Abstract

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to address the challenge that mathematics is often perceived as a difficult and abstract subject at the elementary level. For this purpose, an innovative strategy was implemented through the Counting Flower Project using the Project Based Learning (PjBL) Model with 8 second-grade students at SD 1 St. Yohanes Tomohon. The project serves as a concrete medium integrating the concept of addition up to 20 with the art of drawing flowers, where students visualize the arithmetic operation as the merging of two sets of numbers represented by two different colors on the flower petals. Quantitative results indicate the success of the intervention, marked by a class mean score reaching 79.37 and a classical completion percentage of 75%. This achievement surpassed the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM) of 75. The use of this project-based visual media was effective in bridging the abstract conceptual understanding of addition , while simultaneously fostering the Pancasila Student Profile characteristics (Creativity, Independence, and Collaboration) in students. Although two students still required further assistance , the findings affirm the crucial role of creative visual media in enhancing student motivation and learning outcomes at the elementary education level.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the implementation of the nutritious food program policy at Kartika Elementary School in Manado and analyze its impact on student health and eating habits. A qualitative case study approach was used, involving the principal, teachers, kitchen staff, and students as informants. Data were obtained through observations of communal mealtimes and in-depth interviews. The results indicate that the nutritious food program has been implemented quite well through the provision of balanced menus, regular meal schedules, and simple nutrition education incorporated into lessons. Teachers play an active role in monitoring and accompanying students during meals to ensure daily nutritional needs are met. The positive impact of this program is evident in increased student interest in healthy foods, increased energy during learning, and the development of better eating habits. However, several challenges remain, such as budget constraints, delays in food delivery, and menu variations that are not fully suited to student preferences. Improvements have been made by adjusting menus, coordinating with food providers, and increasing outreach to parents. Overall, the implementation of the nutritious food program policy at Kartika Elementary School in Manado is considered quite successful, supporting student health and readiness to learn

Abstract

This study aims to compare the elementary education curricula implemented in Indonesia and the Philippines, focusing on curriculum structure, learning approaches, educational goals, and core subjects taught at the primary school level. The background of this research is rooted in the importance of understanding the differences in educational systems within Southeast Asia to identify opportunities for collaboration and quality improvement through the exchange of best practices between countries. The study was conducted through a literature review and analysis of official documents from each country's Ministry of Education, along with secondary references from international organizations such as UNESCO and SEAMEO. The findings show that although both countries have a six-year duration for elementary education, there are fundamental differences in their curriculum approaches, where Indonesia currently implements the Merdeka Curriculum emphasizing the Pancasila student profile and differentiated instruction, while the Philippines adopts the K to 12 Curriculum focusing on core competencies and 21st-century skills development. The Indonesian curriculum tends to emphasize contextual learning and local wisdom, whereas the Philippine curriculum integrates an outcome-based education approach with standardized national benchmarks. The conclusion of this study suggests that both countries possess unique strengths and challenges, and mutual learning from each other's curriculum policies could serve as a strategic step in enhancing the quality of elementary education across Southeast Asia.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the deep learning approach and interactive digital board media on elementary school students’ learning motivation. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a posttest-only control group design. The sample consisted of 40 fifth-grade students divided into an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire consisting of 30 items measuring six indicators of learning motivation. The results showed that the experimental group had a higher mean score (136.50) compared to the control group (127.20). The independent sample t-test revealed a significant difference (t = 4.249; p < 0.001), indicating that the integration of deep learning and interactive digital boards significantly improves students’ motivation. The effect size analysis using Cohen’s d resulted in a value of 1.34, categorized as a large effect. These findings suggest that combining deep learning approaches with interactive digital media creates a more engaging and meaningful learning environment, significantly enhancing students' motivation. Therefore, integrating digital technology with student-centered pedagogy is highly recommended in elementary education.
