Abstract

The history of the Indonesian nation's journey, cannot be separated from the role of the Muslim community, especially in the struggle to expel invaders from the face of the Indonesian earth. Through the education sector, Islamic leaders established Islamic education to strengthen the foundations of religion and for the people to fight the education system brought by the Dutch colonialists. The Islamic education system is the only formal education that has its own system and management which is different from the education system brought by the Netherlands. The Dutch government regulations that are so strict and harsh on the activities of madrassas and Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, do not make Islamic education paralyzed and in ruins. On the other hand, the spirit of Islam was still well preserved, where the ulama and kyai were non-cooperative with the Dutch and they moved away from places close to the Dutch. Similar pressure was experienced by the Islamic education system during the Japanese education era. Where the Japanese government requires teachers to learn Japanese and obliges the Tenno (Emperor) to respect. The strength of the principles of Islamic educator leaders has shown the ability of Islamic education to survive in accordance with Islamic principles, without the influence of any power that is in power.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the optimal strategy for implementing the Merdeka Belajar (Freedom of Learning) Curriculum based on active learning and technology in order to improve the competence of the younger generation in the Society 5.0 era. The Merdeka Curriculum is a form of educational transformation that offers flexibility, project-based learning, and character building and technological literacy. Through a literature review method, this study collects and analyses various national and international literature sources relevant to the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, active learning, technology integration, and the competency needs of the 21st century generation. The results of the study indicate that the optimisation strategy involves strengthening teacher competencies, utilising digital learning technology, developing project-based and differentiated learning models, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. However, its implementation in the field still faces various challenges such as infrastructure limitations, low digital literacy, and readiness gaps between regions. Therefore, systemic and collaborative efforts are needed to realise an effective Merdeka Curriculum, so that it can produce Pancasila-based learner profiles who are ready to face the dynamics of Society 5.0.

Abstract

The development of digital technology demands a paradigm shift in education, particularly in preparing young people to master 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and digital literacy. This study aims to analyse the implementation of coding and artificial intelligence (AI) integration in primary school curricula as a strategy to improve these skills. The research method used is a literature review. The results indicate that the integration of coding and AI can strengthen both technical and soft skills among students, despite challenges such as infrastructure limitations and teacher readiness. This study recommends the development of age-appropriate learning materials, intensive teacher training, and equitable access to technology to ensure effective and sustainable integration. Thus, the integration of coding and AI in primary schools is a crucial investment in cultivating adaptive and competent generations in the digital age.

Abstract

This article explores ways to address disparities in education through a multisectoral approach, drawing on a review of international literature. Disparities in education, which are influenced by socio-economic, geographical, gender and physical ability factors, require holistic solutions that involve various sectors such as health, economy and society. The review emphasises the importance of policies that not only focus on infrastructure and curriculum but also provide social and financial support for disadvantaged groups. In addition, sustainable and data-driven programme planning is needed to identify the groups most in need of interventions and the types of interventions that are most effective. By adopting this approach, education policy can be more dynamic and responsive to challenges, potentially significantly reducing educational disparities.

Abstract

This research examines the comparative effectiveness of digital and traditional learning in developing countries with the aim of understanding the advantages and challenges of each method in this context. Digital learning offers flexibility and broad access to resources, allowing students to learn at their own pace and cultivate technological skills. However, constraints such as limited technological infrastructure and lack of training for teachers often act as barriers. Meanwhile, traditional learning remains the top choice as face-to-face interaction supports stronger emotional connections and allows for direct customisation to student needs, although it is limited in its appeal and static information. Therefore, many developing countries have started to adopt a hybrid approach that combines the advantages of both methods. The results show that improving the overall quality of education requires investment in digital infrastructure, training for educators, and collaborative support from the government, educational institutions and communities.

Abstract

This study addresses gender differences in literacy and numeracy achievement through a critical review of existing literature. The results show that females tend to excel in literacy, while males often do better in numeracy. Factors influencing these differences include gender stereotypes, social support, pedagogical methods, and individual interests and motivation. This study emphasises the importance of a more gender- responsive and inclusive approach to education to reduce this achievement gap. Recommended strategies include equal interest coaching, gender stereotype awareness programmes and active involvement of parents and the school community. This will create a supportive learning environment for all students, thereby improving overall literacy and numeracy achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the role of inclusive education in reducing learning gaps between students from different economic backgrounds using a literature review method. A systematic review of various sources, such as books, scientific journals, articles, and relevant policy documents, was conducted to gain a comprehensive understanding of the practices, challenges, and strategies of inclusive education in various contexts. The results of the literature study indicate that inclusive education contributes to expanding access to quality education for all students, especially economically disadvantaged groups, through adaptive policies such as fee subsidies, exemption from infaq (voluntary donations), and the use of affordable educational technology. However, its effectiveness is still influenced by factors such as limited teacher competence, uneven infrastructure, and social and cultural resistance in the school environment. Thus, inclusive education supported by progressive policies, continuous teacher training, and multi-stakeholder collaboration can be an effective strategy to narrow learning gaps and promote educational equity

Abstract

This study aims to explore the optimisation of student interest and talent development through the selection of intraschool learning and thematic projects in the Merdeka Curriculum. The method used is a literature review, analysing various scientific references, books, policy documents, and research findings related to the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in schools. The Merdeka Curriculum provides freedom and flexibility to students to choose subjects, learning pathways, and involvement in thematic projects based on the Pancasila Student Profile, thereby facilitating the strengthening of students' interests and talents individually. Through a combination of adaptive intraschool learning and thematic projects based on collaboration and creativity, the development of students' potential is expected to be optimal. However, implementation in the field still faces challenges in terms of teacher readiness, facilities, assessment, and parent participation. This study highlights the importance of synergy among stakeholders as well as policy innovation and teacher training to ensure the success of interest and talent development in a dynamic, adaptive, and child-centred educational ecosystem.

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the relationship between curriculum and education policy in efforts to improve the quality of human resources (HR) in Indonesia. Using a literature review approach, this study analyses theories, concepts, and previous research findings related to curriculum development, education policy formulation, and their implications for HR quality. The findings indicate that synergy between adaptive curricula and responsive education policies is a key factor in shaping competent, innovative, and competitive human resources in the global era. Strategic policies that emphasise the relevance of curricula, the professionalism of educators, and equitable access to education can accelerate the sustainable transformation of human resource quality. This study recommends the need for evaluation and cross-sectoral collaboration in curriculum and policy development to produce high-quality human resources that align with societal needs and national development demands.
