Abstract

Clearing is a vital process in microscopy, aimed at enhancing the transparency of tissue preparations for clearer observation of insect structures. Despite its effectiveness, Toluene poses safety concerns due to its explosive nature. Therefore, clove oil (Syzygium aromaticum) has been explored as a safer alternative. This study evaluates the quality of permanent preparations of Pediculus humanus capitis using both toluene and clove oil. Comparative tests were conducted, treating adult head lice specimens with each solvent for three repetitions. Permanent preparations were assessed for clarity, color quality, and morphological integrity. Results indicate a significant difference in quality between the two methods. Toluene yielded mainly poor-quality preparations, while clove oil resulted in a higher proportion of preparations of good quality. The Mann-Whitney test confirmed the significance of this difference (p = 0.002). This study highlights the efficacy of clove oil as a safer alternative to toluene in the clearing process, contributing to entomological practices and chemical safety.

Abstract

Oxidative stress known as the key characteristics of Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) and preeclampsia, this condition occur due to the accumulation of ROS and an imbalance of the ROS and the endogene antioxidant at the early stage of pregnancy. Many studies showed that Ginger contains antioxidants which potentials to reduce the oxidative stress state. The aim of this systematic review was to explore the potential antioxidant content of ginger to reduce oxidative stress in pregnant women with preeclampsia and IUGR. 19 articles was obtained through the Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct search engines using pregnancy, stress oxidative, IUGR, Preeclampsia and ginger as the keywords and five articles was chosen which were suitable with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The articles was analyzed using PICO. The results of the analysis show that the five articles have a level of evidence II B with experimental methods and can answer problems. Analysis of the five articles found that ginger contains antioxidants, especially gingerols and flavonoids which have the potential to overcome oxidative stress in pregnant women with preeclampsia and IUGR. The analysis of the seven articles indicates that ginger contains antioxidants, particularly gingerol and flavonoids, which have the potential to address oxidative stress in pregnant women with preeclampsia and IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction). Ginger could be a solution to address or prevent preeclampsia and IUGR, which are characterized by oxidative stress.

Abstract

Fear of giving birth due to lack of knowledge causes a decrease in primigravida mothers' confidence in their ability to undergo childbirth. Decreased self-efficacy in childbirth can cause birth complications such as prolonged labor, fatigue and weakness in the mother, which results in the mother's failure to undergo a natural birth. Antenatal education is an appropriate alternative to increase mothers' knowledge of the birth process. The aim of the research was to examine the effectiveness of antenatal education in reducing fear of childbirth and increasing childbirth self-efficacy in primiparous mothers. The structure of this research is a detailed analysis using the PRISMA flow diagram. Researchers applied the PICO method and searched for articles in English published between 2018 and 2023. Some of the databases used included Proquest, PUBMED, Sage Journal, Springer Link, Science Direct, EBSCO, Plos One and Taylor & Francis. Article quality assessment using JBI Critical Appraisal Tools for RCT. Seven articles were identified and analyzed, all articles used a Randomized Controlled Trial design. The research sample numbered 56 to 182, consisting of primiparas in the age range 18-32 years with a gestational age of <34 weeks and was conducted in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran and China. From the literature search, in general it can be concluded that antenatal education provided to primiparous mothers is effective in reducing fear of childbirth and increasing self-efficacy in childbirth.

Abstract

Early detection of Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD) in newborns is crucial to the success of treatment. This underlies the need for pulse oximetry screening as the basis for establishing the diagnosis of CCHD that is not recognized on physical examination. This study aimed to analyze the accuracy of pulse oximetry as a CCHD screening method in newborns. The research method was literature review, data is obtained from the PubMed database with the keywords Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD), Newborn, Screening. The inclusion criteria are that the article is published in 2018-2023, discussing the accuracy of pulse oximetry screening, speaking English, and observational analysis research design. Articles according to the criteria were obtained 80 articles. After going through the selection process, 15 articles were selected. An analysis of 15 articles concluded that pulse oximetry has a high accuracy in assisting in the establishment of the diagnosis of CCHD, indicating the need to include it in routine screening procedures for newborns. However, it must be carried out according to regular procedures, by competent health workers, equipped with adequate facilities and it is necessary to educate prospective parents about CCHD screening during pregnancy to anticipate refusal to undergo treatment if abnormalities are found in the results of pulse oximetry.

Abstract

This study assessed the impact of tamarind leaf tea on HOMA-IR and HOMA-β levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Thirty-two patients aged 20-50 years from Sungai Ambawang District Health Center, who were not using any DM medication, participated. They were divided into control (KN) and treatment (KP) groups, with KP receiving a tamarind leaf tea infusion for 7 days. HOMA-IR and HOMA-β levels were calculated using standardized formulas based on fasting insulin and glucose levels. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test revealed a significant decrease in HOMA-IR levels in the KP group (p<0.05), while no significant change was observed in the KN group. Although no significant difference in HOMA-β levels was found between the two groups, the KP group showed a notable increase by 4. These findings suggest that a 7-day tamarind leaf tea infusion effectively reduced HOMA-IR levels in patients with type 2 DM, although it did not significantly affect HOMA-β levels. This study highlights the potential of tamarind leaf tea as a complementary approach for managing insulin resistance in Type 2 DM patients. Further research is needed to explore the long-term effects and mechanisms of action for improving β-cell function. The conclusion of this study is that steeping tamarind leaves for seven days can reduce HOMA-I levels and slightly increase HOMA-β levels in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Abstract

