Abstract

Drowning during swimming has become a significant public health concern that urged the World Health Organization to call for all school-aged children to be taught basic swimming skills, water safety, and rescue techniques. In this teaching, efficiency shall be obtained with the help of an effective learning model. This study will investigate the publication trends of research about swimming learning models carried out for students during the last 22 years, from 2002 until 2024, using the data from the Scopus database. The search was carried out on August 7, 2024, by title, abstract, and keywords, using the sets of words "swimming AND learning AND model AND for AND students," and obtained 47 documents, where 66% were articles, 12.8% conference reviews, 10.6% conference papers, 4.3% book chapters, 2.1% books, 2.1% notes, and 2.1% reviews. The most frequent year of publication corresponded to the year 2023, with a total of 10 documents. Three each by the International Journal of Human Movement and Sport Science and Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies. Among the 15 contributing authors, only two documents were contributed by Firmansyah Dlis and Mao Jie. Affiliation-wise, two were contributed by Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Wuhan Sports University, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, and Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Nationally, China tops the list with eight documents. The most cited article, by Iserbyt et al. (2016), received 44 citations in 22 years. Based on the VOSviewer analysis, the "swimming learning model" item count is low (47 documents in 22 years). Thus, the visualization has been limited, with only a few networking-connected words. Such a scenario represents that research on swimming learning models for students still holds potential for further investigation.

Abstract

Bridging Policy and Practice in Competency Assessment of Indonesian Proficient Teachers: A Mixed Methods Gap Analysis. Objective: This study aims to analyze the need for developing teacher competency assessment instruments for proficient teachers. Method: This study used a mixed-methods approach with a convergent design. It begins by analyzing 457 Scopus-indexed publications from the past 46 years, identified through the keywords “teacher AND competency AND assessment AND instrument.” A content analysis of five selected publications relevant to Indonesia was conducted to align the desired competencies of proficient teachers with the Regulation of the Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel Number 2626/B/HK.04.01/2023. To further explore gaps in existing instruments, the study utilized VOSviewer for visualization and additional content analysis, considering code, category, and theme. Findings: The findings reveal that current teacher assessment instruments in Indonesia are not yet aligned with the 2023 regulation, particularly lacking indicators focused on the competency of “evaluating and designing improvements.” This is a critical performance area highlighted in the new policy framework, which aims to enhance student-centered education. Conclusions: As a result, it is concluded that this study highlights a clear and urgent need for the development of more contextualized assessment instruments that reflect updated regulatory expectations, address actual teacher performance needs, and support improved learning outcomes. These insights serve as a vital foundation for future research and policy-driven development of teacher assessment tools in Indonesia. Keywords: competency assessment instruments, teacher competency, teacher competency instruments, proficient teacher competency.

Abstract

One of the keys to successful learning model development is conducting a comprehensive needs analysis on actual performance, desired performance, and causes of performance gaps. This research aims to analyze student performance needs so that they can become a credible basis for consideration when designing the syntax of learning experiences for integrated learning models for micro-teaching courses. Researchers used an explanatory sequential design when completing the study, so quantitative research became the main focus for data collection and analysis, which was emphasized by qualitative studies. There were 107 research respondents, namely 75 students, two lecturers, and 30 physical education teachers. Data on actual performance, desired performance, and causes of performance gaps on the variables of teaching skills, analytical thinking skills, academic integrity, and transformational leadership were collected using 12 statements. Qualitative data was collected using semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed descriptively and with Kruskal-Wallis to test differences in actual performance and desired performance of the three groups of respondents. Meanwhile, for qualitative data, researchers used thematic analysis. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis test prove that there are no significant differences between the three groups of respondents in actual performance (0.365> 0.05) or desired performance (0.758> 0.05). Students, lecturers, and teachers agree that teaching skills, analytical thinking skills, academic integrity, and transformational leadership are important requirements in developing integrated learning models. Meanwhile, the causes of performance gaps are not limited to lack of training experience, lack of opportunity to analyze problems and make decisions, lack of role models, or lack of support from lecturers and colleagues in lectures. Thus, in developing the model, the performance tasks designed must be able to overcome this performance gap by increasing students' experience in operational and clinical exercises during lectures

Abstract

Research and publications on differentiation instruction in various subjects have developed rapidly in the world. Unfortunately, this trend is not directly proportional to the subject of physical education, even though differentiation instruction is the latest learning trend that is based on student learning needs. This research aims to analyze the metrics and visualization of differentiation instruction publications over the last ten years (2013-2023) using the literature review method. Google Scholar inspection using the Publish or Perish application only found nine articles (out of 16 articles) that met the VOSviewer visualization analysis criteria. As a result, the highest publication metrics were only three articles in 2014 and 53 citations as the highest top citations in 2019 for two articles. Network term differentiation is limited to three terms: analysis, lesson, and education. The VOSviewer visualization confirms that differentiation instruction has great potential to be developed in physical education to contribute to fulfilling students' learning experiences by their learning potential preferences. Future research can consider aspects of differentiation instruction that are not limited to teachers evaluating student learning outcomes based on differentiation instruction, and using differentiation instruction to improve various skills that help students survive in real life.

Abstract

The Beginner Lecturer Research Grant (PDP) is an opportunity for non-functional and functional lecturer to practice their writing, researching, and research skills and abilities. The evaluation results found that only 16.6% of internal study program lecturers had ever passed the PDP grant, so it was necessary to provide training and assistance to lecturers so that their proposals could be funded through the PDP scheme. The methods used are sharing-session, distributing strategy tips for preparing the PDP), training (participants compose a PDP proposal according to the template), clinic (participants are assisted to correct the results of their proposal preparation directly), and evaluation (participants' work is evaluated using instruments). The participants were 15 people, including eight permanent lecturers (53.3%) from the internal study program and seven lecturers (46.6%) from the external study program. As a result, the participants' knowledge and understanding increased, and the lecturers' skills in preparing proposals also improved. Training and assistance in preparing proposals must be a severe concern of fostering a culture of writing and researching on campus to compete with critical ideas through national schemes prepared by the government, private sector, and others.
