Abstract

Bauxite is the primary raw material for aluminum production, and its mining activities are widespread, including in Indonesia. However, land cover changes caused by bauxite mining can significantly disrupt ecosystem balance. This study aimed to analyze land cover change rehabilitation strategies in response to bauxite mining in Sanggau Regency, Indonesia. Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with an overlay technique, land cover data from 2009, 2015, 2022, and 2024, along with soil quality data, were examined. The findings indicate that between 2009 and 2024, approximately 4,363.52 hectares of land were converted into mining areas, including swamp shrubland (308.67 ha), secondary swamp forest (289.28 ha), plantations (74.01 ha), primary dryland forest (3,318.92 ha), and open land (190.99 ha). Recommended rehabilitation strategies include the application of red mud waste mixed with cattle manure as fertilizer, as well as the use of cocopeat as a topsoil substitute to enhance soil quality.

Abstract

Pengelolaan limbah medis padat di rumah sakit merupakan aspek penting dalam menjaga kesehatan lingkungan dan keselamatan tenaga medis. Unit Instalasi Gawat Darurat sebagai area dengan aktivitas medis yang tinggi berpotensi meyumbang jumlah limbah yang cukup besar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara pengetahuan dan sikap perawat Instalasi Gawat Darurat (IGD) dengan tindakan dalam pengelolaan limbah medis padat di Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah dr. Soedarso Kota Pontianak. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan pendekatan potong lintang (Cross Sectional). Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh perawat yang bekerja di IGD Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah dr. Soedarso Kota Pontianak sebanyak 35 orang yang diambil secara total sampel. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner yang terdiri dari aspek pengetahuan, sikap, dan tindakan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan responden dengan pengetahuan baik yaitu sebesar (74,28%), sikap positif sebesar (85,72%) dan tindakan positif sebesar (71,42%), sedangkan responden yang memiliki pengetahuan tidak baik sebesar (25,72%), sikap negatif sebesar (14,28%) dan tindakan negatif sebesar (28,58%). Berdasarkan uji hubungan analisis chi square didapatkan hubungan yang signifikan pengetahuan dengan tindakan (p: 0,001<0,05). Hasil hubungan sikap dengan tindakan (p: 0,001<0,005) Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan pengetahuan dan sikap positif berperan penting dalam meningkatan tindakan pengelolaan limbah medis padat yang sesuai prosedur. Diharapkan hasil penelitian ini dapat menjadi dasar dalam perencanaan program pelatihan dan penyuluhan tentang pengelolaan limbah medis padat di rumah sakit.

Abstract

Water quality is a key factor in maintaining ecosystem balance, public health, and the sustainability of the agricultural and industrial sectors. In Sambas District, particularly in the Seminis Sub-watershed, water quality degradation has become a crucial issue, driven by illegal gold mining and the expansion of oil palm plantations, which generate hazardous waste, including mercury, as well as industrial wastewater. This study aims to identify water quality characteristics in the Seminis sub-watershed and analyze the influence of various pollutant sources, particularly from illegal gold mining and oil palm plantations. The research method included surface water sampling at four representative points representing variation in pollutant sources: former mining land, the palm oil mill WWTP outlet, the plantation area, and the settlement. Physical (TSS), chemical (pH, BOD, COD, total nitrogen), and heavy metal (mercury) parameters were analyzed in accordance with national standards and government regulations. The results showed that most water quality parameters remained below the class II quality standards, except for BOD and COD at several points, which exceeded the thresholds due to organic pollutant loads from industrial and agricultural waste.

Abstract

Supadio Airport has several drainage channels, including the Parit Keramat Drainage Channel. This channel has experienced narrowing due to household waste accumulation and sedimentation, leading to flooding in 2017 when the airport area was hit by extreme rainfall and high tides. As a result, 12 flight schedules were cancelled, and 36 flights were delayed (Kompas, 2017). To address this issue, an effective drainage system is necessary, especially in the runway, taxiway, and apron areas, to maintain aviation safety and security. The flood condition at Supadio Airport was analyzed using technical calculations and unsteady-flow simulations for a 10-year return period, based on tidal data calibration and instantaneous discharge in HEC-RAS. The drainage network in the study area was modeled based on topographic measurements of the existing channels. The Parit Keramat Channel is approximately 1,400 meters long. The HEC-RAS modeling results for the 10-year return period and tidal conditions show a significant impact on the existing channel condition. Most of the STAs (Stations) on the Parit Keramat Channel experienced flooding, with inundation heights ranging from 0.03 to 0.38 meters.

Abstract

This study presents a systematic environmental assessment of the Raya River Sub-Watershed in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, from 2018 to 2025. It addresses a critical data gap in a region heavily impacted by artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) and oil palm expansion. Establishing the first multi-year physicochemical and sedimentological dataset for this tropical catchment enables the identification of key drivers of ecosystem degradation. An analysis was conducted across nine strategic sampling points, with results indicating significant acidification (pH 4.10), elevated total suspended solids (up to 125 mg/L), and heavy metal concentrations in sediments exceeding international quality standards. Utilising X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy, the study quantified community exposure to Pb (13.0-45.5 ppm), Fe (290.0-642.3 ppm), Sn (16.0-22.8 ppm), and Mn (67.9-233.0 ppm), signalling persistent toxicological risks. This research establishes a link between in-situ pollution monitoring and human health implications by associating ASGM with agricultural runoff and potential bioaccumulation. These findings provide a scientifically robust baseline, essential for informing targeted remediation strategies, including phytoremediation and erosion control, and for offering a framework for evidence-based environmental governance in contaminated tropical watersheds.
