Abstract

Cumulative exposure to solar UV radiation is linked to chronic skin and eye diseases such as skin cancer, photoaging, actinic keratosis, pterygium, cataracts, and possibly macular degeneration. This study aims to determine farmers' knowledge about UV rays on eye health in anticipating the dangers of excessive UV rays and increase farmer awareness of the sources and risks of UV rays for eye health. The method used is a literature review to examine the effects of UV Lights on the health and productivity of farmers in more depth. This literature search was conducted until March 19, 2023, using the PubMed and Science Direct article search engines, with the following search terms using the BOOLEAN Operator technique: "UV Light effects" AND "Farmer," "UV Rays" AND "Farmer," "Heat Effects" AND "Farmer." The analysis carried out in this study concluded that outdoor workers (PL), especially those working in sectors such as agriculture, construction, and fishing, are at high risk of exposure to the harmful effects of UV rays. Fishermen and farmers have a higher risk of cataracts due to excessive UV exposure to the eyes. One of the prevention efforts that can be done is health promotion regarding farmers' knowledge about UV light on eye health in anticipating the dangers of excessive UV light and increasing farmer awareness about the sources and risks of UV light for eye health. Health workers, especially nurses, can provide health services through supportive therapy to overcome physical and psychological problems in cataract patients and helps anticipate the dangers of UV rays at work.

Abstract

Healthy perception is an individual process to interprete the stimulus received by the sense organs, which related to a healthy state that stimulated individuals to adjust behavior as expectation. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between healthy perceptions based on the theory of health belief models and behavior to maintain normal blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes patients. A cross-sectional design was performed 112 respondents using the purposive sampling. The data was collected using the health belief model and the behavior to maintain blood glucose levels questionnaire. Spearman rank test was used to analyse the objective the study. The results showed that the mode value of healthy perception was 108 and median value was 106,5 , with a minimum value of 86 and a maximum value of 119. While the mode value of behavior maintaining blood glucose levels was 27 and median value was 27,5 with a minimum value of 23 and a maximum value of 33. There was a significant correlation between healthy perception behavior of maintaining blood glucose levels (p = <0.011 and r = 0.239) with a low positive correlation between the two variables. It shows that the higher the perception of health, the higher the behavior of maintaining blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Nurses suggested to use the health belief model theory to clarify the perception of type 2 diabetes patients that can influence patients to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Abstract

The increasing use of gadgets among preschool-aged children has become a growing concern for parents and educators. This study examines the relationship between parental knowledge levels and the intensity of gadget usage given to preschool-aged children. A cross-sectional design was employed, involving 52 parents of preschool-aged children selected through purposive sampling in an urban community. Data were collected using structured questionnaires that assessed parental knowledge levels regarding gadget usage and the frequency with which gadgets were provided to their children. Parental knowledge was categorized as either "adequate" or "inadequate," while gadget usage intensity was measured based on daily screen time reported by the parents. Statistical analysis was performed using Spearman's rank correlation test to determine the association between the two variables. The results revealed a significant relationship between parental knowledge levels and the intensity of gadget usage (p = 0.017). Parents with inadequate knowledge were more likely to allow higher gadget usage among their children compared to those with adequate knowledge. These findings suggest that enhancing parental awareness and understanding of the potential risks associated with excessive gadget exposure is crucial in promoting healthier developmental environments for preschool-aged children. Future interventions should focus on educating parents about appropriate gadget use and alternative activities to minimize screen time and support optimal child development.

Abstract

One indicator of the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS prevention can be measured by the role of stakeholders involved in the HIV/AIDS prevention program. The obstacles are that there are still unequal perceptions of interest regarding the target group from each stakeholder in developing HIV/AIDS prevention programs and a lack of coordination between internal and external agencies, so there has been no effort to integrate programs between agencies. The purpose of this activity is to optimize the role of stakeholders in HIV AIDS prevention in Jember. This activity was carried out in stages (1) presenting material on "The Role of Stakeholders in HIV AIDS Response" and questions and answers related to the material presented, as well as (2) Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to discuss the implementation of the role of stakeholders in HIV AIDS response. The results of this activity show that stakeholders could understand the national strategy in dealing with HIV AIDS; stakeholders understood their role in HIV AIDS prevention, and stakeholder groups stated that they would help in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Definitive policy recommendations issued by local governments related to stakeholder involvement in HIV AIDS response.

Abstract

Learning process in university must be conducted with the principle of Student Centered Learning (SCL). SCLhas several components that could influence the implementation of SCL. The purpose of this study was toidentify the implementation of SCL in Nursing Faculty of Jember University. This study used a descriptiveexploratory design with purposive sampling technique on 26 lecturers and stratified sampling techniques for 260students. The results showed that the implementation of SCL to lecturers reached 81.7% (from a maximum valueof 33) and the implementation of SCL to students reached 80.19% (from a maximum of 36). This shows theimplementation of SCL in terms of students and lecturers having a good score. The lowest score for lecturerswas the class condition (68.4%) and the lowest value for students was the teaching material (71%). Lack offacilities could have an impact on the disruption of the learning process using SCL so that students and lecturersdid not get maximum results. Institutions are expected to be able to renew their collection of books and classconditions can be further optimized by reducing the number of students to 25 students in each class.

Abstract

Crop failure often happens to farmers, so they are vulnerable to considerable losses, and farmers experience psychosocial disorders such as stress, sadness, and anxiety due to crop failure. When facing crop failure, it is necessary to have a stress-coping strategy to help farmers control their emotions. The method used was a literature review, with a search using three databases, namely Google Scholar, Pubmed, and ScienceDirect, using the keywords psychosocial, farmers, crop failure, and coping mechanisms. The journal articles used for review were 10 journals, with four international and six national journals. Psychosocial pressure on farmers is marked by increased stress in the form of anxiety, disappointment, low self-esteem, antisocial behavior, and loss of motivation to return to farming. Stress coping mechanisms carried out by farmers are perfect for controlling farmers facing crop failure. Besides, farmers have different coping mechanisms; for example, some do their favorite hobbies to distract their minds; on the other hand, some choose relaxation therapy and pray to calm their minds. Stress coping management is effective in helping farmers manage emotions when experiencing crop failure; many farmers can control stress when experiencing crop failure even though they divert it to something positive and some to something negative. In addition to crop failure, stress-coping management strategies can also overcome problems related to farmers' work.

Abstract

Introduction: The involvement of pregnant women in agricultural activities causes pregnant women to be exposed to chemicals contained in pesticides, which will have an impact on the health of pregnant women, especially on reproductive health, which can pose a risk of low birth weight babies. This study aimed to determine the relationship between pesticide exposure and the incidence of low birth weight in agricultural areas. Methods: This research was conducted using the literature review technique; the literature search process used three databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct, with a publication range from 2020-2024. Results: Pesticide exposure in female farmers influences a determinant of LBW, namely participation in agricultural activities; some articles found that there was no relationship between pesticide exposure and the incidence of LBW; this is because the participation of mothers in agricultural activities is mostly not too long so that the intensity of pesticide exposure in the majority of mothers is still low, in addition, exposure non-organophosphate pesticides had more impact on skin problems in infants rather than low birth weight. Conclusions: Pesticide exposure during pregnancy influences the incidence of LBW; the role of nurses is needed in raising awareness of farmers and their families such as the use of personal protective equipment, managing pesticides according to standards, avoiding direct contact with someone who is bound by pesticides, and storing pesticides out of reach.
