Abstract

Sepsis, a life-threatening organ dysfunction resulting from a dysregulated host response to infection, induces changes in blood cells and metabolic alterations. Fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4), a lipid chaperone predominantly expressed in adipose tissue, is modulated in sepsis and may contribute to metabolic and immunologic changes. Moringa oleifera (M. oleifera) leaf extract (MOLE) is known to modulate immune system activity, but its potential for treating acute inflammatory conditions like sepsis remains unclear. This study investigates the ability of MOLE to modulate metabolite and hematological profiles in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced sepsis in mice. Thirty-five male Swiss Webster mice (Mus musculus) were divided into five groups, including healthy control pre-treated with 0.5% carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), an LPS-induced negative control, an LPS-induced positive control treated with dexamethasone (DMX) 7mg/KgBW/day and two MOLE treatment groups with doses of 5.6 and 11.2 mg/20 gBW. Mice received MOLE pre-treatment for three days before LPS induction. Three hours post-LPS injection, the LPS-induced group exhibited leukopenia (1.4 [0.9-2.5] x109 cells/L) and a 68.3% increase in triglyceride levels. However, the MOLE-treated group showed improved erythrocyte levels compared to the positive control group; [(9.9(9.3-10.0) x1012 cell/L) vs (7.7(7.0-9.0) x1012 cells/L), p<0.05]. The study suggests that MOLE administration may positively impact sepsis conditions, particularly by enhancing RBC levels. Further research with an extended observation period is recommended to address limitations in metabolite level assessment.

Abstract

Hermeneutics is the philosophy of interpretation that originated from the tradition of Bible interpretation. Among Muslim scholars, there is a mindset of interpreting the Qur’an that clearly adopts the hermeneutic method. Muslim scholars who support this adoption work believe that this method can bring changes to the method of Qur’anic interpretation, which they have long considered stagnant. The Qur’an, as a sacred scripture, is revered and used as a guide for life by Muslims. The Qur’an is the word of God, revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through the Angel Gabriel for humanity in this world. The adoption of the hermeneutic theory is seen as the initiator of a new interpretation method. Hermeneutics, as an interpretation method, is highly counterproductive with the salaf al-salih scholars in understanding the message of the Qur’an, so that the subtlety of intelligence (accuracy of understanding) and the subtlety of explication (accuracy of explanation) of the verses of Allah can be traced comprehensively.

Abstract

BackgroundGastrointestinal (GI) cancer is affecting millions of people globally, leading to high incidence and mortality rates and a heavy economic burden. Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptors (NLRs) are a family of cytosolic pattern recognition receptors that regulate host defense responses against microorganisms. Among these, NLR family CARD domain-containing 5 (NLRC5) is assumed to function as a regulator of proinflammatory responses to intracellular pathogens. NLRC5 has been known to regulate immune responses, although its association with cancer remains controversial. This systematic review aimed to explore the roles and functions of NLRC5 in GI cancers. MethodsThree electronic databases, PubMed, Scopus, and ProQuest, were used for literature searching on March 18, 2024. From 921 articles found, 157 duplicates were removed, 671 were excluded based on title and abstract screening, and 84 were excluded based on full-text assessment, resulting in 19 articles included in this review. ResultsElevated NLRC5 levels have been observed in tumor tissues compared to normal tissues across esophageal, gastric, colorectal, and liver cancers. NLRC5 is also associated with increased tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Cancer cell sensitivity to 5-fluorouracil chemotherapy was found to be negatively correlated with NLRC5 expression. NLRC5 expression levels and genetic variations were also associated with cancer susceptibility to chemotherapeutic drugs and cancer survival. ConclusionNLRC5 potentially exhibits diverse functions in GI cancers, acting as a biomarker for diagnosis, disease progression, prognostic assessment, and determining therapeutic implications. Further investigations are warranted to explore these mechanisms and their potentials for the development of effective treatment of GI cancers.

Abstract

How important essence is in the Muhammadiyah movement, zakat and the generous dimension are important, strategic and effective agendas. Lazismu is the leader. Zakat is one of the pillars of Islam which guides Muslims in implementing it. Zakat is an activity to cleanse oneself of possessions to carry out social responsibilities. Zakat management has different forms of supervision, so that sometimes there are different perceptions about the zakat operating system, where zakat can change it towards improving the economy. Furthermore, the data collected will become part of the large zakat data which can lead to improvements in the people's economy. The problem that occurs in PCIM Malaysia is that the zakat collection that has been carried out is still not significant in relation to the residents of Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur. This is shown because the level of community involvement in the zakat management system at PCIM is not optimal. The meeting, which lasted for two hours, discussed various aspects related to zakat in the Muhammadiyah Association and also aspects of digitalization in the management, communication and distribution of zakat funds. This activity uses an advanced approach to the community through broadcasting or preaching to the residents of Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur. It is hoped that this community service program will provide awareness to people who already have the obligation to pay zakat so that the quantity of zakat collection in PCIM will increase.

Abstract

Iron overload in transfusion-dependent thalassemia patients represents a significant public health challenge due to its high mortality rate and risks of severe complications. Therefore, developing safe and effective therapeutic modalities for managing iron overload is critical, as current animal models inadequately replicate human conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of intravenous iron dextran on hepatocyte morphology, liver iron concentration, and serum iron profile changes as a model for hemochromatosis. An experimental design with a post-test-only control group method was conducted using animal models. Fifty rats were used and divided into ten groups, nine received different intravenous doses of iron dextran: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, and 120 mg/kg body weight (BW) and a control group received no treatment. The results showed that intravenous iron dextran starting at a dose of 10 mg/kg BW caused significant changes in liver iron concentration while starting at 20 mg/kg BW significantly affected hepatocyte morphology, transferrin levels, unsaturated iron binding capacity, serum iron levels, and transferrin saturation. Intravenous iron dextran starting at 40 mg/kg BW resulted significant changes in the level of total iron binding capacity compared to control group. In conclusion, intravenous iron dextran significantly altered hepatocyte morphology, increased liver iron concentration, and modified the serum iron profile, reflecting changes that might be observed in patients with transfusion-dependent thalassemia.

Abstract

Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz succeeded in implementing the concept of welfare state, namely prosperous state. Umar has a new policy to change the lives of people. One of the evidence is that there is no find one who can accept zakat because the whole community has been sufficient. Therefore, this research aims to know how Umar's strategy is to create prosperity for the community. The study used qualitative methods using the literature review taken from several books, journals, and several relevant reading sources. From the results of the research is known that Umar's policy strategy is by distributing a wealth of government officials with a fair and flat, but Umar also spent the Harat in Baitul Maal to pay the debt of society.  Even when he was appointed Caliph, he gathered his people and announced and handed over all his unnatural possessions and family to Baitul Maal. In the event that Umar banned the sale of land Kharaj because it could be the main source of State acceptance. In the time of his glory, Caliph Umar received a source of acceptance of the state from Zakat, Jizyah, Kharaj, ' Usyr, and Ghanimah and Fa'i.Keywords: welfare state, policy, caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz
