Abstract

The use of early childhood gadgets reaps a lot of attention from various parties because the use of gadgets by early children can adversely affect the ability of early childhood empathy. This study aims of this study is to describe the ability of early childhood empathy gadget users in Banyumanik Village. This study uses qualitative methods using data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observations and documentation. The results of this study explain that excessive use of gadgets by early childhood in Banyumanik village has a negative impact on children's behavior that can be seen from the reaction of children in the form of crying, hitting angry at parents to kick the door when getting a refusal to use gadgets. In addition, early childhood gadget users have less concern. The behavior explains that early childhood gadget users have poor empathy abilities. The role of parents in monitoring the use of early childhood gadgets in Banyumanik village can be said to be lacking. This is because parents are not consistent in supervising and educating early childhood in the use of gadgets so that children have less empathic abilities, for example, children cannot read other people's messages well and are selfish. However, in Banyumanik village there are also parents who are consistent and have a firm stance against the use of early childhood gadgets because they hope their children who are still early can have good empathy skills such as not being selfish. Constraints parents in improving the ability of early childhood empathy gadget users include the availability of time parents supervise the use of gadgets, care and attention to the low early childhood, knowledge of parents related to early childhood empathy skills, video content on social media that set a bad example and the consistent level of parents in supervising as well as educating early childhood gadget users.

Abstract

Although we are now seeing a point where we can control the pandemic, its impact on education remains a major highlight. Schools around the world have been forced to make deep changes by switching to distance learning and adopting blended learning methods that integrate face-to-face and online learning. This transition not only creates challenges for students, teachers, and parents, and creates new opportunities to improve the way we educate and connect. This research explores the views of Early Childhood Education teachers in Semarang regarding School Connectedness and parent support during the pandemic. With 74 Kindergarten A and Kindergarten B teachers as participants, using the Ex post facto quantitative method in the 2021-2022 school year, this research utilized an online questionnaire via Google Forms. Ordinal regression analysis shows that parental support significantly influences School Connectedness (Wald = 7.318, sig. = 0.007). The novelty of the research lies in its focus on PAUD teachers in Semarang who are facing the challenges of distance learning and blended learning due to the pandemic. The benefits involve a deeper understanding of the crucial role of parental support in strengthening teacher-school-student relationships. The results of the research can be a basis for schools, teachers and parents to develop strategies to improve School Connectedness in the future, especially in an ever-changing learning context. Thus, this research contributes to our understanding of the factors that influence the quality of education in the pandemic era.

Abstract

Flood periods require special attention, particularly in affected areas such as Pasuruhan Village, Kayen, Pati, which experiences annual flooding. This event disrupts public facilities, including education services. RA Al Huda faced a two-month hiatus in learning activities during the flood, leaving early childhood students (ages 4–6) to play at home without structured learning. Creativity in teaching mathematics, science, and technology (MST) for early childhood education became a critical innovation in a community service program under the KOSABANGSA 2024 initiative by DRTPM Kemendikbudristek. This program was implemented by the Universitas Ivet team in collaboration with Universitas Negeri Semarang as the advisory team. The initiative aims to develop learning media to sustain education during floods. The implementation strategy involves management and social empowerment aspects, including flood-period management for early childhood education, parenting programs, and partnerships with parents. The development of this community service project follows the ADDIE model, which includes five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The study sample consists of the principal and teachers of RA Al Huda Pasuruhan, Kayen, Pati, along with parents. The innovation was validated by experts, achieving a score of 3.59 in the "excellent" category. The outcomes of this community service include enhanced management capabilities and social empowerment for teachers and parents in implementing creative MST learning media for early childhood education during flood periods. The novelty of this project lies in the technological innovation of learning media specifically designed for early childhood education during floods.
