Abstract

Low student learning outcomes and limited engagement in the learning process have been observed, particularly as some students experience difficulties in understanding the differences and similarities among the characteristics of quadrilaterals. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the Explicit Instruction learning model on student learning outcomes in the topic of comparing the characteristics of quadrilaterals among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 6 Simpang Rimba. A quantitative approach was employed in this study, utilizing a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group. The research involved two classes: class 5C as the experimental group and class 5A as the control group. Data were collected via an essay test comprising 10 questions. The data analysis included tests for normality and homogeneity, as well as hypothesis testing. The results of the Shapiro-Wilk normality test for the experimental class posttest and the control class posttest were 0.192 and 0.100, respectively, indicating that the data were normally distributed as the significance values exceeded 0.05. The Levene homogeneity test produced a p-value of 0.158 for both classes, confirming homogeneity of variance. The independent-samples t-test yielded a p-value of 0.000, which is less than 0.05, indicating that the alternative hypothesis is accepted. These findings demonstrate that the Explicit Instruction learning model has a significant effect on student learning outcomes in the topic of comparing the characteristics of quadrilaterals among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 6 Simpang Rimba.

Abstract

The issues resulting from the underutilization of technology based learning resources in the educational process are the driving force behind this study, which causes the teaching and learning process to be leess interactive and participatory, especially in abstract materials that require sufficient visualization such as the human respiratory system. This study attempts to solve this issue by creating interactive multimedia based on discovery learning that is both useful and valid so that teachers can utilise it in the classroom. The four steps of the 4D development model definition, design, development, and dissemination are used in this study's research and development (R&D) methodology. Thirty fifth-graders from SD Negeri 20 Toboali were the subject of the study. Distribution of questionnaires, observations, and interviews were utilized to gather data. In the meantime, a quantitative descriptive technique was employed for data analysis, which included practical data from the questionnaire distribution results as well as validity data from two media experts and one material expert. The assessment results conducted by material experts showed a percentage of 84% ”very valid”, while the media validator’s assessment showed a percantage of 86% ”very valid”. In the small group and large group trial stages, both produced a percentage of 100% ”very practical”. Based on these resultsThus, interactive multimedia focused on discovery learning about the human respiratory system can be utilised as a teaching tool. Furthermore, the development product has been disseminated through varions means in the from of links on wibsites and publication of articles in scientific journals.

Abstract

This research was motivated by a lack of diverse learning methods and the limited use of media that suit the active, playful nature of first-grade students, which makes learning less enjoyable, especially in addition and subtraction. Also, no games have yet been developed to introduce culture to students. Therefore, there is a need to develop valid, practical modified media based on the traditional game engklek to teach addition and subtraction to first-grade elementary school students. This study used the 4D R&D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The data were collected through interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The analysis of the data involved expert validation and student responses. Based on the analysis, the material expert’s percentage is 92.5% in the “very valid” category. The result of the expert assessment is 85.8% and falls into the “very valid” category. The results of practicality, with small-group trials, are 100% in the "very practical" category, and with large-group trials, 98.5% in the "very practical" category. Therefore, it can be concluded that the modified media for the hopscotch game on addition and subtraction material for grade I elementary school students is very valid and very practical to use.
