fish resource management. Management status in East Simeulue District assessed the aggregate value of the economic domain in the medium category with a score of 48.3. Fishermen still earn less than the minimum wage, while in the social domain, it is in the excellent category with a score of 100 because fishermen, institutions, and related agencies work with each other. Keywords:EAFMEcosystem approachFishery management
