Science Learning Trends in Elementary Schools 2015–2025: A Review Siti Patonah; Aprilya Ihwal Atinah

Abstract

This study aims to identify trends in instructional models, research variables, learning materials, subject characteristics, and research outcomes in elementary science (IPA) education through a meta-analysis of 30 peer-reviewed articles published between 2015 and 2025. Articles were selected based on specific inclusion criteria and analyzed using descriptive qualitative content analysis. The findings reveal that Problem Based Learning (PBL) is the most frequently used instructional model (18 articles), consistently demonstrating effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes, critical thinking, motivation, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Other models used include Project Based Learning (6 articles), Discovery Learning (3 articles), and several others such as Inquiry-Based Learning and Teams Games Tournament. Most studies focus on cognitive variables, particularly learning outcomes and critical thinking, while affective aspects like motivation and scientific attitudes remain underexplored. Furthermore, several studies either vaguely reported or did not specify the learning materials used, indicating a gap in methodological reporting. In terms of subject characteristics, 73.30% of the studies did not mention gender composition, suggesting limited attention to student demographics. Despite these gaps, the overall analysis shows that the implementation of innovative learning models has a positive impact on elementary science education, especially in enhancing students’ academic performance. These findings highlight the importance of adopting student-centered learning approaches and improving research transparency in reporting instructional contexts and subject characteristics

Abstract

This empowerment is a dedication to the people of Mlatiharjo Village, Patean District, Kendal Regency as a form of the Partner Village Development Program. This empowerment aims to a) provide solutions to the problems of the community in the form of the abundant spice coffee garden with a distinctive aroma of herbs with a holistic approach to multi-disciplinary research; b) empowering typical spices of coffee beans to become spice coffee powder with high selling value; c) provide the potential strengthening of the Mlatiharjo Village community through the application of research results in the form of making various spices; and d) forming a guided village as the Aneka Aroma Spice Coffee Sentra Village as one of the science-techno-park models of Semarang PGRI University. The method in implementing the Village Partner Development Program is by collaborating between three parties to resolve partner problems, namely Semarang PGRI University, Dikti's DRPM and Kendal District Government. The results of empowerment activities are processing coffee spices to become high-value coffee grounds, granting coffee processing equipment, P-IRT permits for coffee powder products produced, business licenses in the form of coffee shops and coffee cafes in the area and outside Kendal City, articles scientific and scientific publications. Conclusions of empowerment activities carried out in Mlatiharjo Village were successful, without any constraints and it was hoped that processing of spice coffee beans could become Mlatiharjo Village as a Spice Coffee Sentra Village and improve the economy of the Mlatiharjo Village community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the STEM approach in science learning on improving the literacy and numeracy skills of fourth-grade students, especially in the material of the state of matter and its changes. Data collection in this study was carried out using multiple-choice tests at the beginning and end of learning. Data analysis was carried out according to quantitative data through calculating the average pre-test and post-test scores, by conducting descriptive statistical analysis tests, classical assumption tests in the form of normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests with the help of SPSS. The average pre-test score before the treatment was 15.05 to 24.68 in the post-test using the PjBL learning method. The results of this study indicate that students' literacy and numeracy skills increased significantly after the application of the STEM approach and the PjBL learning model. This is evidenced by the results of the paired t-test, namely sig <0.05 or 0.000 <0.05. Therefore, it is concluded that the use of the STEM approach has an impact on improving the literacy and numeracy skills of fourth-grade students of SDN 5 Ngawen.

Abstract

There are still many science learning practices that focus on memorization and do not relate the subject matter to real life or the local cultural context of students. Science is often perceived as a difficult and boring subject because it relies heavily on technical terms and abstract material. This study aims to         explore the potential implementation of     ethnoscience oriented learning in biotechnology material at the junior high school level. Data were collected through interviews with 11 science teachers from Sub Rayon 05 of Grobogan Regency and classroom observations involving 3 peer teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Ngaringan. The        interview was conducted using a Google Form-based questionnaire, while observation data were obtained through direct observation using a structured     observation sheet. The results showed that teachers had a good understanding of ethnoscience (78.7%), and the potential for    implementation was considered very high (84%). However, curriculum development remained the lowest aspect observed (67%). These findings indicate that while the conceptual understanding and enthusiasm of teachers toward ethnoscience are strong, effective implementation           requires systemic support, training, and curricular alignment.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan dan mengetahui validitas e-modul berbasis etnosains pada materi fisika fluida untuk kelas XI MIPA SMA/MA Semester gasal. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian dan pengembangan RnD dengan model Sugiyono yang terdiri dari tahapan potensi dan masalah, mengumpulkan informasi, desain produk, validasi produk, revisi produk, dan uji coba produk. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI MIPA dengan jumlah 22 siswa, 2 guru fisika di Ma An Nihdam Demak sebagai validator praktisi, dan 2 dosen Universitas PGRI Semarang sebagai validator ahli ahli bahan ajar. Hasil validasi ahli materi diperoleh presentase sebesar 79,4%, validasi ahli media diperoleh presentase sebesar 92,3%, hasil validasi praktisi diperoleh rata- rata presentase  94%   dan  respon  siswa diperoleh presentase sebesar 87,7%.  Hasil  penelitian menunjukan bahwa e-modul sudah memenuhi kriteria kualitas yang ditentukan, sehingga dapat digunakan dalam kegiatan pembelajaran fisik.
