Abstract

The aim sof this research are describing the students’ reading strategies in mastering English between Senior High Schools at Muara Rupit and describing the students’ reading comprehension in mastering English between SMA Negeri 1 Muara Rupit and SMA Plus Bina Satria. The researchers applied descriptive qualitative method. The subject of the research are 60 students from SMA Negeri 1 Muara Rupit of class X and XI and 60 students from SMA Plus Bina Satria of class X and XI in the academic year of 2015/2016. The data collected through questionnaire. Based on the research result, it could be concluded that both of the students at SMA Negeri 1 Muara Rupit and SMA Plus Bina Satria mayority used prior knowledge to think about the topic before reading, made predictions about the probable meaning of the text before reading, previewed the text by skimming and scanning to get a sense of the overall meaning before reading, Monitor understanding by questioning the ideas and information in the text during reading, Monitor understanding by thinking about the ideas and information in the text during reading, Monitor understanding by reflecting the ideas and information in the text during reading, Reflected upon the ideas and information in the text after reading, related what they have read to their own experiences and knowledge after reading, carified their understanding of the text after reading, Extended their understanding in critical and creative ways after reading.

Abstract

The aim of this research was analysis the students’ error in writing English at SMK DIPONEGORO, Depok, Sleman Yogyakarta. This research done through qualitative research that focused in naturalistic study. The objective in this research was to know the students’ error in writing English. The result found: writing sentence using simple present, two students indicate error in Ignorance of Rule Restriction that categories of error Interlingua transfer. Writing sentence using simple past, categorized Interlingua transfer and four students’ categorized error Rule Restriction, while writing sentence used simple Future, there were two students categorized in Ignorance of Rule Restriction and two students categorized in selecting word. Finally, at the end of this research is the conclusion that describe the result of the study and then suggestion is offered to students especially Indonesian students and teacher special for English teacher.

Abstract

The aims of this research is to describe kinds of language code that used by people in their daily life. This research is categorized as a qualitative research that focuses in naturalistic study. In collecting the data research, the writer was monitoring on Blackbarry mesanger’s status. The result at this research show that status on blackbarry messenger grouped in three parts, they are code mixing, code switching, and Borrowing language. The first group is Code mixing’s status, it devided become three categories, they are Insertation, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. The insertation found five status wherein two status mixing in English and Java. One statuses categories in congruent lexicalization and one statuses categoies in alternation. The second group is Code switching, the status devided in three types, they are : three statuses include Intra-sentential switching, one status include taq- switching, three statuses include Inter-sentential switching. And the last group is borrowing language.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were (1) to design speaking materials using task based language teaching for SMK Negeri 3 Lubuklinggau and (2) to describe the strengths and the weaknesses of the speaking materials using Task Based Language teaching for SMK Negeri 3 Lubuklinggau. This research include to Educational Research and Development (R&D) using a simplified six steps of Borg and Gall’s model (1983). The result present that the product relies much on pertaining the KD of 2013 curriculum and the teacher expected that the students need to increase speaking skill since they have opportunity to speak English. The speaking materials were in line with students wants. The strengths of this product helped students to improve their speaking skill especially the vocabularies, the language function and the grammar used in spoken language. The tasks can attract the students to actively involve the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to 1) produce a contextual-based English learning module for high school students, 2) find out the improvement of students' speaking skills after using the developed English learning module. The research method used in this research is research and development using the ADDIE Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate development model. The results of the validation of material experts 80.18, linguists 70.67, and media experts 89.72 were included in the very good category. The use of contextual-based English learning modules can improve students' speaking skills with the average acquisition score of students' speaking skills being 0.48.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop listening material based on bottom up strategy that can make students master listening skills. This research method is the Research and Development (R&D) method. This method consists of identification of material needs, exploration of needs, realization of contextual materials, realization of pedagogical materials, production of materials, use of student materials and evaluation of materials against agreed goals. The population in this study were all students of the first semester English Education study program at STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau Academic Year 2020/2021. The results of this study make it easier for students to work on questions on the material that has been developed and make them more quickly understand. In conclusion, developing listening material based on a bottom-up strategy, researchers received a positive response from first semester students because it could help them learn to listen for general communication. In addition, researchers also use the bottom up strategy to develop this listening material, so that it can help make it easier for students to learn to listen for general communication. So, in this study the researchers succeeded in helping students facilitate listening learning in this first semester with a positive response from all students. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the social conditions that occurred in England after the Napoleonic war. This type of method is library research. Data collection was carried out through observation and documentation. Data were analyzed using a sociological approach. The results showed that the condition of British society after the Napoleonic war was still good in its education system with modern and intellectual thinking. British society realizes that education is very important for everyone to be more responsible. In fact, social relations that were conducive to change become individuals during war. The Napoleonic war had a negative impact on the life of British society, especially on psychological conditions and economic development. In conclusion, Britain's socio-economic life was destroyed after the war. All economic sources such as industry, agriculture and factories are getting worse. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe aim of the research was to find out whether or not it was significantly effective to teaching students speaking by using elicitation technique to the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Lubuklinggau. The sample of the research was 38 students taken from class of Eighth-five. In this research, the researcher used pre-experimental research with one group of pre-test and post-test. Based on the collecting the data by used oral test, the result of the research indicated that elicitation technique was significantly effective to improve students speaking at eighth students. It could be seen from the score students in pre-test and post-test. The average of student’s score in pre-test was 66 achieve by one students and 100% failed in test, meanwhile the students’ average score in post-test was 88 achieve by 3 students and 27 students passed in test or 71%. In addition, the result of paired t-test was that tobtained was 13.24 and ttable was 1.70. it mean tobtained was higher than ttable (13.24 ≥ 1.70). Alternative (Ha) was accepted and it was significantly effective to teach speaking by using elicitation technique to the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 lubuklinggau.Key words: Teaching Speaking, Elicitation Technique

Abstract

The aim of this research was to describe how many word students able to write English vocabulary in a short time and to describe the students’ difficulties in mastery English vocabulary. This research designed in a qualitative descriptive method, the data collected through written tests and unstructured interviews by using Focus Group Discussion. The subject of this research was twenty students grade two of Bahasa Indonesia Study Program at STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau. The results showed: in the writing English vocabulary test in three type Noun, verb and Adjective, students able to wrote average 10 word in each part and the students’ difficulties such as: Students seldom reading English text so their vocabulary mastery very low, Students has low ability to remember new English word caused of never practiced in the daily life and students confuse in using irregular word in arrange the sentence both writing and speaking.

Abstract

This study tried to investigate the correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement to the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wukirsari. There were two problems which discussed in this study. First was there any correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement to the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wukirsari? Second, what was the percentage of Students’ Learning Strategy? The objectives of this study were to find out the percentages of students’ learning strategy and to find out the correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement to the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wukirsai. The method used in this study was correlation research. The population of this study was all of the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wukirsari in the academic year 2015/2016. The total number of population was 182 students which were distributed into six classes. There were 28 students treated as the sample of the study. The sample was taken through random sampling. In collecting the data of students’ learning strategy, the writer used questionnaire by strategy inventory for language learning and in collecting the data of students’ English achievement, the writer used students’ report score. Then, the technique for analyzing the data, the writer used Spearman Rank Correlation to find out the correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement. Based on the findings, the result of the calculation correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement was 0.542, whereas the coefficient of correlation was 0.318 (obtained > table ). So the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, it means that there was a correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement to the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wuirsari in the academic year of 2015/2016. Finally, the aim of this article was to clarify on students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement.
