Abstract

This study aims to describe the reflection of social life in Andrea Hirata's novel Laskar Pelangi using a sociological approach to literature. This novel was chosen because it is able to represent the social reality of Belitung society, which is marked by various problems such as poverty, disparities in access to education, and the struggle to live amidst limitations. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through literature review and text analysis of the novel’s content. The results show that Laskar Pelangi reflects the social life of a community with economic limitations, yet one that continues to uphold the value of education as a means of social mobility and life transformation. In addition, the novel portrays strong social relationships within the community, characterized by solidarity, cooperation, and a high fighting spirit in facing various social challenges. On the other hand, it also depicts social inequality among certain groups, highlighting differences in access to resources, particularly in education. Thus, through a sociological approach to literature, the novel Laskar Pelangi functions not only as a work of fiction but also as a real reflection of social life filled with educational, moral, and inspirational values, thereby providing a deeper understanding of the relationship between literary works and social reality. Abstract

This study, titled “Literary Sociology of Friendship in Tere Liye’s Novel Pulang-Pergi,” aims to describe the forms and social values of friendship as represented in the literary work. The study employs a qualitative approach using descriptive-analytical methods from the perspective of literary sociology. The research data consists of text excerpts depicting interactions between characters in the novel, while the primary data source is the novel *Pulang-Pergi*. Data collection was conducted through reading and note-taking, while data analysis utilized content analysis with the stages of reduction, classification, interpretation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the friendships in this novel are divided into four main forms: loyalty, trust, solidarity, and sacrifice. These four forms reflect strong social values and demonstrate that friendship is not merely emotional but also a social construct influenced by the conditions and conflicts faced by the characters. Thus, this novel effectively represents social reality through the complex dynamics of friendship.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the didactic values contained in the legend of the origin of the Landak River in West Kalimantan. The method used is qualitative descriptive research employing a content analysis approach to the folklore text. The data were analyzed through a process of reduction, categorization, and interpretation to identify the educational values contained in the story. The results of the study indicate that the legend contains moral, social, responsibility, patience, religious, and local wisdom values that play a role in shaping the character of the community. These values remain relevant in modern life, particularly in the character education of the younger generation.

Abstract

This study examines the psychological aspects in the short story “Listrik Mati Lagi” by Abdullah Alawi through a literary psychology approach. The problem addressed in this research is how the psychological conditions of the characters are portrayed amid economic pressure and environmental limitations. The objective of this study is to identify and describe the inner conflicts, emotional responses, and defense mechanisms experienced by the characters. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through close reading and note-taking techniques on narrative elements, dialogues, and character actions. The analysis is based on psychological literary theory focusing on anxiety, inner conflict, and defense mechanisms. The results show that the characters experience various psychological pressures, including anxiety, fear, and emotional tension. The father figure tends to exhibit silence as a form of defense mechanism, while the mother expresses anxiety through complaints. Meanwhile, the child character reflects subjective perception shaped by fear and imagination, especially in dark situations caused by power outages. These findings indicate that environmental conditions, such as economic hardship and physical surroundings, significantly influence the psychological state of the characters. Therefore, the short story not only represents social reality but also reveals complex psychological dynamics within human life.

Abstract

The article entitled “The Use of Verbs in the Novel Surga yang Tak Dirindukan by Asma Nadia” aims to describe the forms, functions, and usage of verbs in constructing sentence structures within the novel. This study focuses on the analysis of basic verbs and derived verbs found in narrative texts and character dialogues. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques involving observation and note-taking, while data analysis is conducted using a syntactic approach. The data source of this research is the novel Surga yang Tak Dirindukan by Asma Nadia as a representation of language use in popular literary works. The findings reveal that the dominant types of verbs used are active verbs, both transitive and intransitive, which function as the main predicates in sentences. Furthermore, various affixation patterns were identified, influencing grammatical meanings and enriching narrative expressions. The use of verbs also plays an important role in portraying plot dynamics and character emotions. This study concludes that verbs have a central role in constructing meaning and sentence structures in the novel.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of audiovisual media on the news text summarizing skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 10 Sungai Kakap. The study was motivated by students’ difficulties in identifying the 5W+1H elements and producing coherent summaries based on news texts. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 30 students from Class VIII A selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through tests, observation, and documentation. The research instruments were first validated using the Item Content Validity Index (I-CVI) and the Scale Content Validity Index (S-CVI). Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with SPSS version 27. The results showed that the students’ mean score increased from 49 on the pretest to 83 on the posttest. The Wilcoxon test yielded an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of < 0.001, indicating a statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. Furthermore, the N-Gain score was 0.67, which falls into the moderate category, indicating that audiovisual media were moderately effective in improving students’ news text summarizing skills. Therefore, audiovisual media can be considered an effective alternative for teaching Indonesian language, particularly in news text learning. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh penggunaan media audiovisual terhadap keterampilan menyimpulkan teks berita pada peserta didik kelas VIII SMP Negeri 10 Sungai Kakap. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh masih rendahnya kemampuan peserta didik dalam mengidentifikasi unsur-unsur 5W+1H serta menyusun simpulan secara runtut sesuai isi berita. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode pre-eksperimental melalui rancangan one-group pretest-posttest design. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 30 peserta didik kelas VIII A yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tes, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Instrumen penelitian terlebih dahulu diuji validitas isi menggunakan Item Content Validity Index (I-CVI) dan Scale Content Validity Index (S-CVI). Data dianalisis menggunakan uji normalitas Shapiro–Wilk dan uji Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test dengan bantuan SPSS versi 27. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata peserta didik meningkat dari 49 pada pretest menjadi 83 pada posttest. Hasil uji Wilcoxon memperoleh nilai Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) < 0,001 yang menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara nilai pretest dan posttest. Selain itu, nilai N-Gain sebesar 0,67 termasuk kategori sedang, yang menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media audiovisual cukup efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menyimpulkan teks berita. Dengan demikian, media audiovisual dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu alternatif media pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia pada materi teks berita.
