Abstract

This study aimed to describe the shape and meaning of the architectural design of the Buton house both from an emic and ethical perspective. The focus of the problem was: (1). What was the shape and pattern of the house layout of the Butonese people? (2). What was the meaning of the traditional house architecture of the Butonese people? The data were obtained through a series of interviews, non-participant observation, and document review. All data were analyzed through some stages: formulation of questions, making descriptive narratives, data reduction, application, and interpretation, then concluding. Based on an analysis of the research problem, the following conclusions were obtained: (1). The shape of the Buton house had an aesthetic meaning related to belief or the dimension of religiosity, in this case, Islam; (2). The patron or pattern of the Butonese house building had become part of their system of thinking, so that eventually it became something standards, such as the standard of spatial structure, shape, structure, and ornamentation. In subsequent developments, there appeared to be an internal effort by the Butonese to provide a new perspective on the meaning of the Buton house, leading to interpretations oriented to Islamic values. The form of houses on stilts as depicted in malige and kamali by the local community was interpreted as a replica of a Muslim performing the prayer ritual. The model of a tiled roof was analogous to the composition or position when he was praying, where the place of the right hand was above the left hand. Whereas in the perspective of political power, the tiled roof was a symbol of political and religious unity. Pineapple ornaments played a role as a symbol of monotheism. This symbol also is a manifestation of the religious ethics Butonese, who always direct their life to the values of monotheism.

Abstract

This article provided an anlytical description of the Muhammadiyah philanthropic movement to the Bajo community in Wakatobi. There were three important points hacked in this study, namely: (1). Why did Muhammadiyah choose the domain of education for its philatropical movement in the Bajo community? (2). what was the pattern of Muhammadiyah's educational philanthropic movement in the Bajo community? (3). what was the Bajo community's response to the Muhammadiyah-based pure Islamic education philanthropy movement? Data collection was done through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation. Analyzing data used hermeneutic phenomenology approach. The results showed that the choice of moving in the realm of education by the local Muhammadiyah community was due to the essence of the education movement as a fulcrum for determining the quality of human resources, on the other hand expensive quality education services made most Bajo children to choose to go to sea rather than go to school. The choice of educational philanthrophy by Muhammadiyah was also due to the psycho-social reality of local children who were suspected of "experiencing" an inferiority complex when they interacted with the mainland children's community. The philanthropic movement pattern implemented by the local Muhammadiyah community was based on the philanthropic social movement, namely to form awareness of the local community about the urgency of education for future life continuity by relying on a belief system or religious basis. The smart work of the Muhammadiyah community combined with the positive action approach made the pure Islamic idea could be transformed into the Bajo cultural space through education and teaching in a natural humanistic manner, without causing controversy. Abstract

A moon (qamar) is one of the heavens rotates the earth whose appearance changes keep pace with the sidereal and synodic movements. The movements provide significant impact on determining the first day of months in Qamariah calendar. Disagreement in determining the first day of months in Qamariah may be caused by differences in comprehending the first visible crescent moon (hilâl). The objective of the research is to provide understanding about the meanings of hilâl in the Qur’an verses and its implication in determining the first day of months in Qamariah. Thematic method in this research is used to gather the Qur’an verses containing the word “qamar” and “ahillah”, and the verses those are related to determination of the first day of months in Qamariah calendar, arrange them into chronological order and deepen the analysis using astronomical approach. The results show that hilâl is a part of phases of the moon appears in the first two or three nights and last of the month. And yet the hilâl that can be a reference in determining the first day of month is the crescent moon phase that first appears after conjuncture. The implication of hilâl meanings in determining the first day of months in qamariah makes a sign for humans to determine their times for prayers and social activities such as beginning and ending fasting of Ramadan, determining time for pilgrimage (ḥajj), determining ‘iddah period for Muslim women, purchase and sale, rental, cropping, and making arrangement or agreement.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze student perceptions regarding the role of teachers in classroom learning compared to online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic by applying a quantitative approach with a survey method. Population in this study was students throughout Indonesia who were actively learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.  The research used Cluster Sampling technique by distributing online forms to students studying at home in all provinces in Indonesia, from Aceh to Papua; while sampling was conducted by random system. Chi square data analysis was carried out to analyze the close relationship between two variables that had nominal data. The results showed that almost all respondents (683 students or 93.8% of them) preferred face-to-face learning with teachers, while a small portion of 45 respondents (6.2%) liked face-to-screen learning (online). Out of 728 respondents, 647 students (88.9%) thought that the teacher's role could not be replaced by technology, and 81 students (11.1%) thought that the teacher's role could be replaced by technology. Thus, it can be concluded that most students in Indonesia still preferred face-to-face learning in class. Inequality in the distribution of learning resources such as internet network and teacher competence became a major problem in online learning, especially for students who lived in rural and disadvantaged areas.
