Abstract

Abstract

Economic growth is a shared goal pursued by every country across various regions worldwide, including the member nations within the APEC organization. However, APEC member countries still encounter several economic challenges to achieve optimal economic growth. First, macroeconomic issues such as regulatory barriers limit both FDI inflows and trade. Furthermore, unemployment remains an unresolved issue. Second, based on the World Bank's average estimates, most APEC countries exhibit low institutional quality. This is due to corruption, weak law enforcement, and lack of government transparency. Third, there is the issue of limited energy supply and increased carbon emissions due to non-renewable energy consumption. This research aims to determine the influence of macroeconomics, institutional quality, and renewable energy consumption on the economic growth of APEC member countries. The analysis method for this research is PVECM regression. The data used is panel data from 2005-2019. The research results show that the variables FDI, Trade, Labor, REC, and IQ have long and short-term influences on the economic growth of APEC countries. Suggestions that can be given are to improve the quality of APEC country institutions because, as seen from the average indicator estimates by the World Bank, Most APEC countries have low institutional quality. This improvement is needed to make policies more effective and efficient. Each country is also expected to increase the amount of renewable energy consumption.

Abstract

Poverty is a problem that affects most countries in the world, including Indonesia. Central Java Province is a region on the island of Java that occupies the second position with the highest poverty rate compared to other provinces on the island of Java. The problem of poverty must be addressed immediately so that an analysis of the factors that influence poverty is needed so that it is hoped that poverty alleviation programs can be right on target. This research aims to examine the influence of industrial growth, HDI, population and GDI on poverty levels in Central Java Province in 2011-2020. The data used is panel data which is analyzed using Random Effect Model panel data regression with a total of 35 regencies/cities in Central Java as research objects. The processing results show that there is a negative and significant influence between Industrial Growth, HDI and GDI on Poverty Levels. Meanwhile, population size does not have a significant influence on poverty levels. This means that with industrial growth, HDI and GDI development can reduce the severity of poverty. The Central Java Provincial Government must create a good environment for the growth and development of industrialization, as well as increasing gender-oriented human development.

Abstract

In numerous developing nations, the impact of cigarette consumption on poverty often goes unnoticed by policymakers. This study endeavours to explore the correlation between household expenditure on cigarettes and levels of poverty and welfare. Beyond household spending, it also investigates the influence of regional functional expenditures and the prevalence of open unemployment on poverty and welfare. The examination encompasses 100 regencies and cities across three provinces: East Java (38 regencies and cities), West Java (27 regencies and cities), and Central Java (35 regencies and cities). Utilizing secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, collected in 2021, employing a cross-sectional approach, this study employs multiple linear regression analysis via the Stata 17 program to discern the impact of various factors, including household spending, regional functional spending, and control variables, on poverty and welfare. The findings reveal that household cigarette consumption significantly exacerbates poverty, indicating that an increase in such consumption escalates poverty rates. Conversely, the second estimation model demonstrates that increased household expenditure on cigarettes significantly diminishes welfare levels, underscoring the adverse impact of heightened smoking consumption on overall welfare.

Abstract

Tourist satisfaction and tourism destinations create a value for tourists. The value of specific tourism destinations leads to individual emotional attachments, which are a manifestation of a sense of nostalgia. This study aims to investigate the role of nostalgia on the tourist satisfaction at culinary tourism destinations. Food quality, destination environment, and services all contribute to the nostalgia. The data was collected through LimeSurvey from a total of 300 respondents from Central Java and Yogyakarta and was analyzed using PLS-SEM. The results show that the food quality, destination environment, and services positively affect the nostalgia. Further, the nostalgia also has a strong significant influence on the tourist satisfaction. These findings imply that managers of culinary tourism must be able to provide positive values (impressions) to the tourists by offering unique service, quality, or destination environment compared to other destinations. It is expected that the tourists have a positive memorability which simultaneously create a revisit intention, which is in line with the tourists satisfaction.JEL:D91, D90, Z32.

Abstract

Roads are strategic infrastructure that support connectivity and regional development. The deterioration of road quality can hinder mobility and suppress economic activity. This study analyzes the factors affecting road quality, particularly those related to road damage, by emphasizing the role of the Special Allocation Fund (DAK), institutional quality measured through the democracy index and corruption cases, and political competition. A quantitative approach using panel data regression was applied to 33 provinces in Indonesia over the 2021–2023 period. The visualization results reveal disparities in road quality between Java and non-Java regions. Statistical tests show that DAK and institutional quality do not have a significant effect on road quality. Conversely, political competition has a significant effect, indicating that healthy political competition promotes accountability and efficiency in infrastructure management. The study also finds that the control variables—vehicle volume and per capita income—have a positive and significant relationship with the ratio of damaged roads. The implications of this study highlight the need to improve Indonesia’s road infrastructure quality by strengthening political competition and enhancing budget governance.
