This research was intended to develop an innovative conceptual model for early childhood education programs to develop early childhood character through Javanese traditional game. The research employed a research and development approach. Two categories of the subject were used for this research; direct subjects, consist of 2-4-age; and indirect subjects consisting of teacher and materials. These subjects were taken by means of purposive random sampling. The needed data were collected by means of interviews and literature reading. The analyzes showed that subjects, both from student and teachers were highly enthusiastic playing those traditional games. These traditional games had simple rules, easy to apply especially for toddler. Besides, these traditional games had moral value to build toddler’s character.  This model has been effectively proven to build toddlers’ characters successfully. Teachers actively reviewed the learning outcomes of the children and gave useful inputs for further development for them. Generally speaking, it can be infered that by using this model has resulted on the improvement of toddlers’ characters which is indicated by self-quality. Therefore, it is recommended that the socializations of this model should not do by the school only, but also community members especially family. How to citePranoto, Y., Sugiyo, S., & Hong, J. Abstract

School readiness is an important factor that affects the child’s development. However, promoting children’s school readiness becomes even more challenging during the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a gap between the implementation of Distance Learning and the limited understanding about effect of Distance Learning to promote children’s school readiness. This study aims to find out how distance learning affects children's school readiness during the Covid-19 pandemic and to understand the role of the children’s environment in promoting children’s school readiness, in terms of Bronfenbrenner's Bio-ecological theory. This research uses a descriptive quantitative method. Data was collected by an online survey. There were 326 parents and 34 KG-B teachers from 16 private schools in Semarang who participated in this study. Data analysis uses descriptive analysis techniques and independent sample t-test. The result finds out that distance learning is less effective in promoting children's school readiness, especially in socio-emotional skills. The role of the ecological system also influences distance learning in promoting school readiness, so for promoting school readiness, both children’s skills and the roles of systems should be emphasized. The findings suggest the school needs to evaluate and review every strategy, planning and implementation of distance learning in their schools. The findings also suggest the kindergarten teachers need to enrich their competence in designing innovative, creative, and interesting distance learning activities, based on digital technology. Abstract

Assessment is an inseparable part of the learning process. However, teachers in the ABCD5E learning model do not conduct assessments optimally. In the results of discussions and questionnaires, more than 65% found it difficult to conduct assessments. This encourages the creators of the ABCD5E learning model to find techniques to make it easier for PAUD teachers to conduct assessments with the ABCD5E learning model. The creator of the ABCD5E learning model adopted the STAR technique from DDI. The purpose of this research is to determine the effectiveness of the STAR Technique (Situation, Task, Action, and Result) in learning with the ABCD5E model to improve PAUD teachers' assessment skills. The research method used was experimental, using a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The results showed an increase in the ability of teachers to conduct assessments using the STAR technique in the implementation of the ABCD5E learning model.

Abstract

Toilet training is one of the important efforts in improving the independence and personal hygiene of preschool children, especially in the context of thaharah values in Islam. This study aims to describe the efforts to improve thaharah and independence of preschool children through toilet training in two daycare centers in Semarang City. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study approach model. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with educators, and documentation. The results showed that both daycare centers have integrated the values of thaharah in their toilet training programs. The approaches used include habituation, modeling, and the use of language that is suitable for children's understanding. In addition to increasing independence in toilet use, the toilet training program also succeeded in fostering children's awareness of the importance of maintaining personal hygiene in accordance with religious teachings. Challenges faced in implementing toilet training include differences in children's characteristics, lack of parental support, and limited facilities. This study contributes to the development of toilet training programs that are oriented towards religious values. Recommendations include the importance of collaboration between educators, parents, and religious leaders in instilling the values of thaharah from an early age. In addition, it is necessary to develop a more comprehensive curriculum that integrates cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects in the toilet training process.

Abstract

The challenges of implementing new curricula, such as insufficient infrastructure, high parental expectations, and varying levels of teacher quality, have left many early childhood education (PAUD) teachers unprepared for curriculum changes. Teachers often face difficulties adapting to new instructional materials, revising learning plans, updating teaching processes, and aligning assessments with curriculum requirements. Curriculum transitions are a global phenomenon, posing challenges for educators in various contexts. This study explores the influence of self-regulation on PAUD teachers' readiness for curriculum change in Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach with simple linear regression analysis, data were collected from 113 teachers selected through quota sampling based on calculations using the G*Power software (α = 0.05, power = 0.95, effect size f = 0.15). Validated instruments assessed self-regulation and readiness for curriculum change, ensuring cultural and linguistic relevance. Results from SPSS analysis demonstrated a significant positive relationship (p = 0.001, CI: 1.031–1.934) between self-regulation and readiness for curriculum change. Teachers with higher self-regulation exhibited greater adaptability and competence in meeting the demands of curriculum updates. This study highlights the pivotal role of self-regulation in enhancing teacher readiness, enabling educators to address challenges, develop new skills, and align their practices with curriculum requirements. The findings underscore the need for professional development programs to foster self-regulation and institutional support to facilitate smooth transitions during curriculum reforms. Future research should adopt longitudinal designs to explore the dynamic processes of teacher readiness over time and across diverse educational settings.
