Abstract

Establishing interpersonal relationships is an important task of early childhood. Harmonious interpersonal relationships will be achieved well if children have social-emotional competence, namely the ability to manage their own condition in order to maintain positive relationships with others. This study aims to determine the influence of mastery motivation towards social-emotional competence. This type of research is quantitative. The total sample was 417 children aged 5-6 years. Collecting data using a questionnaire filled out by teachers and parents. Data analysis using linear regression method with t-test obtained t test results of 3.776 and sig of 0.000. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is an influence of mastery motivation towards social-emotional competence. The magnitude of the influence of mastery motivation was 3.3%. Taking into account the effect of mastery motivation on low social-emotional competence, it is hoped that teachers and parents can foster mastery motivation so that social-emotional competence can be achieved more optimally.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The initial period of adjustment is something to be concerned about since it serves as a period, allowing to lay foundation for education which will contribute to children’s future academic life. It is not an easy period for children due to several school demands and expectations which should be fulfilled by children. To deal with this, children’s school readiness to attend their primary school is required. This qualitative research seeks to find out factors influencing children’s readiness to attend a primary school. The subjects of the research involved teachers and parents of children who planned to apply for admission into primary schools. The research results indicate that both teachers and parents of children shared the same perceptions regarding factors influencing the school readiness: cognitive and noncognitive factors. The former which involve reading, writing, and calculating skills are regarded significant since such skills are used as admission prerequisites for primary level in certain schools. Similarly, the latter are supposed to be important since they support children to successfully adjust to their primary school. Keywords: school readiness; primary school; children

Abstract

Well-being at school is the hope for all students, helping them to survive their time there. However, many pupils experience low levels of well-being, which has an impact on their psychological state and academic outcomes. The purpose of this study is to determine whether social support in schools can strengthen the well-being of high school students in Surabaya. The approach taken in the research is quantitative correlational study. Data collection was made using self-report questionnaires to measure school well-being, support in schools, and self-esteem. The participants were 220 high school students. Path analysis procedures were performed to address the hypothesis; the results show that teachers’ social support and friend social are related to direct and indirect school well-being mediated by self-esteem. The study suggests that students can improve their well-being through support from school and their own self-esteem, and that policymakers in schools, mainly school principals and teachers, can also improve such well-being. The limitations and implications of the findings are discussed for future research.

Abstract

Background: Dysmenorrhea is a symptom of pain experienced before or during menstruation. Based on literature review and previous research, the negative impact of basic education on adolescent girls has decreased quality of life by 80%. Good quality of life after experiencing primary dysmenorrhea with coping strategies and pain acceptance. This study aims to analyze the relationship between coping and acceptance with quality of life in adolescents with primary dysmenorrhea. Methods: This study uses analytical observational with a cross sectional approach. A sample of 43 students was obtained using simple random sampling at SMP PGRI Mekarmanik with the inclusion criteria of adolescent girls aged 13-16 years who had experienced menstruation in the last 3 months and experienced primary dysmenorrhea. Data collection was carried out online using a Google Form containing structured questionnaires WOC, CPAQ-8, WHO-QOLBRIEF and NPRS. Then analyze the data with Chi Square and Rank Spearman tests with a significance limit of 5%. Results: The percentage of respondents who experienced primary dysmenorrhea was 100% with the majority of moderate pain degrees 51.16%. There is no relationship between coping strategies and quality of life (p=0.897) because the majority of respondents use the EFC coping strategy, namely Emotional Focused Coping, where this strategy is used by people who are chronic and have low quality of life. There is a relationship between pain acceptance and quality of life (p = 0.006), it is found that high pain acceptance makes individuals adapt and reduce their attention to pain so as to optimize their daily functioning. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between coping strategies and quality of life, but there is a significant relationship between pain acceptance and quality of life.
