Abstract

This study aims to measure and analyze the level of STEM literacy among prospective physics educators using Rasch measurement theory. A quantitative approach with a descriptive design was employed. The research instrument consisted of a STEM literacy test comprising multiple-choice questions and essays, and the data were analyzed using Winstep software version 5.7.1 to assess the validity and reliability of the measurement instrument. The results reveal that only a small number of prospective physics educators exhibit very high STEM literacy, while the majority demonstrate moderate to low levels of competencies and attitudes toward STEM literacy. The measurement instrument was confirmed to be valid and reliable according to Rasch parameters. These findings highlight the need for targeted interventions to enhance digital literacy, multidisciplinary skills, technology integration, and scientific competence among aspiring educators. Educational institutions are thereby urged to better prepare future educators to teach and promote STEM literacy effectively among students.

Abstract

Weight gain is one of the side effects that birth control acceptors often worry about, especially users of hormonal methods such as progestin injections and implants. This concern is reasonable because several studies show that the use of hormonal contraception can increase the risk of weight gain. This study aims to compare the use of progestin injections and implants on weight gain based on Body Mass Index (BMI) in family planning acceptors in Muara Enim Regency in 2024. The research sample consists of 266 respondents who are acceptors of birth control injections and implants, with an observational analytical research design using a case control design. The sample size was determined using the G-Power Software application Version 3.1.6 with correlation and regression tests. The results of the analysis show that family planning acceptors with progestin injectable contraceptives have a 1.68 times greater chance of experiencing abnormal weight gain (obesity) compared to family planning acceptors who use implants (95% CI 1.021-2.752). It is hoped that the results of this research can be used as a reference for midwives to provide education regarding the negative impact of weight gain on family planning acceptors, so that they can inform more appropriate hormonal contraceptive choices.

Abstract

Various biological factors influence the acceleration of the age of menarche in female students aged 13-14 years. These factors include exposure to pornographic media, excess body weight, consumption of fast food, nutritional status, history of maternal age at menarche, sexual knowledge, height, and family economic status. Early exposure to sexual content and a high-fat diet can accelerate sexual maturity through changes in hormone production, while nutritional status and history of maternal age at menarche are also associated with accelerated menarche. This research involved 85 class VII female students who were selected purposively to analyze the influence of these factors on the age of menarche. Data was collected through questionnaires and physical measurements, then analyzed using the Chi-square test. The results show that exposure to pornographic media, excess body weight, consumption of fast food, nutritional status, and history of the mother's age at menarche have a significant influence on accelerating the age of menarche (p-value < 0.05). On the other hand, height, sexual knowledge and family economic status did not have a significant effect (p-value > 0.05). It is recommended that parents and schools limit teenagers' access to pornographic media and encourage healthy lifestyles to prevent acceleration of the age menarche.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Kolb Learning method in preventing baby blues syndrome in postpartum mothers through a neurobiological approach. Baby blues syndrome is often caused by a sudden drop in hormones after giving birth, which can affect the new mother's neurobiological balance and mental health. Providing public education through the Kolb Learning method, which emphasizes experience-based learning and understanding of biological changes after childbirth, is expected to be able to prevent this disorder. This quasi-experimental research involved 120 postpartum mothers, divided into two groups: control and treatment in each BPM. The research results showed that the Kolb Learning method was significantly effective in preventing baby blues syndrome, with 100% of respondents in the treatment group not experiencing the syndrome. The simple t-test showed significant results with a p value = 0.000, strengthening the effectiveness of this intervention. These findings indicate that a neurobiological approach using the Kolb Learning method can be an effective intervention to prevent baby blues syndrome during the postpartum period. Therefore, it is recommended that this method be integrated into antenatal education programs to improve the psychological and biological well-being of mothers after giving birth.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the trend of extreme temperatures in Kalimantan over the past few decades. The data used are daily temperatures from meteorological stations in West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan, with an observation period of January 1985 to December 2022. The research methodology involves four main stages: data collection, extreme temperature index calculation, trend detection, and correlation analysis with ENSO and IOD. The results showed an increasing trend in extreme temperatures (warming). The increase in mean annual maximum temperature (TXmean) ranged from 0.03°C to 2°C per century, while the mean annual minimum temperature increased from 0.2°C to 0.5°C per century. Monthly maximum value of daily max temperature (TXx) the increasing trend ranged from 0.19°C to 1.7°C, monthly maximum value of daily min temperature (TNx) increased from 0.1°C to 0.5°C. The monthly mean difference between daily max and min temperature (DTR) also shows an increase of 0.5°C to 1.7°C. This trend indicates that daytime (TXmean, TXx) and nighttime (TNmean, TNx) conditions in Kalimantan, especially in West, Central, and South Kalimantan, are getting hotter, with the daytime experiencing a more significant increase in temperature. The correlation between the extreme temperature index and ENSO and IOD is negative and positive, indicating that ENSO and IOD do not fully influence the increase in extreme temperatures. These findings have important implications for disaster mitigation planning and adaptation to climate change in the Kalimantan region.
