Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of macroeconomic shocks, such as economic growth, inflation and the rupiah exchange rate on Islamic banking efficiency. This study uses the two-stage least squares (TSLS) method, which is a method with two endogenous variables, namely the non-performing financing (NPF) ratio as a representation of the quality of Islamic banking financing and the operating expense operating income (BOPO) ratio as a representation of Islamic banking efficiency. So that the TSLS method aims to purify these endogenous variables against stochastic disturbances. This study uses monthly data from January 2010 to January 2020, or as many as 121 observations. The observation of data is obtained from Islamic Banking Statistic that published by Financial Services Authority (OJK). The efficiency of Islamic banks is influenced by the number of sharia banking office networks, capital adequacy ratios, and NPF ratios. The NPF ratio itself is affected by macroeconomic conditions (economic growth and appreciation of the rupiah exchange rate) as well as the efficiency of Islamic banking. Based on the above findings, a number of recommendations were given, including the urgency of simultaneously increasing efficiency and quality of Islamic banking financing accompanied by monitoring Indonesia's macroeconomic conditions, so that it is hoped that Islamic banks will be more resilient to macroeconomic shocks and competitive in the national financial services industry.

Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively measure the performance of Bank Muamalat Indonesia as the oldest Islamic bank in Indonesia that has experience in facing the 1998 monetary crisis, which is very interesting as a research object. This research uses a comparative descriptive method with a quantitative approach. The data used is of the time series data type in the form of BMI's financial statements for the 2017-2020 period. The analytical techniques used in this study used several techniques and stages, namely the level of bank health using the RGEC method, the achievement of sharia maqashid using Abu Zahrah's version of the sharia maqashid index, comparison of RGEC and IMS performance using quadrant analysis measurement (QAM) and analysis of potential financial distress using Zmijewski (X-Score). The results show that the use of the RGEC and IMS methods at Bank Muamalat Indonesia can complement the advantages and disadvantages of each performance measuring instrument. Meanwhile, the performance results from the analysis of potential financial distress through the Zmijewski method (X-score) have provided validation and strengthened the performance results of the RGEC and IMS. This study recommends that the management of Bank Muamalat Indonesia increase the amount of financing by prioritizing the principle of prudence, considering that a suitable risk profile and capital performance should be able to overcome earnings performance that is not optimal. In addition, advice to Bank Indonesia to review Bank Indonesia regulatory policy No.13/1/PBI/2011 related to the use of the RGEC method as an assessment of bank health levels wherein the performance assessment policy does not have a specific specialization for performance assessment of Islamic banks.

Abstract

Traditional markets serve as centers of grassroots economic activities that reflect the dynamics of social, cultural, and economic interactions within local communities. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, supported by in-depth interviews with respondents, and the findings are validated through a triangulation analysis model. The results indicate that vegetable traders in the Traditional Market of Tirto Sari Village, Banyuasin I District, South Sumatra Province, play a strategic role in fulfilling the community’s food needs and driving local economic activities. Their economic behavior is reflected in capital management, sales patterns, and the social interactions they build with consumers. Understanding these behaviors is essential for examining the economic rationality and social values that influence trading practices, while also contributing to the strengthening of microeconomic development based on local wisdom aligned with the principles of maqasid al-sharia.

Abstract

The Islamic fashion model in Indonesia continues to evolve in line with the increasing Muslim population. However, there is limited research on consumer perceptions and the role of religiosity in the context of halal fashion products. This research aims to investigate the influence of fashion uniqueness and consciousness on halal fashion purchase behavior with religiosity as a moderating variable. Halal fashion in this research emphasizes halal product standards in fashion. This research used a quantitative approach through a survey targeting Millennials and Gen Z individuals. A total of 186 respondents were obtained, deemed valid and complete. Additionally, this study used SemPLS-3 to validate hypotheses and evaluate the model. This analysis is considered appropriate as it can test several variable relationships simultaneously or in multivariate analysis. The findings of this study show that halal fashion purchase behavior is influenced by fashion uniqueness and consciousness. Both factors have a positive influence on halal fashion purchase behavior. However, religiosity does not impact halal purchase behavior, nor does it moderate the role of fashion uniqueness and consciousness variables on halal purchase behavior. It suggests that decisions to purchase halal fashion are more influenced by fashion uniqueness and awareness of its halal status rather than individual religiosity levels. This research highlights the need for a deeper understanding of consumer behavior in relation to religiosity and halal fashion, contributing to the fields of economics and social sciences.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of Islamic work ethic, affective commitment, normative commitment, and high-performance work systems on lecturers' performance at 122 State Islamic Universities, 60 Private Islamic Universities, and five private non-Islamic Universities in Indonesia, with a focus on gender differences to enhance the generalizability and accuracy of the findings. Employing the Structural Equation Model Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) method, the study tests whether innovative work behaviour mediates these factors. The results reveal that the R-squared value is 0.753. This method reflects that the exogenous variables of Islamic work ethic, affective commitment, and high-performance work system significantly influence innovative work behaviour by 75.3%. However, further findings revealed that the affective commitment of male lecturers does not affect their innovative work behaviour, resulting in reduced innovation and suboptimal performance. Additionally, innovative work behaviour mediates the relationship between Islamic work ethic, affective commitment, high-performance work systems, and lecturers' performance, but not with normative commitment. This plenary paper offers original insights by exploring innovative work behaviour from a gender perspective, a topic that has not been widely covered in previous studies. The research suggests that Islamic Universities should consider gender differences as they promote innovative work behaviours and adopt gender-specific strategies to enhance lecturers' performance. These considerations could foster a more creative and productive work environment. Implications: The study highlights the need for a gender-specific approach to promote innovation and improve lecturers' performance. Further research could explore other factors influencing performance in different cultural and organizational contexts.
