Abstract

Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) is one of Indonesia’s important agricultural commodities with strong economic potential. However, optimizing its productivity depends heavily on proper cultivation practices, particularly pruning, which significantly affects plant health and fruit yield. This study focused on the Women's Farmer Group (Kelompok Wanita Tani/KWT) in PTPN 1 Regional V Kebun Bangelan, East Java, which faced challenges due to limited skills and knowledge in coffee pruning. A community-based agricultural extension program was implemented to enhance their technical capabilities and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP) for effective pruning. The objectives were to identify key issues in pruning practices, deliver targeted training, and evaluate the outcomes. Using a mixed-methods approach—comprising participatory observation, structured interviews, focus group discussions (FGD), and a pre-test/post-test comparison—the study assessed knowledge gains and training impact. A Likert-scale survey further measured participant satisfaction. Findings revealed four main issues: low SOP adherence, lack of training, poor tool maintenance, and plant morphological constraints. Post-intervention, participant knowledge rose from 49% to 97%, a 48% improvement. Additionally, 71.88% of respondents rated the training positively. This indicates that structured, practical training significantly improved pruning skills, contributing to better agricultural practices and productivity in smallholder communities.

Abstract

The Indonesian government launched the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program to provide higher education that is more inclusive, flexible and relevant for students in 2019. However, there are indications that students still need to understand the implementation and procedures of the MBKM. This research aims to determine perceptions of knowledge, implementation and student evaluation of MBKM. Survey activities were carried out by collecting descriptive data from active students with statement criteria of 4 scales (strongly agree, agree, disagree and disagree). More than 95% of the respondents strongly agreed and agreed with implementing MBKM. However, the survey results show that socialization regarding the MBKM program is needed. After conducting socialization of the same respondents, all respondents stated that they strongly agreed with the MBKM program and that the registration process and guidance for the MBKM program had been well carried out.

Abstract

This research program aimed to improve farmers’ understanding of the Jajar Legowo rice planting system and to analyze the factors influencing their perceptions. The program was conducted with the Sukatani Farmer Group in Tukdana Village, Indramayu Regency, using a mixed-method approach that combined observation, interviews, and questionnaires with 30 farmers. The results showed that farmers’ knowledge of the Jajar Legowo system was relatively low (54.17%), while their attitude was in the moderate category (58.92%). Correlation analysis revealed a strong relationship between knowledge and attitude (r = 0.672), which together shaped farmers’ perceptions of the system. Further analysis indicated that only land area had a significant influence on farmers’ perceptions, while age and education level showed no significant effect. Qualitative findings also revealed that farmers’ perceptions were influenced by direct farming experience, agricultural extension activities, institutional support, and social influence from leading farmers. Based on these findings, efforts to increase the adoption of the Jajar Legowo planting system require participatory extension strategies, hands-on demonstrations, and strengthened farmer group involvement.

Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of agricultural extension activities aimed at enhancing the knowledge of farmers of composting and good agricultural practices for avocados in Mulyaharja village, Bogor, West Java Province, conducted in October 2024. A total of 10 participants completed pre- and post-tests designed to measure their understanding of avocado cultivation and composting practices. Results showed a significant increase in knowledge regarding avocado cultivation, with scores rising from 64% to 79% post-intervention (P=0.049). However, the improvement in composting knowledge was minimal, increasing from 57% to 63%, which was not statistically significant (P=0.29). These findings indicate that targeted extension activities can effectively improve knowledge related to avocado farming while suggesting a need for more engaging methods to enhance composting knowledge. This research highlights the critical role of tailored extension services in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing the capabilities of farmers in the region.
