Abstract

This article describes the implementation of writing in Mathematics as an effort to improve students’ problem solving skill. The research method was classroom action research which was conducted in three cycles. Research participants were 24 first-year students at PGSD FKIP Syiah Kuala University. Data was collected using a written test consisted of mathematical word problems presented to the students at the end of each cycle, and interview. Students’ problem solving skill was analyzed based on the four steps of problem solving proposed by Polya: 1. the ability to understand the problem, 2. the ability to plan a strategy to solve the problem, 3. the ability to execute the plan, and 4. the ability to re-check. Result shows that writing in Mathematics improve students’ problem solving skill. In cycle 1, the average score of students’ problem solving skill was 51.7. In cycle 2, the average score was 75.6, and finally in cycle 3, the average score was 83.4. During interview, the students confessed that writing helped them organize their thinking so that they can solve a problem satisfactorily.

Abstract

The integration of cultural context in mathematics teaching materials is a form of implementing ethnomathematics-based teaching. It is an effort of making mathematics learning easier and meaningful. This paper reports the effect of an ethnomathematics teaching material on students’ understanding of linear equations at the Department of Primary Education Universitas Syiah Kuala. 105 students participated in the study. Students’ understanding was assessed using a test. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative method. Students’ understanding of linear equation was analyzed based on 3 aspects of solving linear equation problems: correctly translate word problems into linear equation, perform calculation correctly, and give correct final answer. Results showed that more than 83% of the students could answer the test satisfactorily. Therefore, it is concluded that the implementation of the ethnomathematics teaching material helps students understand linear equation. This finding implies that the implementation of ethnomathematics teaching material is beneficial for mathematics learning.

Abstract

Literature reveals that there are numerous factors that affect students' academic achievement. These factors range from internal factors with varying degrees of influence. Determining the dominant factors is highly useful as part of the effort and the planning of potential actions regarding what can be done to improve students’ academic achievement. The present study employed a systematic literature review method to identify the dominant factors. Results show that there are four dominant factors that affect students’ academic achievement. They are academic motivation, emotional intelligence, teachers, and peers. This finding confirms the complex nature of the factors that affect students’ academic achievement, which involve internal and external factors. Without disregarding the other factors, these findings suggest that schools and parents should pay close attention to the dominant factors in order to improve students’ achievement.

Abstract

The acquisition of mathematical proficiency among university students, particularly within the Department of Elementary Education at Universitas Syiah Kuala, Aceh – Indonesia, often presents challenges. Integrating religious undertones into mathematics pedagogy represents a constructive approach to engender student engagement and augment comprehension. Such integration affords students a familiar contextual backdrop, fostering a more meaningful learning milieu. This article delineates the development of an instructional resource imbued with Islamic motifs, specifically addressing concepts related to integers. The study cohort comprises 115 second-year students enrolled in the Department of Elementary Education at Universitas Syiah Kuala. Methodological stages encompassed preliminary inquiry, developmental endeavors, and evaluative assessments. Research instrumentation encompassed validation protocols for assessing integrity and observation metrics capturing students' instructional engagements. Additionally, assessments, accompanied by post-instructional questionnaires, were administered to gauge student perceptions. Qualitative data analyses were conducted, evaluating the product's viability across dimensions of validity, applicability, and efficacy. Iterative revisions were undertaken during the instructional resource's refinement process. Outcomes underscore the aptness of the Islamic-imbued mathematics instructional material for second-year students within the elementary education domain. The implications of these findings underscore the advantages conferred by familiar-contextualized learning materials in facilitating students' mathematical comprehension.

Abstract

The right learning method can influence the success of students. Teachers as educators need to know various teaching methods, especially in Mathematics lessons. The concept of learning and problem solving can be easily understood if the learning methods applied by students are appropriate. Game methods are often used in learning because they are considered effective. To determine the effectiveness of the snake and ladder game method on student learning outcomes in mixed arithmetic operations material. A quantitative approach was used in this research. The conclusion that can be drawn is that significant data processing results (2-tailed) were obtained at 0.000 < 0.05.