During the first 6 month period, newborns who are exclusively breastfed consume solely breast milk and abstain from any other form of nourishment, such as food or liquids, including water. The government Indonesia has pledged to attain a target proportion of exclusive breastfeeding, with a goal of reaching up to 80%. The X Community Health Centre in Malang City achieved a relatively low level of exclusive breastfeeding coverage in 2022, with only 51.18%. This falls far short of the established target. Internal variables and the mother's opinion of the involvement of health personnel are influential in determining exclusive breastfeeding. The aims of this research were to analyses the influence of internal factors and maternal perspectives on the role of healthcare providers in promoting exclusive breastfeeding. This cross-sectional study was conducted in January-March 2024 at the X Health Centre Working Area in Malang City. The study utilized observational analytics. The study's sample consisted of one hundred moms with children older than six months. Chi-square test yields identify there wasn't significant association between employment also having multiple children (p-value>0.05). However, various factors related to exclusive breastfeeding, like as age, education, family support, and mother's intellectual and perception about the role of health workers, were found to be significantly associated (p-value <0.05). The multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression revealed that family support has a significant impact on exclusive breastfeeding. The p-value of 0.006 and an odds ratio of 26,595 indicate that family support increased the likelihood of exclusive breastfeeding by 26-fold.

Abstract

Anemia is a nutritional deficiency problem that is prone to be experienced by adolescent girls. Anemia can be influenced by iron intake from food sources and other factors such as coffee consumption habits. The aim of this research was to analyze the relationship between coffee consumption habits and iron sufficiency levels with anemia in adolescent girls at SMAN 1 Manyar Gresik. The research method used was observational with a cross-sectional design. The total population consisted of 487 female students from grades X and XI at SMAN 1 Manyar Gresik. The sample size was 78 individuals selected using proportional random sampling technique. Data on iron sufficiency levels and coffee consumption habits were obtained from filling out the SQ-FFQ questionnaire. Respondents' anemia status data were obtained by measuring hemoglobin levels using a hemoglobinometer (easy touch). Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-square test. This study showed that 23% of respondents had anemia and the results of statistical tests indicated that there was a relationship between the time of coffee consumption (p= 0.005) and the level of iron intake (p=0.003) with anemia. The research concluded that sufficient iron intake and consumption of coffee more than 2 hours before/after meals will reduce the risk of anemia. Therefore, respondents are advised to pay attention to the timing of coffee consumption to avoid inhibiting iron absorption.

Abstract

Health development has increased life expectancy, consequently, the population of menopausal women has increased. Menopause causes problems including dyspareunia. Limited information on dyspareunia makes women worried and afraid when entering menopause period. Education may help them understand changes in their bodies. The research aimed to analyze the effect of quartet card educational media on knowledge, self-efficacy, dyspareunia of menopausal women. This research used pre-test and post-test method with control design. The sampling technique was purposive sampling and the sample was menopausal women experiencing dyspareunia determined through NRS, not having health-related educational background, literate, not senile. The exclusion criteria were menopausal women using anti-depressants, antihistamines, sedatives, progestin or estrogen birth control pills, having hormone therapy, history of sexual abuse, injury or infection in the genital area or urinary tract, and those who met both criteria were 70 people (35 people in each group). The independent variable was quartet card educational media on menopausal dyspareunia, and the dependent variables were knowledge, self-efficacy, dyspareunia. Knowledge was measured using instruments, self-efficacy was measured using GSE, and dyspareunia scale was measured using NRS questionnaire. Quartet card game was conducted twice, two weeks apart, approximately one hour for each session. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon and Mann-Withney test. The test results revealed that quartet card educational media on menopausal dyspareunia increases knowledge and self-efficacy and reduces menopausal dyspareunia significantly, all with p-value= 0.000 < 0.05. The use of menopausal dyspareunia quartet card can overcome dyspareunia and reduce the prevalence of stress in menopausal women.

Abstract

WHO and UNICEF data state that the level of exclusive breastfeeding in the world is below the target of 40%. Breastfeeding self-efficacy was identified as one of the strongest modifiable predictors. This scoping review aimed to analyze the effectiveness of breastfeeding education models to increase breastfeeding self-efficacy and exclusive breastfeeding. The design of this article is a systematic review using the Preferred Reporting Items for Literature Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method. Article searches used electronic databases from Scopus, Science Direct, PubMed and Sage. The keywords in the article search are "Exclusive Breastfeeding", "Breastfeeding Education", and "Self-Efficacy". The inclusion criteria in this literature review were studies that have samples of pregnant women ≥ 30 weeks, normal pregnancies without complications. Criteria for babies to be born at term and have normal weight. The results of the scoping review show that the most effective breastfeeding education and support models are prenatal counselling, integrated breastfeeding education program and breastfeeding education with grandmothers' attention. The main characteristic is education carried out from antenatal to breastfeeding. Education is provided involving family members. Education is carried out in a multicomponent manner through breastfeeding training, home visits and post-natal telephone follow-up. The theoretical framework uses self-efficacy theory. The minimum educational frequency consists of 2-4 sessions with a minimum length of 40 minutes. It is hoped that the results of this review will serve as a guide for designing an effective exclusive breastfeeding education model by applying the five main characteristics to increase breastfeeding self-efficacy and exclusive breastfeeding.
