Abstract

The quality of Arabic speaking skills among students tends to be low. This quality hurts their effective communication skills. This problem needs to be addressed because it hinders the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Arabic is essential for establishing effective communication in the global world. This study explores in depth the Arabic language learning process of Hayfa Academy from the perspective of cybernetic theory and its contribution to the achievement of SDG 4. With a qualitative method and case study approach, this study collected data through interviews, distributing questionnaires, and observations. Data that has been obtained is then analyzed using collecting data, direct interpretation, forming patterns, and naturalistic generalization as a conclusion. The results of this study reveal that Hayfa Academy uses cybernetic theory in its learning process, namely giving attention to internal and external conditions of students. Hayfa Academy's Arabic language learning process also has a positive impact on the achievement of SDG 4. Hayfa Academy has implemented the Arabic language learning process by paying attention to the achievement of SDG 4, especially point 4, namely student skills and quality education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Arabic language textbook for Grade 1 of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, published by the Directorate of KSKK, Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, and to identify the characteristics of Arabic language task design from the perspective of didactic anthropology theory, specifically praxeology. The research method employed in this study is descriptive qualitative, utilizing a literature research design. Data collection techniques include both primary and secondary sources. Primary sources consist of the Arabic language textbook for Grade 1 published by the Directorate of KSKK, while secondary sources encompass relevant books and journals. Data analysis employs qualitative methods, which include data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the first part of the task design (T1) could not be analyzed using praxeology, as it did not incorporate specific techniques. Furthermore, the types of tasks (T2-T6) have not effectively constructed the theory of students' ability to communicate in Arabic, as the overall task presentations rely heavily on teacher direction. Additionally, obstacles to student learning were identified, including ontogenic and didactic challenges.

Abstract

Lecturers are required to understand the curriculum rules and course structure in order to get an integrative concept. The management of Arabic learning in the classroom becomes a place for the realization of the curriculum and learning plans that have been prepared. This study aims to review the approach to learning Arabic, classroom management in Arabic learning, challenges of classroom management, and improvement of classroom management problems in Arabic learning. The results of the study indicate that classroom management in learning Arabic as a foreign language is very dynamic and complex. This can be seen from the many factors involved, both from lecturers, students, and curriculum. Lecturer initiative in conducting research related to learning management is needed to improve the quality of the lecturers themselves and the quality of learning that will be developed. The manager must continue to develop the competence of lecturers in terms of education and professionalism to overcome errors in managing classroom behavior in teaching Arabic.

Abstract

Abu al-‘Atahiyah was famous for his ascetical poetry, but the researcher found that in Abu al-‘Atahiyah’s anthology, not all of his poems go with the ascetical theme’s only. Rather, there are also life values, such as social values that establish other human foundations that spread bonds of mercy, love, tolerance, kindness, cooperation, observance of conscience, fear of God and other meanings. The parameters of the human formulation of society are defined in the Islamic conception. The theory used in this research is the theory of life values by Noeng Muhadjir. The approach used in this research is the pragmatic approach. This approach prove that a literature work is a tool to achieve the aims of the creator of literature works, in addition to pleasure or entertainment also for the sake of enlightenment and education. This research found there are sixteen social values, and these social values show that Abu al-‘Atahiyah, who is known as a religious poet, is also a poet who pays attention to social life.

Abstract

This research examines Face-Threatening Acts (FTAs) in Abu Ubaidah's speech on Al Jazeera's YouTube channel within the context of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Unlike previous studies focused on Western political discourse, this research uncovers distinct face management patterns within Arab-Islamic political communication broadcast globally. Using a qualitative approach with pragmatic discourse analysis, the research analyzes Abu Ubaidah's speech on the Gaza conflict on April 23, 2024. Data collection involved indirect observation through watching and transcribing the speech video, complemented by literature review. The analysis combines Brown and Levinson's politeness model with Miles and Huberman's data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing framework. The findings reveal Abu Ubaidah's strategic use of FTAs for delegitimizing adversaries, constructing resistance identity, and fostering solidarity, with 23 FTAs targeting positive face and 19 targeting negative face. The novelty of this research lies in its focus on the interaction between FTAs and the social context as markers of cultural-religious identity in Arab political discourse during conflicts, and providing new insights into how FTAs is employed to achieve communicative and ideological goals in non-Western contexts. This research recommends further exploring communication strategies in similar conflicts through various linguistic approaches.

