Abstract

Cases of depression in children and adolescents show high rates in Indonesia. According to Riskesdas (2018) adolescents (15–24 years) in Indonesia have a percentage of depression around 6.2% and according to the Yogyakarta branch of Ikatan Dokter Anak Indonesia or Indonesian pediatrician association revealed that 3% of school-aged children and 6% of adolescents experience major depressive disorder. This sizable number comes from the assumption of the public that depression does not occur in children and adolescents. Therefore, the provision of information that increases public knowledge about depression in children and adolescents must be carried out so that both early and curative interventions can be carried out so that in the long run, the prevalence of depression in children and adolescents is reduced. This effort uses two methods 1) disseminating information through Instagram content @semicolonial.id, and 2) digital campaigns via Instagram of each campaign participant. The increase in knowledge of campaign participants (N = 21, Range age = 14–50 years, Mage = 23.5) was measured using  pre-test and post-test. The data processing used a descriptive statistical data analysis through SPSS version 25. The results shows an increase in participants' knowledge before (Range = 40–100, Mean = 71.9) and after (Range = 60–110, Mean = 91.9) the campaign. In conclusion, this campaign was successful in increasing the knowledge of campaign participants about depression in children and adolescents.

Abstract

AbstractIn order to assist children's growth and development, the best parenting practices are required because stunting is still one of Indonesia's major health issues. However, numerous studies have revealed that fathers' engagement in child care in Indonesia is still incredibly low. The Self-Efficacy for Parenting Task Index Items (SEPTI) scale and a measuring tool created by the authors based on the theory of father involvement advanced by Day & Lamb are used in this study to examine the relationship between parenting self-efficacy and father involvement in stunting prevention. 50 father-like male subjects ranging in age from 20 to 43 years were included in this quantitative investigation. This quantitative study involved 50 male participants who acted as fathers with an age variation between 20-43 years. Parametric analysis using Pearson Product Moment was carried out to see the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. The results of the analysis show a positive correlation (r=0.714; p=0.000) which means that if parenting self-efficacy increases, involvement will increase. As an implication of this research, it is necessary to pay attention and encourage father's self-efficacy during parenting so that it can have an impact on increasing father involvement in childcare. Keywords: Social Parenting Self-Efficacy, Parenting Involvement, Stunting, Fathers.

Abstract

The career transition from undergraduate studies to the world of work is a very important step in career planning. During this transition period, career counseling is needed in assisting undergraduate students to achieve academic success and career readiness as has been written in several educational reforms such as the Blueprint for Reform from the US Department of Education in 2010 and No Child Left Behind in 2001 (Li, Mau, and Bray, 2017). One aspect that can affect career readiness is Career Decision-Making Self Efficacy (CDSE). This study aims to see the description of Career Decision-Making Self Efficacy of students in the career transition period. Counseling data was processed using a qualitative descriptive phenomenology method to see the meaning of undergraduate students in their Career Decision-Making Self Efficacy. The results of the study that showed a description of students' Career Decision-Making Self Efficacy are expected to be taken into consideration for holding activities aimed at improving students' Career Decision-Making Self Efficacy in the future.

Abstract

Abstract

Parental involvement plays a pivotal role in fostering early literacy skills. Understanding the factors influencing parental involvement is essential for promoting effective intervention in childhood. This study aims to identify and explore the determinants of parental involvement in early literacy development. The scoping review adheres to PRISMA guidelines from eight electronic databases: SAGE, Research Gate, Semantic Scholar, Google Scholar, Science Direct, Taylor and Francis, Scopus, and Springer. The criteria include research on parental involvement and early literacy, handling children aged 0-6 years and parents, and publishing original research articles and literature reviews. The search yielded 13 relevant studies. The analysis results show the following determinants of parental involvement in early literacy development: internal factors (i.e., parent depression, parent fidelity, parental genetics, parent's perspective, parent's support, parental positive motivation and belief, parental estimation, and parent expectation) and external factors (i.e., socioeconomic status, parents' education, parental literacy experience, family risk home literacy environment, and emergent literacy skills). The study results aim to inform targeted interventions to enhance parental involvement in early literacy across diverse contexts.

Abstract

It is essential for children in their early childhood to possess early literacy. Over the past decade, there has been relatively limited exploration of multisensory approaches to enhance literacy skills in early childhood. Consequently, this study aims to conduct a scoping review to identify and synthesize research supporting multisensory programs as an early literacy intervention for children. We conducted searches in seven databases that were published from 2012 to 2022, resulting in the inclusion of sixteen articles meeting the specified criteria. Our findings reveal several forms of multisensory programs that parents can carry out to improve early literacy skills: i) visual (e.g., drawing, interpreting the meaning of the words/sentences they read, playing with alphabet cards, reading words or sentences correctly, and reading labels on food and toy packaging); ii) auditory (e.g., singing, reading story books, mentioning letter sound symbols, spelling syllables, language activities, speeches, and storytelling); iii) kinesthetic (e.g., dividing words according to syllables in children using media strips, writing, clapping, marching, dancing, and drama); and iv) tactile (e.g., write the word with the index finger on the flannel/cloth). Most of the included studies employed experimental or quasi-experimental study designs. Thus, future studies are advised to incorporate randomized controlled trials.
