Abstract

This study aimed to describe the implementation of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based learning evaluation in developing elementary school students’ critical thinking skills. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design and was conducted at UPT SPF SDN Mongonsidi 3 Makassar. The research informant was a classroom teacher as the main source of data. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, while data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the teacher had implemented HOTS-based evaluation through the use of narrative questions, case studies, and problem-solving tasks that required students to analyze, reason, and make decisions. HOTS questions were integrated into each evaluation activity and adjusted to students’ abilities. Students’ responses indicated that some students were able to answer the questions appropriately; however, most students still experienced difficulties in understanding the meaning of the questions and expressing their ideas in written form. The challenges faced by the teacher included students’ limited ability to comprehend higher-order thinking questions and the need for deeper competence in designing HOTS-based evaluation instruments. To address these challenges, the teacher provided stimuli, guidance, and additional explanations to help students understand the context of the questions without directly giving the answers. It can be concluded that HOTS-based learning evaluation contributes to the development of elementary school students’ critical thinking skills, although its implementation still requires continuous practice for students and enhanced teacher competence to achieve optimal results.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low mathematics learning outcomes of first-grade elementary school students, particularly on the topic of pictograph diagrams. The low learning outcomes were presumed to be caused by students' learning difficulties in understanding pictograph diagrams. This study aimed to identify students learning difficulties on the topic of pictograph diagrams and to analyze the factors contributing to these difficulties. The study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The research participants consisted of first-grade students and their classroom teacher at SDN Sendangguwo 02. Data were collected through observation, tests, and interviews, and were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The trustworthiness of the data was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that students experienced learning difficulties related to visual perception, language comprehension, attention and memory, and spatial relationships. The factors contributing to these learning difficulties consisted of internal and external factors. Internal factors included limited cognitive ability in understanding pictograph concepts, difficulty in comprehending problem instructions, and limited memory capacity. External factors included a lack of parental assistance during home study and students' tendency to spend more time playing than studying. Based on the findings, teachers are encouraged to use visual media, concrete objects, and continuous practice accompanied by remedial instruction to help overcome students' learning difficulties. Future researchers are expected to investigate the effectiveness of various instructional strategies or learning media in addressing mathematics learning difficulties among elementary school students.

Abstract

Conceptual understanding in Integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS) is one of the essential competencies emphasized in the Merdeka Curriculum. However, classroom instruction in elementary schools is still predominantly teacher-centered, limiting students' active engagement and conceptual understanding. This study aimed to examine the effect of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) model integrated with Deep Learning on elementary school students' conceptual understanding of IPAS. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design. The research involved 60 fifth-grade students from elementary schools in Cluster VII, Buleleng District, Indonesia. The sample consisted of 32 students in the experimental group and 28 students in the control group, selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using a conceptual understanding test that had met validity and reliability requirements. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including normality, homogeneity, normalized gain (N-Gain), and the Independent Samples t-test. The results revealed that the experimental group's mean score increased from 66.16 to 93.97, with an N-Gain of 0.80 (84%), categorized as effective, whereas the control group's mean score increased from 58.39 to 71.93, with an N-Gain of 0.30 (31%), categorized as ineffective. Hypothesis testing indicated a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05). These findings demonstrate that the Team Games Tournament model integrated with Deep Learning significantly improves elementary school students' conceptual understanding of IPAS. The study suggests that combining cooperative learning with deep learning principles provides more active, collaborative, and meaningful learning experiences and can serve as an effective instructional alternative for implementing the Merdeka Curriculum. Kata kunci: Team Games Tournament, Deep Learning, conceptual understanding, IPAS, elementary school.

Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to improve student learning outcomes in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning through the Game-Based Learning (GBL) model in Grade IV of SDN 18 Kampung Baru, Padang. The research followed the Kemmis and Mc Taggart action research design, implemented in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection, with 25 fourth-grade students as research subjects. Data were collected through test and non-test instruments and analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The initial condition showed that only 40% of students (10 of 25) achieved the minimum mastery criterion (KKTP) of 80, with a class average of 73.16. After the implementation of GBL, the teaching module score increased from 75% (fair) in Cycle I to 93.8% (very good) in Cycle II, teacher and student activity increased from 75% to 96.9%, and student learning outcomes improved from an average of 68.1 (Cycle I, Meeting 1) to 88.3 (Cycle II) across the affective, cognitive, and psychomotor domains, exceeding the classical success indicator of 80%. These findings indicate that the Game-Based Learning model effectively increases student engagement and learning outcomes in elementary IPAS instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of gross motor skills in early childhood aged 5–6 years through Gambyong dance activities at TK Tunas Mekar Surakarta. The research is motivated by the fact that many children still show low gross motor abilities, such as limited balance, coordination, body control, agility, and flexibility during physical activities. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the study focuses on understanding children’s experiences while participating in Gambyong dance and how these activities stimulate gross motor development. Data were collected through participant observation, semi‑structured interviews with teachers and school principals, and documentation in the form of photos, videos, and school records. The subjects were five children aged 5–6 years who regularly took part in Gambyong dance sessions twice a week using purposive sampling. The findings show that the implementation of Gambyong dance, carried out through stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation, is able to stimulate improvements in children’s balance, coordination of hand–foot movements, body control, locomotor and non‑locomotor skills, strength, agility, and movement flexibility. Children become more confident, more active in participating in movement activities, and increasingly able to follow rhythmic patterns and movement sequences demonstrated by the instructor. Thus, Gambyong dance functions not only as cultural preservation but also as an effective medium to support gross motor development in early childhood education settings.

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media has transformed the dissemination of Islamic teachings, including tarbawi hadiths related to education, morality, and character building. Platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and WhatsApp have become major channels for spreading religious content. However, many hadiths circulating on social media are shared without sanad verification, potentially leading to the spread of weak or unauthentic hadiths. This study aims to analyze the relevance of sanad criticism in responding to the phenomenon of viral tarbawi hadiths on social media. This research employed a qualitative approach using library research methods. Data were collected from digital da’wah content, scholarly journals, and literature related to hadith studies and sanad criticism, particularly from the perspective of Muhammad Mustafa al-Azami. The findings reveal that several viral tarbawi hadiths on social media lack clear sanad validity and are often disseminated without reliable references. Sanad criticism remains relevant as a scientific method for verifying hadith authenticity in the digital era while also strengthening digital religious literacy and encouraging critical attitudes toward religious information on social media.

Abstract

Campus Ministry is an important part of the mission of higher education because it supports students’ faith growth through concrete spiritual experiences. This study aims to describe the role of Campus Ministry at Universitas Nusa Nipa in fostering and developing students’ faith through practical spiritual activities, namely the Unipa Go Jesus Retreat, cell group discussion, daily Mass, adoration, Catholic charismatic prayer fellowship, and spiritual weekend programs. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving Campus Ministry coordinators, spiritual mentors, and students. The findings show that Campus Ministry functions not only as an organizer of religious activities but also as a space for faith accompaniment, spiritual strengthening, character formation, and the development of student fellowship. These practical spiritual activities support students’ faith growth through personal spiritual experience, habitual spiritual practice, and the strengthening of faith community, although their implementation is influenced by supporting and inhibiting factors. This study confirms that Campus Ministry is an important instrument in realizing integral education in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an interactive flipbook based on local wisdom stories to support critical reading instruction at SD Negeri 4 Antiga Kelod. This is a research and development study using the ADDIE model. The subjects of this study include sixth-grade students and sixth-grade teachers at SD Negeri 4 Antiga Kelod, as well as content validation experts and media validation experts. The data collection methods used in this study were interviews and questionnaires, employing written interview forms and closed-ended questionnaire forms. Data analysis in this study included qualitative descriptive analysis to process the interview data, as well as validity testing to process the data from the expert validation. The results of the study indicate that (1) students and teachers expect literacy materials that combine images, colors, animations, and stories closely tied to their cultural environment, such as Balinese folktales; (2) based on this, an interactive flipbook supported by local wisdom stories was developed, titled “Satua Bali: A Collection of Local Wisdom Folktales” with the slogan “Getting to Know Culture, Instilling Goodness, and Understanding the Story’s Content”; and (3) the content expert validation scored 72 with a 90% validity rate, falling into the “highly valid” category. Meanwhile, the media expert validation yielded a score of 74 with a percentage of 92.5%, which also falls into the “highly valid” category. Although there were several suggestions for improving the product, overall, the flipbook was deemed suitable for use in teaching critical reading to sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 4 Antiga Kelod.