Abstract

Buku teks yang hanya berfokus pada materi pembelajaran pengetahuan tanpa diintegrasikan dengan keyakinan agama, menyebabkan peserta didik tidak memiliki kesadaran penuh untuk mendalami ilmu pengetahuan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis buku teks mata pelajaran IPAS kelas VI Sekolah Dasar, terkait aspek keyakinan agama dalam memperoleh ilmu pengetahuan. Pendekatan yang digunakan kualitatif deskriptif. Jenis penelitiannya study pustaka, pengumpulan data dengan telaah dokumen dan menggunakan teknik analisis isi. Hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa, dalam buku teks IPAS kelas VI, hanya terdapat satu aspek keyakinan agama dalam memperoleh ilmu pengetahuan yang dintegrasikan dalam materi ajar, yaitu alam semesta sebagai bukti keagungan Tuhan sebagai pencipta alam. Aspek tersebut terdapat pada bab 5, yaitu pada topik C Sistem Tata Surya. Sedangkan aspek lainnya belum termuat, yaitu ilmu pengetahuan sebagai jalan mengenal Tuhan, panca indra dan hati nurani sebagai instrumen berharga untuk mengamati alam dan hasil ciptaan Tuhan, proses untuk menunjukan bukti kebesaran Allah dilakukan dengan penyelidikan ilmiah, peran dan sikap positif yang dilakukan manusia terhadap alam semesta adalah sebagai amal ibadah pada Tuhan.

Tujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh model Problem Based Learning (PBL) terhadap keterampilan argumentasi ilmiah siswa kelas V SD Negeri Lampeuneurut Kabupaten Aceh Besar dalam mata pelajaran IPAS pada materi sumber energi. Penelitian ini mengaplikasikan pendekatan kuantitatif melalui desain quasi-experiment. Sampel terdiri dari kelas eksperimen beserta kontrol. Data didapat melalui tes esai. Analisis data dilangsungkan melalui penggunaan uji Independent Sampel T-Test berbantuan IBM SPSS Statistics. Temuan analisis mendapat rata-rata nilai maksimal dengan skala likert 4 yaitu pre-test kelas eksperimen ialah 2,00 (cukup) dan post-test mengalami kenaikan menjadi 3,52 (baik) sementara nilai rata-rata kelas kontrol sedikit meningkat dari 1,59 (kurang) menjadi 1,98 (kurang). Temuan uji t Independent Sampel T-Test menghasilkan nilai Signifikansi. (2-tailed) senilai 0,000 (<0,05), yang mengindikasikan adanya pengaruh signifikan penerapan model PBL terhadap keterampilan argumentasi ilmiah siswa. Dengan demikian, penerapan model PBL efektif dalam mempertinggi kemampuan siswa untuk berargumentasi secara ilmiah

Abstract

The phenomenon in the field shows that the learning process is not effective because students often feel bored and do not follow Pancasila education lessons. Wordwall-based media is one type of media that can be used to produce effective learning. The method in this research is a qualitative approach with descriptive research type. The research subjects were 34 class IV students at SD Negeri 32 Banda Aceh. The instruments used include student learning activity observation sheets, test sheets, and questionnaires to measure student responses. The research results showed that: 1) students' learning activities reached 89.2% with the criteria "very good"; 2) the use of this media is effective, with 97% of students declared "complete" based on an average score of 94; 3) students' responses to Wordwall media averaged 30.3 in the "positive" category. Thus, the use of Wordwall-based media is effective in learning Pancasila Education

Abstract

Kurangnya pemahaman konsep penjumlahan dan pengurangan pecahan pada peserta didik juga minimnya metode dan media pembelajaran yang efektif dan konkret dalam proses pembelajaran dapat mempengaruhi hasil belajar yang kurang maksimal. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian Quasi Experimental dan desain Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini melibatkan seluruh peserta didik kelas V SDN 56 Banda Aceh yang berjumlah 63 peserta didik. Sampel penelitian terbagi menjadi dua kelompok, yaitu kelas eksperimen yang berjumlah 32 peserta didik dan kelas kontrol yang berjumlah 31 peserta didik, yang dipilih menggunakan teknik sampling total. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pemberian assessment pre-test dan post-test yang menggunakan instrumen berupa tes pilihan ganda yang terdiri dari 5 soal dan essay yang terdiri dari 5 soal. Untuk mengetahui perbedaan hasil belajar yang signifikan antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol, peneliti menggunakan uji Mann-Whitney. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data diperoleh nilai Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) sebesar 0,001 < 0,05, yang artinya terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara hasil belajar menggunakan metode Drill and Practice berbantuan media Blok Pecahan dan hasil belajar pada pembelajaran konvensional, maka Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh metode Drill and Practice berbantuan media Blok Pecahan terhadap hasil belajar peserta didik pada materi penjumlahan dan pengurangan pecahan di kelas V SDN 56 Banda Aceh.
