The Guided Question Technique (GQT) has recently caught the interest of researchers. Although many studies have explored the effects of GQT on skills like reading and speaking, there are relatively few investigations into its impact on students' writing abilities, specifically in crafting descriptive texts. This paper aims to examine whether the guided question technique (GTQ) can enhance students' writing skills, specifically in composing descriptive texts. To achieve the study's objective, seventy students from SMA Negeri 7 Palu in Indonesia were purposively divided into two groups. One group received treatment from a researcher, while the other did not. The findings demonstrated a notable distinction between the treated and untreated groups. Students who received the treatment performed better in writing descriptive texts than those who did not. The results of this study clearly showed that employing the guided question technique in teaching writing skills was advantageous for intermediate-level students in writing descriptive texts. These findings have implications for teacher and other researchers.

This study aims to determine whether the Task-based Learning (TBL) strategy can improve the speaking skills of 11th-grade students at MAN 2 Palu City. Using quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental design, the study involved 428 students as the population. The sample was selected purposively, with XI MIPA 1 serving as the experimental group and XI MIPA 3 as the control group. The research instrument consisted of pre-tests and post-tests. The results indicate a significant improvement in students' speaking skills after implementing TBL, as the t-value (4.092) exceeded the t-critical value (1.996) at a significance level of 0.05 with df=67. The hypothesis was accepted, confirming that TBL is effective in enhancing students' speaking abilities. Thus, this strategy can be applied as a teaching approach to foster speaking skill development.

This study investigated the effectiveness of Small Group Discussion (SGD) technique in developing English speaking skills among Grade IX students at SMPN 3 Banawa, Indonesia. Through a quasi-experimental design, 49 students were divided into experimental and control groups, focusing on expressions of hope, wishes, and congratulations. The experimental group received SGD treatment over four meetings, while the control group followed conventional teaching methods. Statistical analysis revealed significant improvement in the experimental group’s speaking skills, with mean scores increasing from 38.94 to 71.15. The t-test results (t-counted=3.70462, t-table=2.01174, p<0.05) demonstrated SGD’s effectiveness in enhancing students’ speaking fluency and appropriacy. The findings suggest that SGD creates a supportive learning environment that boosts student confidence and participation in English speaking activities, offering valuable insights for language teaching methodology.

An Android app called Cake is dedicated to teaching English. Another option for teaching speaking English is to use cake applications. Because this program is entirely free, there are a lot of benefits. It is not possible to practice speaking, reading, or even listening abilities with this application. The purpose of this study is to determine whether speaking skills of students in SMP Negeri 1Siniu class IX before and after using the cake application were significantly influenced. Quantitative research is used in this study. With a single group pre- and post-test designs, this research design is pre-experimental. This study was conducted in SMP Negeri 1 Siniu in June 2024. The researcher employed spoken monologues to gauge the students' speaking proficiency in order to gather data. Keywords: Developing speaking skill, Cake Application, Fluency, Appropriacy

This study investigates the distribution and challenges of verb inflection usage among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students at Tadulako University, focusing on regular verb inflection namely the use of suffixes such as -ed, -s, -ing, and -en suffixes as well as irregular verbs such as ablaut, suppletion, and zero modification in tenses and aspects. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, data were collected through tests and questionnaires from 148 third-semester students. The analysis results show that regular verbs, especially the suffix -en, are more challenging for EFL students. Seven factors that influence the use of verb inflection were identified: 1) vocabulary limitations; 2) fear of making mistakes; 3) low motivation; 4) teaching methods and quality of instruction; 5) lack of practice; 6) classroom environment; and 7) peer influence.

Discovering the sustainability of Think-Talk-Write (TTW) instructional strategy in enhancing students’ writing proficiency through pre – experimental design (one group pre-test and posttest) was objective of this research. The population was the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri Tolisu where located in rural area in Celebes-Sulawesi. The sample was the students of XI A, which consisted of 18 students who selected by using a purposive sampling technique. The focuses of this research were on organization, vocabulary, grammar, mechanic and limited in descriptive text. By applying paired samples test, it was found that the Sig. 0.000 is lower than (<) 0.05. It means that the hypothesis is accepted or the TTW strategy is statistically effective in improving writing skill of students of SMA Negeri Tolisu. This research implies that the implementation of TTW strategy can be practically defended as one of strategies in teaching writing in rural areas. It builds up students’ critical thinking in developing and organizing ideas, enriching vocabulary and provoking grammar knowledge.

Aim: The type of research into how the integration of the Southeast Asian Economic Community has influenced language education policy implementation. The students and teachers of Central Sulawesi Province, Eastern Indonesia, were surveyed. The government mandates instruction in both English and Bahasa Indonesia, the national language, and other local languages.Method: Three primary methods were used in the researcher’s qualitative methodology. The three main methods are in-person interviews, in-depth observations, and thorough records. English language learning and study are on the rise, as evidenced by the study’s findings.Findings: The majority of participants in the integration of the Southeast Asian Economic Community think that English should develop into a functional language of communication. Many people in Southeast Asian countries speak Malay, so that language is often suggested as a possible replacement for Lingua Franca. Foreigners coming to Indonesia on business must learn the language spoken there to communicate effectively with locals and be accepted into local society. Kids must learn to speak the language they were raised in at school.Implications/Novel Contribution: Policy decisions about how languages are taught should have positive consequences for students preparing for Southeast Asian Economic Integration.

Reading comprehension is a crucial skill for students, yet many face challenges due to limited vocabulary and ineffective reading strategies. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy in enhancing reading comprehension among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 15 Sigi. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design, the research involved an experimental group receiving QAR-based instruction and a control group following conventional methods. Data were gathered through pre-tests and post-tests and analyzed using SPSS version 22. The results revealed that the experimental group achieved a significantly higher post-test mean score (69.57) compared to the control group (58.83), with an independent sample t-test value of 0.018 (p < 0.05). These findings confirm that the QAR strategy effectively improves reading comprehension by assisting students in categorizing and responding to questions more accurately. The strategy not only enhances comprehension but also fosters critical thinking and increases student engagement during reading activities. Consequently, teachers are encouraged to incorporate the QAR strategy into their reading instruction to promote deeper understanding and improve academic outcomes. By integrating QAR, educators can support students in developing more effective reading strategies, ultimately leading to improved literacy skills and learning success.
