Abstract

This research aims to show the archetypes that occur in the Speak Graphic Novel. The purpose of this research is to analyze the archetypes of the main characters in the oral graphic novel by Laurie Halse. This research applies Carl Gustaf Jung's archetype theory. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. Data collection was carried out through four steps: reading, recording, analyzing data, and identifying data. The results of this research show that the Speak Graphic Novel shows the existence of two personas, five animus, one shadow, and one self archetype, before reaching the self archetype Melinda experiences an individualization process, in this graphic novel individualization appears when Melinda neutralizes this. things that cause him to use a persona and have to face the shadow that appears by providing real resistance to Andy who has been pressuring and threatening him. Another thing that helped the individualization process was Melinda's decision to accept the fact that she had made a mistake and forgive herself. Based on the results above, it can be concluded that in this novel the archetype is shown in full, starting from the details of the cause of the archetype's emergence to the start of the individualization process as a form of Melinda's effort to control or eliminate the cause of the archetype's emergence, which in the end causes the main character to achieve a self-archetype.

Abstract

The importance of self-control in society is to direct someone in a better direction, avoid committing crimes and can make someone get a new identity. This research used psychoanalysis theory of Sigmund Freud especially the id, ego and superego. The methodology of this research was qualitative descriptive, the data come from the movie entitle The Wrath of  Becky. Data for this research was collected by watching, taking notes, identifying and then analyzing by presenting, describing and interpreting the data, as well as concluding the results of the analysis. From the results of the analysis, researcher found that the movie has a psychoanalytic aspect to the main character Becky, so that this movie has aspects of id, ego and superego. Becky's self-control was successful because the researcher found that Becky's personality was dominated by the role of the superego which can accommodate the desires of the id so that Becky did not take actions that were detrimental to herself and the people around her. Becky chose to obey the rules and the norms that exist in society. Of the three aspects of Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis, it turned out that they are all covered in the movie  The Wrath of Becky. Becky clearly reflects these aspects through her dialogue, facial expressions and her actions. Based on the above results, it can be concluded that Becky's self-control can make her not commit the crime and also that self-control makes Becky look like a teenager in general who does not have mental disorders.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of verbal harassment against female tourists using a pragmatic analysis approach. The focus of this study is the interaction between a South Korean YouTuber, Jiah, and two local men in Bunaken, North Sulawesi. This study uses speech theory (Austin & Searle), speech implicature (Grice), and politeness in language (Brown & Levinson) to examine how everyday speech can encode the implicit meaning of harassment. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with pragmatic discourse analysis techniques. Data was obtained from Jiah's video transcript entitled "Become a Friend with the Om | To Bunaken from Manado". The results showed that male speakers used directive and interrogative forms of speech to control conversations and suppress opponents. Violation of the maxim of relevance and manner of giving rise to harassing implications, accompanied by violation of the principle of linguistic politeness. This phenomenon reveals power imbalances and gender bias in cross-cultural interactions. This study confirms that language serves a social function as a tool of symbolic domination, and opens up a new discussion space regarding the ethics of public communication in the tourism sector.
