Abstract

This research is crucial in the context of the rising global prevalence of diabetes, a metabolic disorder that significantly affects public health. This study aims to determine the effect of salung leaf extract (Psychotria viridiflora) on blood glucose levels in hyperglycemic mice (Mus musculus). The study used 25 mice (Mus musculus) weighing 20-40 grams, divided into 5 treatment groups (P). Each group consisted of 5 mice, including a negative control, positive control, and three experimental groups with the administration of P. viridiflora extract at various doses (0.0112; 0.0225; and 0.0337 g/kgBW). Blood glucose measurements were conducted four times, on days 0, 6, 12, and 18, which included an initial glucose measurement, post-alloxan induction, and subsequent measurements after treatment. Among the three tested doses, the highest dose (0.0337 g/kg BW) proved to be the most effective in reducing blood sugar levels in alloxan-induced M. musculus, with effectiveness comparable to the standard drug Glibenclamide. Thus, the extract of P. viridiflora leaves shows strong potential as an alternative herbal antidiabetic therapy for M. musculus.

Abstract

The energy crisis due to declining fossil fuel reserves and the increase in organic waste, such as coffee husk waste in Kepahiang Regency, has prompted the need for renewable energy-based solutions. This research aims to develop a science learning module based on the local context through the integration of the concept of pyrolysis of coffee husk waste in the heat and its displacement material. The research method uses the ADDIE model until the validation stage. Data were collected through needs questionnaires and expert validation sheets, analyzed descriptively. The results showed the low interest and understanding of students in the caloric material, as well as the dominance of textual learning methods without direct practice. Most students stated the need for modules that are visual, contextual, and easy to understand. The modules developed are declared valid by experts from the material, linguistic, and graphic aspects. In conclusion, the integrated heat module for coffee skin waste pyrolysis is considered feasible as an innovative teaching material on the concept of heat contextually and applicatively.

Abstract

The low science literacy of students, especially in understanding temperature and heat materials, is a challenge in learning physics in schools. This material is often delivered theoretically without being associated with real life, so students have difficulty understanding concepts in their entirety. This research aims to develop a physics learning module on alternative energy-based temperature and heat materials from charcoal from wood and onion wood waste to improve students' science literacy. The research uses a 4D development model that is limited to the Define, Design, and Develop stages. The Define stage  includes curriculum analysis, identification of student learning difficulties, and exploration of local potential. The Design Stage  produces a contextual module design based on science literacy. At the Develop stage, the modules are validated by experts with results: 90% content aspect, 86% linguistics, and 95% presentation, with an average of 90% indicating the "Feasible" category. The module is considered to have high potential to support contextual learning and improve understanding of the concept of temperature and heat. Thus, this module is worthy of further testing to students in physics learning.

Abstract

Science learning in schools tends to be theoretical and less related to real contexts, so students have difficulty understanding the application of concepts in everyday life. One of the causes is the lack of teaching materials that integrate local wisdom. This study aims to examine the concepts of science in the local wisdom of making Batik Besurek to be developed as ethnoscience content in integrated science e-books and to determine the level of validity and student response to the product. The method used is research and development (R&D), according to Borg and Gall (1983), using the Model of Educational Reconstruction (MER) approach. Data were obtained through questionnaires, observations, and interviews. The results of the study showed that the process of making Batik Besurek contains the concepts of temperature and heat, expansion, changes in the state of matter, physical changes, heat transfer, and Black's principle, which can be integrated into the content of the Integrated Science Electronic Book. The developed electronic book obtained a very high level of validity with an average V index of 0.86 and a percent agreement of 89.27%. The students' response to the book was also excellent, with an average percentage of 89.42%. The results concluded that the Integrated Science electronic book containing the ethnoscience of Batik Besurek Bengkulu was considered valid teaching material worthy of being tested for effectiveness in future research.

Abstract

This community service aims to equip students and teachers of SMP IT Khoiru Ummah Rejang Lebong with knowledge about managing school gardens using household waste through ecoenzymes, natural boosters, and POC. This school has a large area of underutilized land, especially for organic waste management. Household waste is not managed correctly, and most of it is disposed of in landfills, even though it can be processed into valuable products. Converting organic waste into eco-enzymes is expected to reduce waste and create a greener, more environmentally friendly school ecosystem. This training was carried out from April to December 2024, by using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, divided into three stages: exploration, provision of materials and practice, and evaluation. The evaluation's student response data show that around 61% of students demonstrated excellent knowledge, 30% good, and 9% sufficient. The level of concern for the environment was very high. The success of this activity was measured by the level of participation and enthusiasm among participants, which reflected the objectives of community service: increasing awareness and skills in waste management. Further evaluation is needed to assess the long-term impacts and to determine how this activity can be implemented outside of school, thereby providing benefits to the surrounding community.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe wave height and wind speed in Bengkulu City over the last five years (2019–2024). This research employed a quantitative descriptive method. The data collection technique used secondary data obtained from documentation of the Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) of Bengkulu Province. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis techniques. The results indicate that wave height and wind speed along the coastal waters of Bengkulu City varied significantly from January to December during the years 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. The months with the highest potential for high waves were June, July, August, and September, with an average wave height of 3.5–4 meters and wind speeds of 20–25 knots. The lowest and moderate waves occurred in January, February, March, April, May, October, November, and December, with wave heights ranging from 1.5–3.5 meters and wind speeds of 6–15 knots.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The aim of this study is to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a learning media called MITEDA (Mitigation of Earthquake Damage), which is based on the STEM approach and computational thinking, to support the teaching of wave physics. The study focuses on both the development process of the media and its impact on improving students’ computational thinking skills through contextual problem-solving using earthquake simulation and sensor-based data. Methodology: The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model. Tools used include Arduino Uno, SW-420 vibration sensor, LCD 16x2, and a buzzer. Software includes Arduino IDE and Proteus. Data collection used expert validation sheets, student questionnaires, observations, and computational thinking tests. Main Findings: The MITEDA learning media, comprising a digital seismograph kit and instructional module, was rated “highly feasible” by experts (Aiken’s V ≥ 0.80) and received positive student feedback for usability and engagement. Statistical analysis showed a significant improvement in computational thinking skills for the experimental group (N-Gain = 0.84) compared to the control group (N-Gain = 0.56), t(69) = 8.875, p < 0.001, d = 2.716, with the highest gains in abstraction and consistent high-level algorithmic performance. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study presents an innovative learning media, MITEDA, integrating STEM and computational thinking through earthquake simulation using Arduino-based sensors. It advances wave physics learning by providing real-time vibration data and contextual problem-solving, enhancing students’ analytical skills.