Abstract

Arabic language learning in minority Muslim communities, such as in Thailand, faces significant challenges, including the limited use of Arabic in daily life and less innovative teaching methods. One approach considered effective in increasing students' interest and understanding is Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL), which connects learning with students' real-life experiences. This study aims to explore the implementation of the CTL model in Arabic language learning at Thamavitya Mulniti School, Thailand, and identify the challenges faced in its application. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis involving teachers, students, and the school's curriculum. Data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman's model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the implementation of CTL in this school has covered almost all key components of the model, such as constructivism, inquiry, questioning, modelling, reflection, and authentic assessment. However, there are still obstacles in the application of the learning community component, which hinders Arabic language interaction among students. This study recommends optimizing the learning community aspect, utilizing technology-based learning media, and improving facilities to support the successful implementation of CTL.

Abstract

Arabic language learning in schools tends to focus on teaching from the teacher, so this reduces the potential for students to actively participate and engage in discussions that can deepen their understanding of the material being taught. This study aims to see an increase in the mastery of Arabic vocabulary of class X high school students. This study used an experimental quantitative approach with Cluster sampling technique. Data were collected through observation and test. Data presentation was done by validity test, normality test, homogeneity test, t-test, and n-gain test. The experimental class posttest n-gain results showed a value of 70.4% which was in the moderately effective category or moderate criteria. So it can be concluded that the use of role play models in Arabic language learning can improve mastery of Arabic vocabulary. For future research, it is suggested that researchers develop more objective evaluation methods, as well as design role plays that are more inclusive and consider students' emotional comfort. In addition, allocating time effectively and ensuring equal participation can increase the effectiveness of this method in learning.

Abstract

In Arabic language learning, a pedagogically effective approach is required, one that not only incorporates technical proficiency but also engages students' emotional and cognitive domains to enhance vocabulary acquisition more optimally. This study examines the singing method based on Roger W. Sperry's theory that involves the functions of the right and left brain, potentially increasing vocabulary acquisition. The study used a one group pretest-posttest experimental design with two classes at SMP Muhammadiyah 35 Jakarta. Data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, paired sample tests, independent sample tests, and N-Gain scores to measure the effectiveness of the singing method. The findings indicated that the implementation of the singing method led to a significant improvement in students' vocabulary mastery with the N-Gain score of the experimental class in the medium category (0.6034) and the control class in the low category (0.3073). This result shows that student emotions and cognitive abilities can both be stimulated by this strategy at the same time. In order to improve comfort, emotional involvement, and overall vocabulary acquisition effectiveness, teachers are advised to use song in language teaching.

Abstract

The advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has revolutionized translation practices, including the translation of literary texts rich in cultural nuances and stylistic features. This research examines the accuracy and representation of satire in the machine translation of the Arabic short story Juha and the Wooden Donkey by Shaqi Hasan using ChatGPT. The objectives of the research are first, to assess translation accuracy based on Nababan’s evaluation theory and second, to identify the types of satire (Horatian, Juvenalian, and Menippean) in the source text and their preservation in the translation. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques on both the source text and its translation, then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model. Findings reveal that out of 26 excerpts, 22 (88%) were accurate, 2 fairly accurate, and 2 inaccurate. Ten excerpts were identified as Horatian satire, seven as Juvenalian, and eight as Menippean. These results show that while AI can produce structurally and semantically accurate translations, it still struggles with irony, implicit meaning, and cultural depth. This study emphasizes the human translator’s role in preserving meaning and aesthetics and urges critical evaluation of AI in literary translation.

Abstract

When reading a verse, students frequently lose sight of its meaning or go to a similar verse. A contributing factor to this is a lack of proficiency in Arabic, particularly in reading. The purpose of this study is to determine how reading skills instruction at Tahfidz Islamic Boarding School Darul Qur'an Deli Serdang contributes to students' memorization of the Qur'an based on their actual experiences. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using observation, documentation, and interviewing as data collecting technique. The results showed that the contribution of learning reading skills in memorizing the Qur'an is in five aspects. First, improving reading accuracy. Second, improving understanding of meaning. Third, improving verse visualization. Fourth, increasing the speed of memorization. Fifth, improving the quality of student memorization. On that basis, learning reading skills has an important role in supporting the success of memorization. Based on these findings, it is recommended that reading skills learning be linked with the Qur'anic memory program to improve the effectiveness and comprehensiveness of the memorizing process.
