Abstract

Chromolaena odorata leaves are empirically known to act as anti-inflammatory and other pharmacological effects. In this study, ethanol extracts from Chromolaena odorata leaves were analyzed using phytochemical screening and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to identify phytochemical constituents. Phytochemical tests showed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and phenolics. GC-MS analysis of ethanol extracts from Chromolaena odorata leaves detected the presence of seven phytochemical compounds, namely Ethyl (E)-4-(2-phenylethylamino)but-2-enoate; 2h-pyran 2-(7-heptadecynyloxy) tetrahydro; 3,7,11-Trimethyldodeca-2,6,10-trienyl acetate; Bicyclo(3.1.1)heptane, 2,6,6-trimethyl-,(1alpha,2beta,5alpha)-11,13-Dimethyl-12-tetradecen-1-yl acetate; (2E,7R,11R)-3,7,11,15-tetramethyl-2-hexadecen-1-ol, and 9,12,15-Octadecatrienoic acid. This study identified several constituents that are biologically active compounds through GC-MS. These phytocompounds have potential as herbal medicines due to pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antibacterial, and anticancer.

Abstract

The hospital work environment, particularly the Emergency Department (ER) and the Sanitation Waste Management Department (IPLS), has various potential hazards that can threaten the safety of staff. This study aims to identify potential hazards, assess risk levels, and determine occupational risk controls using the HIRADC method at Meuraxa Regional General Hospital. This quantitative study with a descriptive observational approach used a facility observation checklist and semi-structured interviews with staff. Data collection was conducted from June 1–16, 2025, through observation, documentation, and interviews. Risk analysis was based on likelihood and severity, then classified into low, medium, and high risks. The results showed a higher risk of infectious diseases among ER staff (57.1%) compared to ER staff (28.6%). In the ER, moderate–high risks were found in unfastened oxygen cylinders, dusty defibrillators, dirty suction pumps and HFNCs, and portable X-rays without radiation protection. Dominant risks included needlesticks, infection exposure, ampule injuries, limited PPE, noise, aggressive patients, and confined spaces. At the IPLS, high risks are found in the electrical panels and water pumps, and moderate risks are found in the filters and storage areas. The HIRADC method is considered effective and needs to be supported by strengthened controls, OHS training, and strict SOPs.
